  • We established our workshop in Pécs, a beautiful city in the south of Hungary, back in 2015 on the former site of the Zsolnay art porcelain factory. As of today, over 60 skilled craftspeople are finishing and assembling many of our 1:8 and 1:5 models for Ferrari and Porsche. We hope you enjoy this glimpse behind the scenes of our Pécs workshop.

    I'm the proud owner of a 1:8 scale Amalgam model: Ferrari F2004 San Marino, #37/99
    One of the older models with the Marlboro stickers on too... work of art!
    Even the tyre rubber looks realistic...

    Seriously impressive detailing on a whole other level. Though very *very* much out of my price range, still admire the absolute dedication in craftmanship! Do wonder if Amalgam have or would consider model work for the film industry, it would certainly hold up to scrutiny on camera that's for sure!

      We thank you for your kind words. 🙏 Our artisans do some phenomenal work!
      We have previously done work with the TV and movie industries but usually as a form of set decoration. Naturally, we'd always interested in a new and exciting opportunity!

    Been building scale models for over 40 years. Would love to spend a couple of days in the workshop, building one of the Amalgam masterpieces. Yes they are expensive, but if you look at the time and effort spend on designing the moulds, making the drawings for the photo-etch parts, drawing the artwork for the decals, making lots of tiny pieces with lathes and painting, assembling and finishing the models, you understand where the price comes from. Thank you Amalgam, for turning scale modelling into an art.

    Stunning model. It’s a shame it’s batshit crazy expensive. Sell the kit at an affordable price and I’ll happily build it. I would then buy everything you make.

    That's great and all but why is any 1:8 model more expensive than a brand new Dacia?

    • @AmalgamCollection
      @AmalgamCollection  5 місяців тому

      There are many reasons, but summarised: we are completely different businesses. We make the best model we can with no effort or expense spared; the development of one of our 1:8 scale models can take up to 5000 hours and so, when we set prices for each model, we not only have to cover the costs of that initial development, but the build and much more besides (like acquiring the data, getting the licenses from the relevant manufacturers, building the tooling, etc). We are a low-volume business, as every model of ours is handmade, and we do have to recoup the costs of development, which is not an inexpensive process. Dacia, however, have specialised in the mass production of low value (in car terms at least) vehicles, allowing them to recoup their costs through large volume sales of full size cars.

    Great workshop! Now I better understand. It confused me earlier on to see the rather small and basic UK shop/garage, how it was possible to manufacture enough models out of that. Will think the UK shop more is for prototyping

    • @AmalgamCollection

      Our resin casting does indeed take place in our workshop in China, which we invested in and created specifically for our casting needs. The facility supports our smaller workshop operations in Bristol and Pécs.

      There is a law of diminishing returns when it comes to model-making, so it takes us much more time and investment to make a model each little bit closer to perfection. The development of one of our 1:8 scale models can take up to 5000 hours and so, when we set prices for each model, we not only have to cover the costs of that initial development, but the build and much more besides (like acquiring the data, getting the licenses from the relevant manufacturers, building the tooling, etc). We understand this isn't always achievable for many customers but this is why we have released models at smaller scales and introduce new concepts such as our new miniature sculptures in recent years.

    Very beautiful. But it’s all plastic junk. Way way too much moola for a model made of plastic. I’ll stick with Exoto. They haven’t built anything in over a decade but it’s still better than this

    • @AmalgamCollection
      @AmalgamCollection  Рік тому +58

      You are most certainly entitled to your opinion, but we do take offense to word junk - we've always felt that resin offers superior finesse and refined detail, and delivering refined detail is absolutely the mission we at Amalgam are on.

      I own quite a few scale models from Exoto Tifosi, sadly there is no Amalgam product in my collection.
      On a personal level I appreciate the efforts made by the craftsmen that have spent hours assembling these fine models, of course ones levels of discernment may deem these models to be inferior, I find them to be above par, testament to the prices that people are prepared to pay for them.
