Mooer are the champions of clones but they absolutely nailed this one - I actually prefer it to the Boss original. As you pointed out, it's a bit tighter, and I like having the mod switch. Great playing too, your chordal stuff is lovely.
There is difference but its so subtle and people tend to forget the psychoacoustics. Once in the mix i think that most of the time they will sound exactly the same however durability is another thing to consider when it comes to cheap pedals.
Good point. I bought the Mooer quite a while ago, and it just sounds exactly like a bd-2, but I don't gig anymore. If I did, I think I would have gone for the Boss. But only because of it's reliability. Tone for tone, there's no significant difference imo. (aside from the usual pot value deviations. Just for fun, try comparing two BD-2's side by side, or any other pedal for that matter, and you'd be surprised)
I think it's can be a great demonstration on how smd components actually affects the tone (cause they are, no matter what pedal manufacturers says to mislead and justify their production choice in a reason it is much cost effective for them). As similar in overall tone shape they are, as there is an obvious difference in feel, openness and naturalness in final sounding. I bet if it can translate that much through youtube record, it even more in real life.
update: had to order 2 MOOER Blues Moods: it really sounds spongy n dynamic!! gonna place it after my dynamic 68 Pedals Inca Kola and listen to the result!!😎😎
P.S. I had the Boss Blues Driver once: very touchy when clean, but didnt like the drive at all..., I have great expectations about the MOOER: less mushy when driven up, and the Fat option is still there!😎😎
JUST TRIED the Moody Blues: a great tone enhancer with good dynamics both drive and tone down! just like my Boss OD-3 is a Jazz pedal drive and tone down...the Mood is very close to Boss Blues Driver as far as I can recall, half the price!!🤣🤣VERY SATISFIED!
Good comparison video and nice playing. There's also the Wazacraft version of the Boss BD-2 and a few well known modded versions, i.e. Keeley, Analogman, Moddest Mike, Monte Allums etc... These modded versions offer some cool variations on this cool pedal. There's also the Keeley Phat Mod pedal which is a Blues Driver circuit with his mods to this pedal from back in his modding days.
They sound so similar it makes it hard to justify Waza and Keeley higher prices. The main differences between the two under review are brand and shape as the price gap is small.
Yip, think you're spot on about the Boss being bass heavier, spongier, saggier and the Mooer being tighter. Think the Mooer is based on a Keeley modded BD-2, and it's pretty close to that. I'd only prefer the the original Boss on edge of breakup to mild crunch. At anything higher the Boss bass blows out a bit too much. There's the TC Cinders too, not sure what the difference is, but I kind of prefer it's enclosure to these tiny fiddly mini-pedals.
Soo happy with the Boss Blues Driver! its like...hmm a bluesy drive pedal! ( ha ha...): very nice EQ, no big midhump, even clean its marvellous and very natural tone enhancer! PEOPLE: the Mooer Blues Mood is a bit expensive compared to the Aroma Tomsline Bluesy, which I have two of, so if youre on a tight budget, try the Tomsline Bluesy! ( theres a wonderful demo here in UA-cam by mr Eric Leung!!) if you want jazz, head for the mighty Boss OD-3! ( a cheap jazzy pedal 25€s is the Dolamo D-8: I call it "little jazz", the Boss OD-3 being the biggy one...) hope this helps, K 😎
@@leonardsrobert still, u play the BD2 WAY more and you're not really taking the time to dial in the same tones + nor are u taking the time to make em sound completely different
@@lundsweden Yep, its the sensitivity Im after, so the MOOER wins by its pricetag and fat/norm switch!! Ive had the Boss, and remember very well its TOUCH, but the pricetag is hi ( I do have the Boss OD-3 always on, its juust jazzy base after my Simble...)... 🤔🤔

It's refreshing to watch a pedal review by someone who can actually play!
I know this video is over two years old, but it's the best comparison video non UA-cam!
Too much honor if you ask me, but thanks very much!
Ok first off, your playing is fuckin amazing! So my compliments and Bravo!! Second, excellent and informative review. Really appreciate it!!
Thanks so much!!
Thanks for this. Been through a bunch of expensive pedals but I always come back to Boss pedals. Mooer sounded good too. And you’re a great player!
Thanks a lot!! It's amazing how good those pedals sound!
Great comparison video 🤘 That's a tough one, they're so close, but i think i prefer the Mooer-that whole series of mini pedals are great
Thank you to make me discover 90's rock/grunge stuff from M. Landau !
Those are some killer records!!
Man, the Mooer sounds really good, watch out Boss!

Damn.. you can play man! Really enjoyed your playing. I have the BD-2 as well. Great, great pedal.
Nice video thanks!
Nice comparison! I liked that Michael Landau riff at the end too :)
You know it! Landau is a GOAT!

Thanks! Yeah, I have used the Cinders too. That's a really nice pedal as well!
The blues driver low end is a little more full, balanced. I.M.O.The Mooer turned up is a little more balanced. I like your Stratocaster tone best!
True! Thanks man!
Mooer sounds good but in comparison with BD-2 it sound more flat, "cheaper"
Boss by a mile.
Congratulations for Mooer for creat this incrible pedal. Is a Clone? Yes, but, this OK, hight? Very very close tone for original.
Great playin! I think I stick to my Tomsline Bluesy&Tube Pusher, from the Boss Ive got the OD-3...😎
just caved in n ordered a Boss Blues Driver, theyre getting scarce, last one in the shop( worldwide component deficiency!)😎

The OD3 is the only Boss drive that I care about.
u had the mooer on fat... that's not a fair comparison
I switch it over to the normal mode later in the video!
@@leonardsrobert still, u play the BD2 WAY more and you're not really taking the time to dial in the same tones + nor are u taking the time to make em sound completely different
You read a lot faster than I do.
The mooer sounds just as good but probably won’t last as long and will depreciate in value
Я извиняюсь, а что вам мешает крутануть ручку гейна на усилителе ? Зачем эти педали вообще ?
Очень жаль что нет примеров звучания в миксе
Причем звук будет гораздо более отличный чем от этих педалей
Blues MOOd is not worth 10 cents. BOSS FOREVERS!
Dumb comment
Actually worth every cent of $70
Your a bias fool... open your eyes and you will benefit from what Mooer offers.
