- Getting drunk or high and then driving is a bad idea. Impaired driving is a dead end that can have serious consequences, for the driver, the victims and the families and friends of both. Driving impaired does not just affect the person who made the poor choice to drive. It affects may people in horrible ways. Impaired driving has a big impact.
Some years ago I was driving a truck full of beef from Omaha to Baltimore. About 2am I stopped in a rest area to work on my books for a while. While parked a car full of drunk teenagers came flying into the rest area and I was rear ended at about 75 mph. My 80,000 lb truck got pushed several feet through the parking lot. The scene at the back of the trailer was horrifying, it still haunts me what I saw in that car.
Probably could have added their carcasses to your haul.
Great program! You all are so brave to tell your story!
I was hit by a drunk driver in 1976, I have had to live with that night for the past 36 years, I lost my left leg that night. I ask you, do you think I feel the punishment these people received was enough? and to anyone who thinks driving high is ok. let me ask you this, if you hit someone when driving high do you think that person would think it is ok to drive high. For you it may suck not taking your car home one night. for people like me it means pain for the rest of my life.
Similarly with me.
the punishment is never enough
So sorry about your injury. I’ve been upset that my new car was totaled by a drunk driver, but I was uninjured. I feel ashamed that I was upset about a car, when you lost your leg. You’ve changed my attitude, thank you for that.
@@TheVertigoalley - Thank you for the comment and your concern , but you took a loss just as I did, It's the drunk drivers that should be ashamed, If you are like me you will never let anyone drive drunk if you are able to prevent it .......for the rest of your life............Dave
"Drunk driving is a dead end" is good turn of phrase. Hopefully, peers become more vocal about someone they love who about to drive drunk and make it "not cool" to do so.
I'm so glad I quit drinking!
6 months for me!
As you may already know, I'm watching this on UA-cam, as well as many other videos regarding alcohol and/or drugs, both prescription & street drugs. I'm wondering if any or all such videos are being or have been viewed on television? If the answer might be no, they need to be. I think being on UA-cam, some might just pass the video by but maybe, just maybe, if what someone is watching is interrupted with a video such as this on national television, perhaps then those people making poor decisions while under the influence might finally get their 'wake up call', no?
Thank you so much for doing these videos. They are a learning/teaching experience for sure. Keep them coming, please.
My brother and his fiancée was hit head-on buy a stinking drunk. Thankfully they received minor injuries. A few years later I became a police officer and I'll admit I was out to get drunk drivers and I was good. This caused me a few police officer jobs as a result because this was an era of giving the drunks a ride home. I probably made a hundred DWI arrests, again back in the early 70's drivers were not considered drunk until they reached the limit of 0 .10% most jurisdictions wouldn't prosecute unless they were 0 .12% I will always support police officers and their DWI arrests.
Biwabik223 Thank you for your service. I lost a cousin to a drunk driver so I support DWI arrests too.
I think it's 0.08 in most jurisdictions now.
Thank you for your service.
I'm glad that this video has brought to life the effects of of impaired driving. It's never a good idea to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, as it will not be just your life that will be ruined. Impaired driving can cause an accident that will affect multiple people, and all of their families if the accident is fatal. Financially as well as medically, people can have a rough time if they drive drunk. Good for these people owning up to what they did.
Well said. I was severely injured as a result of a drunk driving accident which left me in pain for the rest of my life. Yes it affected me for life. A life sentence. These drivers need to be in jail for a long time.
They need to put these on tv for everyone to watch
We appreciate your comments, but request that you please refrain from swearing. It is inappropriate and does not add to the conversation. Any posts with swearing in them will be removed. Thank you.
Great Video I use it as an example in my class in Florida for DUI Offenders. Thank you for your work! I am a retired/Injured Florida State Law Enforcement Officer. I made many DUI & BUI arrests in my day. It never changes. Keep up the good fight!
There is no shame in being scared by what can really occur. But it isn't really fear as much as a healthy respect for the potential for painful consequences. And of course, there isn't really a positive side to driving impaired.
I was severely injured as a result of a drunk driving accident which left me having to deal with pain for the rest of my life daily, on strong pain killers in order for me to function at all. Please pay attention to the experiences of those of us whose lives have been drastically changed by drunk/impaired driving. We share our experiences in order to teach people not to drink and drive or ride with someone who has had a drink and is driving. I was 13 years old at the time of the accident I was in. I'm now 57, having dealt with the effects of the accident I was in now for 44 rears. I got a life sentence of pain and disability. There is no punishment severe enough to make restitution for this. Be smart, make better decisions in life, stay off the road even if you've had 1 drink. 1 drink is not a reason to drive. You don't react the same even with 1 drink then you do when sober. 😳😡😨😵😬😣😲
wow, not many stories show this from all sides. well done to everyone who had the strength to talk. even those who drove drunk. they knew they f***ed up and all seem remorseful, even though they have no sympathy from me. my heart goes out to the families of the victims and especially to the survivors who have to get used to their new norm due to someone else's selfishness
love how the guy with 4 dui says one night of drinking
My heart is breaking for these families.
This is a great video and I thank the men and women of law Enforcement that put this together as well as those arrested who are responsible enough to try to stop others. And my condolences to the victims and thank them for also sharing. I use this video in a DUI offender class I teach. I am retired law enforcement myself and also tell two main stories where i saw people who died as of the result of DUI's. Sad but we are losing the battle in this area everyday across America..........Florida... "DRUNK DRIVING IS DEFINITELY A DEAD END!"...Thank you again!
At least they realize the problem.
Thank God for recovery
Heartbreaking 💔 😢
All the grief , and so preventable!
He was referring to one of those nights specifically.
I don't know about Dui but one of these convict definitely fell from the ugly tree, can you spot him???
Every drinker needs to watch this video !
I want to say one last thing, I love to party as much as anyone and I drove home drunk many times before I was hit. but let me warn you of a very real fact. if you hurt someone DUI you are going to have to live with it as well as the person you hit. and something you won't hear on a video like this, it took me 10 years to let go of the anger for the woman who hit me and if I had been able to find her I would have taken her leg without giving it a second thought (with chainsaw!!!!)
Yikes
but ur no better u drive drunk
@@jiogcyihsugyiocjfdoivhphvw6821 I said I drove drunk "before" I was hit, that was 46 years ago, I was 17 years old (and stupid) I have never driven drunk since then. as a matter of fact I quit drinking alcohol 16 years ago.
I am so glad I don’t drink alcohol anymore. That shit will ruin your life if you have no control over it .
Hello my name is Tracey and my 16year old sister was killed by a drunk driver, right infront of my sister and their best friend who were only 14yrs old at the time.
You drunk drivers just don't realise the devastation you can cause a family when someone they love has been stripped out of their lives through no fault of their own.
My sisters killer got a $100 fine and 12 months loss of license.
Now you tell me how drinking and driving has ruined YOUR LIVES.
Your still here still breathing still living your lives, you may have lost yr license, but you know what my sister LOST HER LIFE.
My family lost a Daughter, Granddaughter, Sister, Friend.
I have no absolutely zero sympathy for you.
I can't.
My anger has lasted 50years, and I STILL LOATH DRINK DRIVERS.
Yet my police officer wouldn’t let me take either and arrested me. I got off because obviously they messed up. Nor was I drinking either so the whole thing was just messed up.
You are NOT required to take field sobriety tests. States violate your 4th Amendment rights by imposing "implied consent laws". Anything you say and/or give police WILL be used against you. Invoke your 5th and 6th Amendment rights. (Remain silent and ask for your lawyer)
I'm not saying that drunk driving is not dangerous. If you're caught, you pay the price. Please don't drink and drive! The life you save just might be your own.......
what brand of child seat saved that woman.. .that"s the one for my grandkids!
Jail can happen to anybody at any time. Let's be careful out there. Cheers!
That was my job, to drive people who are planning on drinking before they started, I don't drink, I refuse to hurt or kill anybody over a selfish lust.
Buddy, I stopped drinking alcohol six weeks ago as I suffered a stroke as a baby, matured late and want to live long. Stay strong and sober.
@@pauljordan4452 I am so sorry you had a stroke, but I'm glad you are sober.
I hope you live long, and stay healthy, God bless you, and give you strength.
I’m so sorry but I saw the thumbnail and thought, “oh my gosh is that the uncle from Napoleon Dynamite?”
Documentary? Or Scare Video?
A video to educate the public about the consequences that can happen when you drive drunk or high or ride with someone who has had a drink and is driving. Trying to save lives. If it is scary then it is getting the point across. 🙂
It’s a REAL video. What really happens. I was hit by a drunk driver also.
😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
anyone else in A+ driving school zoom rn
Wow!!!!
WHY?.its murder.they deserve life if the kill another driver/family if not they need to sit in jail no bailing out, time to sit for 30days sober, its easy to bail out and carry on drinking, shame on them
The guy losing his ability to walk, all because of a drunk driver !
Don't drink and drive. Enjoy psychedelics and go for a walk instead. Psychedelics. Kid tested, Mother approved! 😉👍🍄
Alcohol should be illegal then again there would be no revenue but it would also benefit judicial economy if it was outlawed
All those DWI convictions. I wonder who their lawyers were. Those felony cases are nasty.
So are the results of drinking and driving for those of us on the receiving end of their actions.
😢
After watching Red Asphalt, Signal 30 and several other real life drivers education films, Alaska State Troopers video seems like a video made for a first grader.
People are stupid. They don’t care about anyone or anything!!
so everyone ever is stupid? including those who LOST SOMEONE?
drunkard
Drinking and driving is badass I feel like drunk crushers give drunk drivers a bad rep
r u from mars?
@@jiogcyihsugyiocjfdoivhphvw6821 No, he's just a "troll" from earth. cause even stupid people wouldn't make a comment like that
The worst part of most of these stories is the courts let these people right back out to hurt or kill someone else. I am outraged with any judge who doesn't take these seriously. I watched a judge in Clinton County Michigan tell a man who was arrested 11 times for owi " I believe you finally learned your lesson" and the asshole got probation.
