I agree that the Bret Hart character should have been upset. In other sports, the participants know there will be an overtime. If they were going to let them continue they shouldnt have stopped the match. In story, Bret has shawn in a sharpshooter with no way out
@@mr.franco7259 Bret Hart said afterwards, "If they were gonna do in that way, why even ring the bell?" That's the way I thought too. If the match kept going, Bret wouldn't have relinquished the Sharpshooter, and Shawn would've eventually either submitted or passed out and been declared the loser.

The iron man match was the worst idea! Especially since there were no falls and they went into OT very long and drawn out and hurt the card having only 6 matches! It would have been better if there were a couple falls and they ended tied. Then did OT.
That would have been better. It basically felt like a regular WWF Championship match with a 1 hr time limit and there was no winner decide. I think if Ultimate Warrior hadnt return this would have been a medicore mania. I still enjoyed the match myself.
The story was Shawn climbing the mountain in 3 stages. Royal Rumble, Defending his spot against Owen, then the final leg of enduring and fending off Bret for an hour in order to pin Bret and obtain the WWF Title. That's the story.
@@Truthkiller13 yes, and you made a comment in response to that quote, to which I replied. Not sure why you're changing the subject to Shawn and his rig or anything else at all. You wondered if Vince tested Owen's rig. I replied that he would if asked to... that's it. You're question was answered.
I always thought the Ultimate Warrior started the attitude era following his interview with Vince on the first Raw after Wrestlemania 12. When Goldust interrupted.
"Whatever you're into, I don't give a SHIT! You want an action packed adventure, I got a full length movie for you! Me kicking your ass from beginning to end!"
I always though had Warrior made it to 97-98, he would have been awesome, simply because of this interview. He had an 18 month contract which would have taken him to Survivor Series 97.
Huckster VS Nacho was BS, not being in the ring, instead just being some pre-tape on the small screen. I was actually hyped for the Nacho/Huckster match more than most others on the card. It was such a let-down when it finally took place.
A lot of Shawns shit is over rated. This match with Bret was. People were leaving out of boredom. The Shawn vs Flair match at WM 24 was overrated as well.
@Vincent Verona I was a teenager at the time and a huge Bret Hart fan, and for me there wasn't enough heat to become invested in the match in the first place. I've always said the "boyhood dream" story was lame and I NEVER bought Shawn as a babyface, ever. The match was technically excellent, and I will give that to Bret and Shawn, but it just never built to any excitement until the Sharpshooter at the very end. Also, I thought Bret should've slapped the Sharpshooter on for longer at the end for more suspense before the bell. Maybe have the last 4-5 minutes of Shawn constantly struggling in and out of the hold before the bell finally rang.
@Vincent Verona Same age. I liked both, but was glad HBK won. Even then I noticed Bret was heading heal, or was playing the heal, especially with his reaction to losing.
@@Dizzy1980 I hated Shawn Michaels that was all the heat I needed to be invested in the match. Honestly before WM 12 I can’t think of too many heels I actually hated. I just liked wrestling and liked who I thought was cool. I feel like most Bret fans hated Shawn and most Shawn fans hated Bret or at least thought one or the other was over rated. Maybe their wasn’t enough interest in either wrestler idk. I know the only heel I ever hated and wanted to see get his ass kicked was Stone Cold, I loved when Bret busted him open and put him in the sharpshooter till he passed out. I also really hated how much Stone Cold screwed over Bret. However everyone else loved him and loved that he was screwing Bret.
I hated it because as a kid who was a massive Bret Hart fan I was pissed off that champions' advantage disappeared at 60:00. He didnt have to beat Shawn, Shawn had to beat him. As an adult it annoys me that Shawn had so much of the match when it was taking place on the mat, and there were so many rest holds it can't hold attention without falls. They'd have had far more creative success doing 25-35 condensing the best bits (the match plays GREAT as highlights) and Shawn catches a superkick for the pin in a straight match.
@@stevepmg9202 Agreed. The end of the match was screwy!! I do agree with it in a storyline sense I think it was dramatic so I give them a pass even tho as a fellow Bret fan I was sore about it. I just feel like they didn't execute the match well, they were so worried about pacing they didn't do anything for the first 30 mins just a headlock. I think they had the right plans do I can't fault them, it just wasn't executed well which is a surprise and a shame. Bret did so well to sell how pissed he was on his way out, I really thought that was legit for years.
@@yourhero34 I don’t think Bret and Shawn ever really had that great of a match at all.. Wm 12 was probably the best though in terms of story and just the drama. I couldn’t watch that match back today but in 1996 as a Bret fan with a brother who was a Shawn fan it was intense. It may have been boring but since we were vested in won it made the match for me. We expected Shawn to win but the sharpshooter with 30 secs left had us thinking we were wrong. For two guys who were the best we never really got that great HBK Bret Hart match. Shawn always wrestled like Bret when they had matches SS 92, WM 12 Shawn was very ground based in both matches and seemed to get the better of Bret on the ground ,which is what we expected from Bret. I always thought Shawn would get the better of Bret with high flying fast paced stuff, and Bret would counter and out wrestle him.

It would have been so awesome, had they had a camera crew when the went to Nevada to see Warrior.
I can only imagine Cornette's facial expressions as Warrior was rambling.

I think people forget that the Arrowhead Pond is a very nice arena in its own right. It was a decent location for Wrestlemania.
First 10mins and its official Bruce is back on the powder
Nothing wrong with that.
Shawn claims the tie at 0 falls, until the end, was his idea.
Also, aside from Judgment Day '00, didn't Orton and Cena, Main Event Bragging Rights '09, in an Iron Man Match?
I could of accepted that if they explained It going into the match I thought Bret had won because Shawn could not best him over 60 mins therefore bret retained his title

Wrestlemania VIII and Survivor Series 1991 next please guys :-)
Bruce wasn't there for those, and he was fired late '91 to late '92.
@@armandomorales0921 Yeah but I'm sure he was tuning in during that time, he wasn't there for the 92 Rumble either but there was still a STW episode on it.

I was at survivor series 91'. Watching Undertaker defeat hogan for the belt I will never forget. Actually got to see 2 of takers title wins live. Much later at Wrestlemania 23 in Ford Field.
@@stevecrawford5619 That must have been an amazing feeling especially if you were a Taker fan as most of us that were Taker fans knew in our hearts it was just another big guy being fed to hogan like ZEUS so we were expecting a typical heel loss result but when Taker hit that 3 count it was a shot heard around the world especially as Hogan was pretty much booked as unbeatable from 1984.
Judgment Day 2000 was main evented by an ironman match
Well said. Was thinking same thing
@53:54 - so you mean to tell me that after all those 'more terrifying than a great white' promos about the Warrior, yall actually wanted him to have a competitive match? Go home, Bruce, you're lying. Or the WWE forgot how they booked their own star. I remember when people were upset that Emma didn't get squashed by Asuka. Emma was more over than Hunter at that time.
Maybe they should have let Diesel be cool BEFORE he’s on his way out the door... instead of wearing a ridiculous Xmas sweater

Bruce shitting on Warrior again. I’m shocked.
Skip to 15:09 to bypass all the bullshit
Been waiting on this thank you
I know they were disappointed with the warrior match but as a fan I would of been shocked if he gave warrior a challenge
Talk about the attention span of the audience yet you have longer matches on RAW&SD than ever before in history because you're not creative enough to fill 2/3 hours. Good job Bruce
Conrad calling Bret vs Shawn the most overrated match in history shows all he likes is AEW garbage high spot trash wrestling. Bret and Shawn told actual STORIES. A lost art form today
Happy Anniversary Brucey Poo.... Ignorance is Bliss....
Terrible decision to make it 0-0 after 60 minutes. I can’t imagine who thought this was a good idea. What they should’ve done was have Bret with an enormous lead (3 to 1 lead) with 15 minutes remaining and Shawn slowly coming back eventually to tying it 3-3 with 2 seconds remaining with a small package. Then you do the overtime finish with Shawn going over. Final score 4 to 3.
Thanks UA-cam for ads EVERY 5 minutes
I guess Conrad forgot about Triple vs a the Rock Iron Man at Judgement day 2000
Iron man was a great match enough said
Boy Connie sounded drunk at times saying the wrong names at times...then calling himself out.

That Bret vs Shawn match was the most boring match I've ever seen. I can't watch the whole thing to this day.
I agree. The later iron man matches are far superior. ROck vs Triple H and Brock vs Angle. Heck even Angle vs Michaels. The reason being that they had falls in them, so you had to guess
Its a one time watch for me too
I think The Iron Match would have been better if it was 30 minutes instead of 60.
Why is Conrad such a mark for John Tenta's singles run in WCW??
Because he's a Lone Shark

Brett seemed to win the belt in small ways and lose it in big ways. They could have done better by him
Conrad: The most overrated match in WM history
Me: WHAT!?
Yeah, Conrad does not like the Iron Man Match.
Actually they’re wrong and Iron Man match did end of pay-per-view when he it was triple H versus the rock in 2000 when the undertaker returned I think that was judgment day
Conrad's a wrestling fan, but for the Iron Man match, he'd rather skip over 99% of the match itself just to see the finish? That makes no sense at all.
Can someone explain the "pronouns, pal" thing to me? I believe I heard Conrad say something about it being a Cornette thing?
I'm curious every time I hear it (which is often with how many of these podcasts I've been listening to).
Bruce entertains the hell out of me. I'm glad to have come across these podcasts, I'd never listened to podcasts before. I'm a rare laugher and these crack me up daily; daily laughing is unheard of for me.

Bret Hart should have kept the title as a tie, he was robbed
It was part of the storyline to set up for when he came back he was taking a break and they weren't sure he was gonna come back but if they did they set it up to continue the story
It's been reported that it was supposed to set up a rematch at Mania 13. But history tells us that stuff happens and smiles get lost before then.

Did Vincent Kennedy McMahon take Bruce's mom to the thunderdome in Vegas room 6969
Is this a april fool's joke a new stww

A lot of Shawns shit is over rated. This match with Bret was. People were leaving out of boredom. The Shawn vs Flair match at WM 24 was overrated as well.
Half-agree. I enjoyed Shawn/Flair. But the Iron Man match was boring as hell, even on fast forward on my VHS.
TOTALLY agree with Conrad. The iron man was a big let down and is the most overrated match ever.
I agree the Iron match was great but I agree it’s also overrated.
I think HBK/Bret's match in Montreal was their best match

@@michaelmorrison6707 no I haven't seen it. I'll check it out
@@yourhero34 bro I highly recommend that. Much better than their 1997 match easily
@@yourhero34 Also their ladder match in 92
@@yourhero34 I don’t think Bret and Shawn ever really had that great of a match at all..
