How to talk to atc and what airline pilots say to air traffic control on ground. Depending on the size of the airport there are different frequencies in use whilst operating on the ground. When the crew arrives in the airplane, the pilot flying performs the preliminary cockpit inspection and listens out the current weather via the ATIS frequency. Automatic terminal information service, or ATIS, is a continuous broadcast of recorded aeronautical information in terminal areas, airports and their surroundings. ATIS broadcasts contain essential information, such as current weather information, active runways, available approaches, and sometimes other information required by the pilots, such as important NOTAMs. Notams. The recording is updated in fixed intervals or when there is a significant change in the information, for example a change in runway.
We contact the first frequency, which usually is Clearance delivery or Ground in order to ask which departure we can expect for our flight. Or, we ask for the departure clearance immediately when able. If there is no clearance delivery frequency displayed on the chart, we will call the Ground frequency. At less busy fields, the clearance delivery is often staffed by the same controller working on the Ground frequency. At some airports clearances will be read over the ground control frequency when it's not busy.
Sometimes there is another frequency like RAMP in Rome which we have to call whenever we are fully ready to depart. The idea behind using a dedicated frequency for this is that it avoids tying up the ground control frequency used for authorizing ground movement on taxiways and such with long clearances and readbacks.

Great Job Michelle...might I add...I think it would be helpful if you first show a flow chart on a white board of the events that need to take place as you talk about each event....Thanks
Great video! Most people don’t realize how many people we have to talk to before we even take off. Sometimes there are up to 10 frequencies we need to talk to. Hope you are having a festive holiday season!
I know very well about ground handling procedures as I worked at the airport for many years. As for communications between pilots and ATC, I have read them a few times in some books but this video explains them much better. Thanks, Michelle!
Love your videos Michelle! Always very informative and nicely explained! Keep it up😊😊.
I LOVE THIS UA-cam CHANNEL. MICHELLE GOORIS KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!
GOOD vídeo. Thanks for share your time and knowledges 💐🌾🌷
Awesome job keep it up you are my inspiration. When I grow up I want to be a pilot. Thank you😁😁
A collegue of mine used to get the attention of Cockpit (from ground) by putting his fingers in his mouth and making a loud whistle. Think how loud that whistle was. Sometimes ground staff "knock" on the nose fuselage (in a point near the intake of the Ground Power Cable) in order to ge the attention of the Cockpit... It is like knocking to a door... This is what you call "new Technologies"... :-)))
This is beautiful... Love you and your inspirational videos..
She’s so smart!! I love her accent 😍
Thank you very much, there is always something new to learn from you. Love your and Joe's content, very well done!
Listening to the communication inside the plane, I noticed even on a short national flight they change frequency almost 20 times, just because every sector should be relatively small to avoid overload with increasing numbers of flight.
Is there an airspace to frequency allocation table in order to monitor or prepare the handover on the radio to preset the next frequency or is it always completely dynamic? I know that during the night the DFS (Deutsche Flugsicherung) combines sectors because of less traffic and less personell on the ground.
Any clue where to find such a frequency table?
It has a sympathetic effect on me when you pause for a moment and think about whether you have said the right thing and correct yourself if necessary and amuse yourself in the process.
I had to watch the video twice to understand everything you said. It would help to show some text or graphics before or during the explanation. Good was the example of NOTAM, also the list at the end - maybe it should also be shown at the beginning, or added in between with every step
Thanks for the video and the explanations!
Thank you for your explanation of all the things that pilots have to do. I feel quite worn out and we haven’t even left the ground yet! I think that getting away from the airport and flying would be the enjoyable part of the job away from all the annoying people on the ground! Oh, I forgot, at some time you have to land and the hassles start again! I have been watching your videos for a long time and enjoy them very much, never commented though. Thanks again, merry Christmas.
Thank you...
Thank you very much :3 Great video. Loved it as always. I will use this info for my project in the university. We dealing with new topic, about airports, so i am happy AF :D
Great video!!!
I was flying to Mexico City one time and checking the weather, the Metar included the abbreviation “FU”! I wondered for a while what this was as I had never encountered it before. Turns out it means “smoke”. In Mexico City, many people cook outside on open stoves, this producing large amounts of smoke released into the atmosphere from cooking. This phenomenon is very prevalent over parts of Central Mexico apparently. Very cool! Nice video Michelle
So it is an abbreviation for FUmes.
Jaroslav Ševčík or fumar which I think is Spanish for fire
@@Shadowfax-1980 fumar its the verb for smoking (smoke), the smoke you refer to is humo. Cheers!
@@Shadowfax-1980 and also fire is fuego.
You explain it so well! I'd make a horrible pilot, just because of all the stuff you have to remember. But I guess a lot of it becomes second nature in time..
I love how you consolidate your videos, short and clear.. Awsme.....
Nice topic to talk with.. I was about to ask you about this things 😂👍💛
Nice video as always! 😁
I really enjoyed this I was an air traffic controller in the Navy. Very similar communications. 😁
Really interesting video
Nice, smooth delivery. I took good interest in this one. Ok I'm waving the pin, by by now, your clear for runway approach change frequency to 11thank you 9909er to tower. Captain to copilot go pro camera on. Co pilot go pro on. Switch off newly installed air vein anti stall sensors. Aaahhh there not installed on this model. Copilot to captain. Good. You have a hell of a lot responsibility dealing with false alarms and other on the fly issues. I've been around a few years to know you can handle any surprises with professional ease. Not only are you smart, but you have a calm, level head. I'd put my full trust in you any day of the week as a jet pilot and a person.🎄🎄🎄
Great episode, as always ;)
I’m working at the ground personnel of Eindhoven airport. Make sure to visit Eindhoven someday!
Very cool video
Awesome video @dutchpilotgirl en fijne kerst. I just started playing Flight Sim X and learning about aviation, hoping it will help me get over my fear of flying. I live near EHRD and sometimes I just go by it to watch the planes. Its helping a bit tho. And this video really helps me communicating with ATC on multiplayer session. Hope you can also do a video about the MCDU. Still struggling with that one on the A319-A321. I hope its almost the same as the 737.
I'm a ground personnel ( I communicate to the pilot during arrival and departure) in Air India,
But I want to become pilot.
I hope you are as happy in your personal life as you are lovely since you are 10 plus lovely and bright. Like many I quickly check for any of your videos since I so enjoy your presentations. Your parents and grandparents must be justifiably proud of you.
Thank you from a senior Idahoan
Great explanation, thanks :)
Great vid
The best part of the video is around 3:12 when you become a bit more relieved, and smiling so cute. If you may do the whole like that, you might have 10x more follower. And 6:30 is also great.
Should a fight break out between some of the ground personnel, would you press the ground call button to stop them? Thank you for these videos!
Hi! God video and what do you thing about the 777x?
I saw u on captain joe's Airbus vs Boeing comparison and i m here...😉😉
Now he he is in a boeing
Thanks for the informative video.
Didn't knew pilots are supposed to talk to other personnel besides ATC. 👍
Hey, I will be visiting some flight schools in a few weeks and I really don't know what to wear. I've heard that you should wear a suit but I am really unsure. What did you wear ? And it would be so great if you could make a video on your experience on being a female pilot? And what advices you would give to young girls who would like to pursue that dream. Since the job is set out for men you only find experiences and advice for men.
Hope to fly with u someday! As a pax, crew, pilot or what ever... Must be an extremely good pilot
Hey, nice videos and very informative.. Just wondering if you could explain SIDS and STARS one time.... Happy New Year..
Nice 👍
how does ground staff now the engine number, is it painted on or is it counted like from port to starbord?
Squawk 2395 😁😁 try to set it on the transponder haha
is that code mean something or?
Haha very sharp!
@@thedarkside5322 Maximum digit you can set on the transponder is 7, so 9 couldn't be.
jakub l thank you, i missed that
2:34 Whenever you refer to something like this, I suggest that you start your comment with the time, just like I did with this comment.
What is up with the blueprints framed on the wall behind you?
What was your grades back in high school? How much money should i prepare in order to completer the training?
Hi Pilot Girl, I would like to know everything / throughly ground school between CPL holder to Airline operation, can you cover anything that Joe havent explained before on the area? many many thanks! greeting from a Chinese pilot girl😘
Do you use an electronic E6B or manual?
In which airline do u work
Love ur videos 💙
hi good explaination ,can i have your ebook ?i am a pilot student
Great job on the vid... You did it before Joe. Hehehe ;)
Yehonatan-David Vairogs lol it’s hard to find topics Joe hasn’t covered 😂
@@AviatorInspirations Well, now that I'm flying, I've got some, less technical and more hands on, kinda questions. I guess I'll email them to her. Keep smiling. JD
Who’s joe
RytheFry UA-camr
@@Rythefry09 captain joe
Have fun trying to dial in 2395 in the transponder
DutchPilotGirl if you get the chance to be appointed to 777-300ER, would you take it?
Can grround clear you to cross an inactiv runway?
Here's an example of how stressful a pilots life is. I agree with this video 100% Thank you.
Can u explain the different types of door lock code in the cockpit in the next video, please?
Great day😍
Hoi ik wil ook graag piloot worden en als ik zo kijk naar alle dingen die een piloot moet weten dan denk ik: dat is toch onmogelijk, hoe heb jij die opleiding doorstaan?
Have you ever met Mentour Pilot, you both fly with the same airline right?
Love you 😍
I did not want to be a pilot before but now i just want to Learn evrything about plaines how they work etc, should i consider this? I am 15 years old
in which countries have I been already?
Was that ATIS recording from EGCC?
I always get a kick out of the term "fully ready" -- it's a Euro-ism, I think. To me, either you are "ready" or you"re "not ready"!
Which airline are you flying for?
You look like my gf. She is Russian. I showed her your videos and she was shocked and told me you two could be twins :)
have you ever been in Bolivia??
🔥🔥🔥
Excellent informative video. What's wrong with your aviation life?
Information 'Excellent' …..
Notice to Airwomen! I love it! 😍
It’s horse shit. There’s no such thing.
Make a video of the Ethiopian airline plane crash
Dose she read the comments?
4:03 I hate that sound... Specially when you're going something in the wheel well.
nice video bruh
Does a commercial flight have to go through contacting all these areas as well or is it just private pilots
Yes, this applies to commercial flights.
She will never reply on my question why she doesn’t fly for KLM..
Squawk 2395?
Hi im imane from algeria i hope when u do ure next vedio mention me plz by motivational words and i want to say ure such inspired woman ure the symbol of women power and gratness thank u for ure time darling im a girl 😊
Ramp means disaster in Dutch :)
how's the social life with this aviation life :O
Nice video. But more aviation, planes etc please. You are very good to look at but we need some instructional/informational video’s too.
I love watching your video’s, but more “live” subjects, please. 😘
This is awesome how are you so smart! My mom says I could land a 747 I'm 12! How are you so good. I thought you let them no wats up nope your so smart!👩✈️😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
Do you need to have 2020 vision to become a pilot?
For flying in the United States as a Private Pilot, no. If you wish to fly for an airline you will need 20/20 vision but may use corrective lenses.
Squawk 23’9’5...... WoW. You gots to be kidding!!! 😂 Ryan Air material.
I'm amazed that pilots are about to understand and remember what is said on the radio. It sounds like gibberish.
Notice to Airwomen Michella, absolutely brilliant, love the sense of humour.🤣🤣🤣🤣😉😎👍❤❤
- until you use that BS on your written exams and fail. Grow up!
4:12 😍
Make please subtitles (not automatically)
I wonder if she's ever plugged her channel to passengers on a flight ;) on most flights it's routine for pilots to communicate from cockpit to cabin
By "plug", I mean saying that she's DutchPilotGirl from UA-cam, not that most of the passengers would care anyway ;)
What’s up with the ATIS saying runway wet 3 times?
It means the start, middle and end of the runway are all wet.
Paul De Groot Thanks 👍
Hahaha as a controller the Ground Controller is not ever going to be walking around near the airplane. The Ground Controller is in the tower sitting right next to the Local Controller 👌🏼🤣 Still enjoy your videos though and they have good info
is there more physics and meteorology than math for pilots?
Is the push back any different if the pilots are doing a power back using the engines rather than being pushed back by ground personal?
It is not legal to push back using reverse thrust
Sure it is, seen it done lots of times but it probably depends on which airport.
Boodieman72 uhh no it is not it may be legal (although highly doubt it) but it would be so inefficient, noisy, dangerous etc.. that there wouldn't be a point in doing so
After reading it seems that it used to be quite common in aircraft that had tail mounted engines and the price of fuel was a lot lower. I could not find anything from the FAA banning it.
Well pushback was used and alowed in the past. Now it is not, mainly for the safety reasons and then efficiency and fuel prices.
And lower mounted engines are happy to have a longer lifespan too. :)
squawk 2395 ????????? 9 ???
What does Juliette mean
Pilots use a phonetic alphabet to describe the letters spoken in aviation. Juliette is the word used for the letter J. Every letter has a phonetic word attached to it..... for example B is Bravo, D is Delta. This alphabet is used world wide so letter that sound similar don’t get confused. Think of how similar B and Z sound. You would not want to be cleared to taxiway B and mistake it for D or Z. Go to Google and search “phonetic alphabet” to get a list.
@@jamesdean2185 Good point James...thanks for adding that
ATC. Without them, we'd be lost
2:26 squawk 2395 lol
There isn't anything better for future male pilot, than to have female instructor. Cannot define why I think that, but something is "telling" me that.
More right rudder, more right rudder! 😅
Too many frequencies. I like a nice class G CTAF airport, one frequency for everything and no ATC.
good luck with getting, for exaplme, heathrow traffic to not collide without ATC. They aren't so scary once you get used to them, except in JKF, JFK is seemingly always scary
Notice to AirWOMEN!! I like it 😀
