  • Spent part of Easter Weekend on the Lagoon and enjoyed another successful trip, with the highlight being the landing of an overslot redfish. I'm including that fight in it's entirety, awkward moments and all, because it was such a unique challenge and I'm still amazed I didn't lose the fish. It's one I will never forget!

Jeff, absolutely amazing catch!!! I am amazed the stump did not break the line on a fish that solid. You're the man!👍

Thank you! It was more luck than skill, but I couldn't believe it either. It was only 15lb braid, but it was new, so that maybe helped.

Man, that was an epic battle getting that red out of those stumps! Well done!

Awesome effort Jeff. Re-title the video the legend of 'Old Stumpy'.

You’ll never forget that one, I’ll never forget it either when I’m telling people red fishing stories. I chose to go out Friday and not risk the crowds, even though the weather looked pretty good all weekend. I couldn’t find anything until I went to the last spot. Water was muddy and there was bait around, sure enough that’s where the reds were, got 2 one was 28” and one 22” a big trout also. I thought there would be a lot of mullet around by this time, but there’s not many showing up yet.

Glad you found some! The silted up areas seemed to hold the most fish 100%, but they were busy doing something "else" and didn't want to be bothered. Only the single fish I found showed any interest at all.

Saw you there at the ramp Saturday... I didn't have time to say hello. We did not have much luck... Only caught two but saw probably 30 or so Redfish. But they just weren't interested in anything we threw at them. Even threw the fly rod a several. Nice to see someone caught one that day!

Thanks! They just weren't in the mood. I don't think I included it in the video for sake of time, but I filmed a segment talking about how it seemed like only individual fish would consider eating my lure. Anything schooled up wanted nothing to do with it.

Saturday was perfect weather for fishing. We were up near Ponce Inlet and had some good topwater bites on slick calm water.

It was a perfect day, if only the fish had thought so too. LOL

This might be the most fishing fishing video I have ever seen. I think we all have a similar story. I jumped out of the boat one time to chase a snook under several docks. Great catch!

Awesome fight, and I don’t use that word!! You’d said that it was the fight to remember and you didn’t lie, that was a tough one. Really enjoyed our conversation in the parking lot. We fished the same neighborhood but you did better than I did. I don’t feel bad after you were refused a bunch also. I’m jacked about the prospect of going again and finding similar conditions and activity. Good to meet you…..Tim

Thanks Tim! Nice talking with you, and James too. This was pretty indicative of how conditions have been lately, but I feel like the bite is starting to improve with the general warming of the weather.

For me, it’s about time. I’m still learning a lot over there and blank days are hard on a man. You show me something new most every video so keep ‘em coming. Thanks for all you do for us.@@JeffHammerFishing

Nice Job Jeff. I had an absolutely miserable weekend by comparison. I fished Fir-Sun and caught 3 small reds only. The bite was awful up in Oak Hill, lots of fish but no interest. You reminded me that the lagoon is a big place and I need to get out of my pattern. Plus the circus of rec boaters and inconsiderate fisherman was enough to put me over the edge.

Sorry to hear that Robert! It happens to all of us sometimes. But if it helps, others I've talked to said it was a tough bite too. I was hesitant about going myself, but figured I'd work around the crowds if I had too. I was pretty much always in sight of another boat though. Thankfully, no one was rude where I was, this time.

@@JeffHammerFishing Of course we are putting a little extra pressure on ourselves making videos. I just can't keep up with a weekly vlog when I'm struggling to put quality fish in the boat. If I'm not having fun I can't make good videos. I greatly respect all of you guys that are able to do this.

@@LynxAngler Truth! If I wasn't enjoying it I wouldn't do it either. The reality is, I make these videos because I love to fish. I don't fish because I like making videos. Same thing with guiding. I used to get a lot of people asking me why I don't become a fishing guide and the reason is, if made fishing work, I wouldn't enjoy it anymore.

Man I feel you I went out to oak hill the past two times and got skunked with the reds out there

@@Drizzoj The areas around slippery creek are never without red fish, but often times they can be very spooky and hard to catch. I think they get a fair bit of pressure.
