    Alan Wilder is inseparable from DM, since he left the band, something is missing in their songs. How I wish Barrel of a Gun, The Dead of Night, The Sinner in Me, Wrong, etc. would have been arranged and produced by him. How so nice it would be if he came back and we could recover everything we lost when he left.

    This was really interesting. Since he's the lead in a tribute act, I was expecting Freddie to focus on Dave and DM in more recent years, so I was pleasantly surprised to hear him speak so fondly about Alan, including the production work he put in and the lack of appreciation he received. Also, it's great that Freddie got to meet him. But, yeah, that interview he referred to was grim; as he said, it was like the final nail in the coffin, and you could see that even the interviewer was like 'shall I ask this?' before pointing to a colleague and saying, 'he made me ask!' It was especially unfortunate since it came right after an interview in which Dave mentioned texting Alan, so it was like, 'well, at least they're still in touch and hopefully on good terms.' But Dave's angry reaction in the subsequent interview shocked me: I know it must be an annoying topic, but I'd never seen him react in that way before. He'd always been complementary and gracious. 😔

    Alan is the most mature, sophisticated, classically trained and hardest working of the band and it showed. DM is missing his talent for sure.

    No doubt that that Alan was a very important integral part of Depeche Mode. You still have though two other integral parts remaining in Dave and Martin and that’s why Depeche Mode are still making music today. Yes their music has evolved after Alan had left. There are many that dislike it while the majority I think still love their music! If it had been Dave or Martin that left the group I’m not so sure that Depeche Mode would’ve survived.

      DM achieved greatness with Alan but that was not all him, it was the magic of their collaboration. And I agree, they're still good and I enjoy a lot of their new songs. It's just not the same level without Alan. Just as he never made anything as good as what he did when he was in the band. They were magic in a bottle.

    Depeche Mode without Alan didn't evolve. It lost value. Just imagine DM today with Alan. Listen to his remix of In Chain and that would give you an idea. The world was about to go to the next level and we got stuck.

      They didn't evolve? They are one of the best selling live acts and their albums past Alan also reached No 1 in several countries...

      Not really , easy for Alan to come in and mix one song after he left in 1995 . He’s hardly going to make a mess of it , and naturally enough Alan fans will think it’s the best thing ever.
      Alan was brilliant in Dm but he left of his own accord .

    It's sad that Andy is now gone and Alan will most likely never come back. I still love DM and their newer stuff but I loved them the most when the 4 of them were together. But things change and you just have to go with the flow.

    I met them in Palo Alto,CA. after the concert. A new wave club called The Edge hosted them for an after party. Dave and Fletch were somewhere else I guess. I got in front of them and they said that the limo was waiting for them. I asked for an autograph but forgot the pen...urgh! They were polite and said they had to go.

    Depeche should make a fun album like Violator because the new stuff is slow and too political, put Alan back in and he will make it fun again and call it- The Alan Wider Tour 🙂

    Its possible Alan will return. DM still have to fulfill their contract which was only signed by Dave, Fletch and Martin. Artists have to renegotiate their contracts after periods of time. Even if they wanted Alan to return now, they can't. But as they get older, it will be hard for Martin alone to handle the music and they will make attract way more fans as a threesome.

    I think Dave Gahan is over Alan's influence in the band and has the band the way he wants it with his own change of style and with live drums and rockier with his songwriting. I don't think there's a place for Alan to come back to, which is a shame as Alan's version of 'In Chains' lifted a poor song .

    Jonathan Kessler, the band's manager is too greedy to facilitate Alan returning. And the fans hero worship too much to boycott and force his hand.

    • @MelaninMonarchy
      @MelaninMonarchy  5 місяців тому

      Interesting. How would boycotting the band, Then or Now, force Kessler's hand? Or is the insinuation Alan was kicked out instead of leaving on his own volition? Thank you for watching 😀

    • @Kickingit06
      @Kickingit06 5 місяців тому

      @@MelaninMonarchy The band is drawing near-sellouts of arenas and amphitheaters and doesn't need Alan for their bigger paychecks despite being Demo Mode. If the support dwindled significantly, then once again, there would be a financial incentive to bring back Wilder. Unfortunately though, there are just too many doting fans. Really, the artistry and brotherhood should be the driving force in a perfect world, but I'm afraid Martin and Dave are sellouts on this front.
      If you need verification on Kessler's greediness, just see the extremely greedy accountant in 101. That's him!
      As for Wilder, he left on his own accord. Nobody pushed him out. But it's a decision he regrets surely. It's an insult that the band members have been quite distant for the most part. They know that he made them just as much as anything.
