The A1 & A1(M) is a very busy road. With most of it as straight through but south of Huntingdon there are roundabouts. Including at Black Cat Interchange (A428). Which there are improvements to be made to keep the traffic moving freely. I have been on the A1/A1(M) many times including travelling to York.

Cheers for this Jen,was this the first dual carriageway built from north to south,I can remember some parts of it being concrete and going up and down,I’m sure my dad worked on parts of it,I can also remember some parts being 4 lanes,or is that the m11

@@AndrewG1989 yes i know, i mean upgraded to motorway standard, only this part and Baldock to (now Brampton another debate) is left to be upgraded to motorway between what i class the two important points (M25 and Washington).

s125ish It is true when my family and I went from London to Glasgow then Glasgow to Edinburgh then Edinburgh to London I took the M6 instead of A1

Can you please do the A1(M) London to Newcastle? Best stretch of dual carriageway and Motorway in the UK IMO.
The only videos I can find are before the Motorway upgrade and also only in parts...

I thought Blyth was a lot further up the A1 near Newcastle.

There is, but there is also a village called Blyth in northern Nottinghamshire south of Doncaster.

It's not "relatively unimproved" since the 60s; all the roundabouts were removed at some point in the early 2000s so that anyone driving through does not have to stop at any junction. Some important junctions that had roundabouts in the 80s are now grade-separated such as the A57/A614 junction outside Worksop. Therefore, anyone using the M11/A14/A1 route can go non-stop, traffic permitting, all the way from one bit of the A1(M) to the next.
