Just came across this. Not ragging on Brands but noticed he basically said it’s too early to talk about next year or evaluate this year. Why I brought that up was I saw a vid of Sanderson earlier today after the tournament. Someone asked him a question about next year. Basically said you don’t wake up tomorrow thinking about that. That is something you do 3 or 4 years in advance. The man gets it.
He also said they'd be in the room on Monday. Olympics, next!
Pass the torch bro
Brands seemed tired and emotional…..I couldn’t tell if he was crying or not. Kind of felt sorry for him. The brands only know one way and can’t or wont change and whatever method they are using is becoming less effective. They should adapt or go away. They could hire them a Penn State wrestler as Arizona State did but this wrestle harder and want it more mentality of the Gabel era is not working for them even as legendary and incredible and as iconic as Gable was and is….time to adapt. Not necessarily scrap every thing but adapt or be pushed out
To be honest here and I’m not just saying this as an insult, but I get the feeling the Brands aren’t exceptionally intelligent
They only lost to Penn State by 110 in the team race.
PSU is returning 130 team points next year.
The thing is, Iowa didn't finish in 2nd place, they finished in 5th place. They only had only 4 wrestlers reach the quarterfinals, 2 wrestlers reach the semifinals, and 1 in the finals. The future is not looking good at this point.
Dispite the incoming and people on board I agree. Brands bros need to step up and haven't been able todo anything.
Brands schtick gotten old.
PSU wrestler’s get better. Just FACT!
Tell Drake to get off that one knee defense crap and wrestle he's better on the attack . and this coming from PSU fan
Totally agree 💯
For real. I'm an asu guy and he wrestled into figs strengths
What’s with the Iowa guys not going out there and trying to completely dominate matches?
For the longest time except for Spencer they haven’t had anyone that does out and and tries to completely be dominate. Very frustrating as a Hawks supporter.
Iowa - where great wrestlers go to become good wrestlers
Sometimes he does his wrestlers more harm than good by throwing the brick practically every match..seems to me he needs to make it more about the wrestlers than Brands.
he's a cry baby and it reflects on his wrestlers attitudes when they lose. He will throw a brick even when he knows that the call was clearly right just because the call goes against his wrestler. Look at the difference between Mesenbrink losing in the finals and clearly he didn't understand that he was down a point (ride time) and thought that the match was going into overtime and when he realized he lost, he didn't complain, he will learn from that and move on and it will motivate him to get better for next year's NCAA's. Also look at the difference between Brands and Cael while on the corner during the matches. One is out of control and the other is calmly sitting on their seat during the match. Cael will only get up and calmly challenge if he sees that the call was wrong. Brands mentality is that I do believe that he is telling his wrestlers that it's the ref's fault that they lost and not their own fault for not scoring more points. This attitude is then transferred onto the Iowa wrestlers.
On a side note. Whenever Angel Rivera is officiating, expect to ALWAYS see challenges to his non-calls. He's got to be the worst official in D1 wrestling.
And then look at braeden davis crybaby reaction when he lost to figueroa@@kawikajones9436
I agree with your comment except for one thing….take out the word “sometimes”
The Iowa Hawkeyes will be back.
Great coaches and program but the Brands need to figure out what is happening in March.
@@alexanderh.5814that means they aren’t great coaches
@@francostacy7675 not at all. There are many factors that go into being a “college” coach. They are like a CEO of a company. He is only 3 years removed from a national title and constantly finish close to the top.
@@alexanderh.5814 ok, you are satisfied with that. Not sure why but look at other factors
1. Iowa even in their national title year, how many national champions did they have?
2. Name the last time a wrestler at Iowa over achieved?
3. Name a wrestler that did better their senior year, not even Spencer Lee went out strong
4. Name a freestyle wrestler that comes to Iowa for international prep? Now compare that how many go to PSU? …….what does even a die hard Iowa guy like Gilman go?
5. How many wrestling program had gambling issues and was also interested in controversial wrestlers like Ferrari who has his issues?
6. Name Iowa wrestlers that do well internationally?
Even you said they need to figure things out! It’s Iowa with talent and the Brands aren’t new wrestlers or coaches or new to Iowa but you think they need to figure it out….THEY SHOULD ALREADY HAVE IT FIGURED OUT!
@@francostacy7675 “Even in their national championship year”….enough said.
The reality of the situation is this, Pennsylvania is so far ahead of other states in wrestling, to beat Penn St even one year is an incredible feat. Since 2010 Penn St has only been denied a championship twice and the TB is one of the coaches. When Ohio State won it in 2015, Iowa was 2nd. Are you trying argue there is only 1 great coach in college wrestling? TB excels in getting talent but he has to figure a way to not wear down the wrestlers. Like I said before TB is great in many aspects of coaching…BUT he is flawed in March.
Championships would have looked a lot different for Iowa if they hadn't gotten screwed on the gambling penalties and lost 3 all Americans for the year. Why were only Iowa and ISU penalized? Brands did well with the hand he was dealt this year!
Ok, is this Terry or Tom speaking? What about the Bramds always preaching about being responsible and accountable and dealing with hardships? Instead they played the victim and didn’t address their gambling and rules breaking….they turned into “ why you picking on us”
It’s not picking on you if you broke the rules ….what if every criminal said you can’t arrest me unless you arrest everyone? ….would you let those criminals go?
And you mentioned Iowa State
Got
Picked on to
…. They finished higher than Iowa
I thought the position Ayala had fig he should have awarded two cuz that’s a merkle and I’ve gotten points off that position multiple times. Idk am I wrong?
1:27 he’s looking at them to see if they still believe him lol
Time to move on from the Brands brothers!!!
It appeared Iowa wrestlers began to fade in February this year…compared to the March collapse we see every other year.
That is normal for Iowa. Either fade or injured when they get to post season. Something needs to change there if they want to be successful in post season as a team.
Really?? They just won back a couple of years ago and would have won back to back if it wasn’t for Covid. Things can change, hopefully they’ve recruited well. Except for AJ. The guy just has some mental issues and no one can get him under control. Hopefully his brothers don’t want to leave if AJ doesn’t become a Hawkeye. He’s not Hawkeye worthy anyway. Maybe he’s Edinburgh worthy…lol@@kawikajones9436
@@kawikajones9436 I like the Brands but they obviously have a problem with wrestlers wearing out by the end of the year.
The Hawkeyes should only be looking to recruit guys who go out there and want to win, pin and score points. I’m sick of this late third period sprint garbage.
So they recruit guys that want to lose? ….
Ugh that’s not what I’m saying dude. That’s a quote that Tom loves, Mark Schultz said it. They just have way too many guys that when it gets to the National Tournament go out there (with the exception of Lee) that don’t look to absolutely dominate. They’re super cautious for 2+ periods and then do this 30 second sprint nonsense.@@francostacy7675
They have awesome recruiting, it’s the coaching 100%
Love the haters/anonymous keyboard "warriors"- so tough!🤣. Get in the ring and do it yourself...then throw down on UA-cam.
Ring? Is there a ring in wrestling? You must be confusing this with the WWE? Step into a Slim Jim Bro
Speaking of tough guys…/Brands crying about being picked on when they got caught gambling….not a good look for a tough program
@@francostacy7675 Thanks for that clarification there "bro". Another keyboard wannabe "warrior" - bet you are a Jake Paul fan!
@@Portrayalpress Jake Paul, is that the guy that makes millions knocking out and beating tough talkers and MMA has beens?
I say you are the keyboard warrior ….clinging onto Iowa glory days of the past trying to talk tough in defense of the gamblers that fold in March… you got to know when to hold em, know when to fold em … and that’s in March from Iowa time to get rid of the brands and get a new hand
