Jazz snobs collectively eye roll whenever “Take Five” gets brought up, and I’ve never understood why. Paul Desmond and Dave Brubeck are both amazing, as were all the other musicians on that contributed to that landmark recording.
So in case you were one of the intelligencia; I didn’t come up with this arrangement to join your club. The tune was perfect as it was.
“Take Five” will always be dope. Even when it’s in seven.
