John, you are incredible! Not only are you making me a better fisherman, you're teaching me the local history! I'm tied up in Old Saybrook, CT, and I appreciate what you publish. You are my authoritarian on fishing where you and I both do. Thank you.
I fished plum gut and the ruins for more than 30 years. When I was a kid you could still see many of the individual rooms on the fort. Time, weather, and Hurricane sandy did a tremendous amount of damage to it. The original fort was built prior to the revolutionary war. Getting past the blues in those waters is work.
Loved the video of the ruins. Great views of undisturbed bottom due to prohibition of anchor or trolling. I used to do a lot of fishing just to the north as it drops off towards 90 feet. Years ago good fluke fishing. Great history lesson. Keep going with Gardniers Island. With that drone maybe you can find to rumored Captain Kidd Treasure. Lots of history on that Island
Always follow your videos for the fishing. I will admit, having retired from the Air Force and not lived on Long Island for more than 30 years I love learning about the different history of the Island. The end of this video was fascinating and an awesome little treat. I plan on checking out that history of Fort Tyler. Very well done, thank you for sharing....
Sometimes the fish aren't there, but the ocean life is fascinating. We go trolling for marlin here in Japan, and there are days where there's nothing going on bite wise, but then a whale shows up, or a big sunfish, or whatever. It makes the day worthwhile, and fun. While we want to hook up, there are other things that are great, too. Cool underwater drone video. 👍
Love the little light houses! I’m down in Cape May and there’s quite a few in the Delaware Bay resembling what I see in the vid. The water is looking nice ! Beautiful hue to it. Very cool water drone nice imaging on it ! Tight Lines from The Delaware Bay 🍻
My Grumman test pilot neighbor used to call it “the castle.” I remember sailing past it in the 70’s and it had blue practice Snakeeye bombs stuck in it from target practice.
Thank for the video. Always curious above and below sea level there, and always wanted to tog that area. I looked at the museum link and wondered who those visitors were. In 1905 they had a boat, the time, packed a picnic and a camera person. Pretty interesting.
JOHN 👋 : Can you advise what DRONE you recommend us BUYING ⁉ Thanks ! UPDATE: I visited your link but it says "currently unavailable..." BUT when I go to the MFTR website they have another link that says they have t !? You might want to update your link if it will let you ?
Wow it's a shame that fort didn't get to be turned into a park. It was probably really cool and would have been a neat destination. I've been to Fort Jefferson in The Dry Tortugas out in the Gulf Of Mexico. I recommend you take a trip out there when you're in Florida. It's a National Park with a big fort like a castle with a mote. You can camp on the beach and walk around the old fort and fish all around. And you can fish in the park in deep water where commercial fishermen can't go. There are all sorts of grouper and snapper and other reef fish you can catch on hooks. The diving is good too. If you can get out there I think you'll like it and make some good videos.
You make great videos. Really. I wish someone in my area made content with your quality. I'm by the Chesapeake Bay and you have taught me some stuff about flounder/fluke. I don't get a chance to use the vertical jigging knowledge much though. Are you still catching flatties up there? We still have some but it seems like they're starting to thin out. I saw a bird with 2 small ones today. We have a bunch of small speckled trout and redfish around right now. Everyone says that the keepers are coming soon. I'm ready. This year I want to catch my first stripers. I've been here a year now and it's time to figure them out.
Hey skinner, how’s the bunker population in the sound been this year? I remember last year u were saying there was a real shortage of adult bunker in the area you fish. It’s Been a little slow in the surf by me, a week and a half ago I had a some kind of small slam of a striper a bluefish a weakfish and a fluke all in the middle of the night as they were gorging on spearing but than it got quiet quick the next few days, than I was out the other night in the middle of that northeast blow and there was suddenly toooooons of 4-6inch juvenile bunker but unfortunately after many hours of fishing I didn’t find a single fish on them, should start turning on very sooon tho and hopefully b4 a storm comes around and pushes the bait on its way. Also hoping all those sandeels that hatched up in the sound this year keep the fish around or produce a good run of late season fish on the south shore sand beaches. Awesome underwater footage, I always really enjoy that, keep up the great work
There are none. I saw one school go by in June. That's it. I look at the water from the top of the bluff multiple times a day in addition to fishing. Beach fishing has been the worst since I moved out here 7 years ago.
Hey there I had a question about soft plastics, I recently picked up a few packs of zoom trick worms in white yellow and a shad pattern I was wondering if bass worms are effective at catching anything in saltwater I also picked up some of those googan drop shot worms
The Googan drop shot worms should work for flounder/fluke on a jig head when they're eating sand eals. I'm sure redfish/drum would bite them and I don't see why speckled trout wouldn't hit them. You should definitely put some ProCure scent on them. The tails will probably get chewed off. The drop shot bait isn't really very different from the Z Man Trout Trick, and they catch saltwater fish. I don't know about the trick worms.
Love your channel john, my brother is probably getting sick of hearing about you, every time we debate where to go fishing i start blathering about whatever you've been doing in your latest video. Guess we're going back to the ruins this weekend!
Very happy with the strict no music policy. Supporting you for 8 years John. That drone looks like so much fun lol - Also I think that baitfish could be Spanish sardines?
Hey John I know you don’t need to but can you make a video like the Montauk Specialist fish go get the porgies and put them on the live bait hooks sure beats all that trolling and parachute jigging I bring eels no matter what they last forever unless they get eaten.
these are the most relaxing and informative videos on the internet

Great video John and thanks for no music so many channels get a camera and all of a sudden they are record producers
Hi John.... interesting video! Thanks for sharing! Always informative and entertaining! I'm a fluke junkie.... love catching them!
Awesome video John love the under water stuff you can lurn so much nice job.

Cool underwater drone video. 👍
Very cool, was waiting for the great white! Baitfish could have been round herring, they come through this time of year.

Really great video!
When my grandfather first moved out to Shelter Island and fished those waters. The Airforce was still using the ruins as a bombing target.

We used to look out at the first light house in the video you see heading out. From the dining and living rooms we could look out and see the light.

Thanks for the kind words. Still some fluke around here in the bays and out.
You know it’s about to pop off when Skinner is holding the drone in the thumbnail
Thx for sharing .
Really enjoyed it !
God bless ❤️🇺🇸🙏
Fantastic video.
Cool stuff. I'm surprised you saw so many black fish with that number of seals around. I would think they be eating them up like crazy.
Curious about the fleece jacket. Where did you get it? Seems to help cut the wind and stay warm for the fall fishing. Appreciate the help.
amzn.to/3UC2FTb. Love it.

Are you looking for bass on the fish finder. Can you tell bass from the blue fish? Thanks
I can't tell bass from blues, although marks higher in the water column are usually blues.
Very interesting, thanks.
They need a seal season.
They really did a number on flounder
Hey there I had a question about soft plastics, I recently picked up a few packs of zoom trick worms in white yellow and a shad pattern I was wondering if bass worms are effective at catching anything in saltwater I also picked up some of those googan drop shot worms
Soft plastics are great on striped bass and weakfish, but people typically use profiles like grubs and jerk shads as opposed to worms.

@@comfortablynumb9342thank you guys so much for the tips!
What light house is that you past in the beginning of the video?
Long Beach Bar, AKA Bug Light.
Hello John. What do you mean when you said the tides are soft ? Thanks
some tides are 5 feet of water top high to bottom of low, others are 3 feet top high to bottom low....a 3 foot tide runs slower, i.e. soft tide
Pretty cool. When was this?,you had a great weather day, been blowing for at least a week
Right before the never-ending blow.
THAT WOULD BE THE PERFECT SPOT TO BUY AND PLANT SOME OF THOSE THUMB NAIL SIZE SEED OYSTERS TO GET THAT AREA OYSTER BARS TO COME BACK !!!!
The JAWS theme would've been great on the underwater video😂!
Bait was probably some kind of scad
I was thinking those baitfish might've been round scad, but I'm unsure.
I think you're right.
Baits looked like mackerel
I thought snapper bluefish but only maybe.
I thought some kind of mackerel too, but then the body shape is wrong, so I thought maybe snappers.
@@Fish-Erman Baby seals but only maybe.
Tinker mackerel
Bait is some kind of scad
Fort Tyler named after President Tyler who married a Gardiner:
The seals were telling J Skinner too get lost.
It's not easy to see but I heard reports of people catching scad. Look up Scad fish, I think it could be those.
Sardines??
Pin fish could be spots.
Those baitfish could have been round herring or a scad of some type. Could not get a good enough look.
Thanks Steve. I think Scad.
First! Favorite spot of mine
Love your channel john, my brother is probably getting sick of hearing about you, every time we debate where to go fishing i start blathering about whatever you've been doing in your latest video. Guess we're going back to the ruins this weekend!
I think those were either Spanish sardines or maybe even a school of scad
I think scad.
Those baits are scads.
Day 1 of asking to go fishing with you
Very happy with the strict no music policy. Supporting you for 8 years John. That drone looks like so much fun lol - Also I think that baitfish could be Spanish sardines?
Sardines look reasonable. Haven't seen those before.
They look like baby Bonito 🤷🏻♂️
Leaving fish to find fish ooooohhh. Lol
Those baits were mackerel or small bonito. Definitely scombridae fam
