I fish around Paris Tennessee where the Big Sandy runs into the Tennessee River and I have l lost some very nice fish this year so far mostly next to the boat . Been catfishing all my life and these expensive rods are just that (expensive). The ugly stik has been catching giant cats long before these other rods was even a thought. Ugly stik big water medium heavy will catch any catfish and they're priced right. You can watch video of rods pulling trucks and dead lifting 150 lbs, but you aren't going to catch a cat as heavy as a truck nor dead lift a 150 lb cat.
I enjoy your videos! No nonsense fishing! Catch them no matter how big they are back in the water fast! Not like these other guys taking a photo shoot! Good job! I may have to move to Tennessee my uncle lives there!

Stiff poles need lighter line so you get a little flex. Just set your drag low so it doesn't brake the line. Works for me,not good for getting caught on tree's though.
I was fishing that same day a couple of miles up river from you and I had five line peeling hits and didn’t hook up on any of them, you weren’t the only one missing fish that day. I never lost a bait either, I was using white bass for bait. Not a great day for us both.
Catfish Dave! 😁thats entertainment. Its not the rod. You need to adjust your technique to suit the rod OR dont use that rod. Seems like your other "good" rods, got no fish bites? Is that the better solution? 😅J-hook? Remember to set the hook with some ummmph. Maybe because its spawn they aren't as aggressive. Use smaller baits.... You are the catfish master but adjustments are necessary for all fisherman
Dave I am sorry! I was fishing the Mississippi and fought a big un right to waters edge in that current and it was best fight! Only to have my hook come off and the big un swam off! Sad
I liked seeing this video because as a person who fishes a lot you have days when you don't catch a ton of fish or any fish at all I was disappointed that you went to a treble hook just to catch a fish besides a bass type fish but my main thing is that you didn't get skunked regardless of what rod is was caught on fishing don't always equate to catching the video is not the same but it's the life fishing you have good days and bad so there's nothing wrong with posting a bad day because we've seen plenty of the good days
I had a guy pulling tube in big ass pontoon boat all day ever place I stopped to fish doin donuts right in front of me like I wanted to wach him then the ass hole thought he was go I n beat me back to ramp when it started to git dark well he walked up hill git his truck I parked my sea ark right in way made him wait till I walked up got my truck them I made him move over so I could back in and I took my sweet ass time 😅
Dave, I understand the human tendency to give fish what we call a thinking brain. But it cannot be in any fishes thought processes to know or somehow choose what rod to hit or leave alone. They have no rational thinking brain; they respond instinctively positively or negatively to feeding stimuli presented to them. The visual, rigging, depth or running placement dynamics of that center rod was somehow different then the 2 outer ones, and was more appealing in 1 or more ways than they were. The too stiff part can indeed play a pivotal role in landing them though.
I enjoy fishing even if I don't catch a thing. Being at water with a rod beats sitting home scratching your butt. I'd throw that rod overboard and go back to my Mad Katz.
There's a flathead about 40 lb. Missing one eye .. We caught him twice about a month apart in the same hole. I have fished with ugly stick rod for 30 years.

Ive lost some hoggs at the Ohio River. They always figure out how to pop off. I lost a huge blue cat. Fought him for 30 minutes and he just popped. I was sick, sick enough to fish for 8 more hours!! Lol

Last year Dave’s rod wasn’t stiff enough and now his rods to stiff. I’m wondering what he took to enhance it.

Yeah I always keep a good se of pliers in my tackle box. I have arthritis in my hands and sometimes have trouble with hooks in fishes mouths.
