Behind the video :
In the name of science, we got two Irish people,
and two Americans and got them to do a blind taste test, comparing an American version of a popular chocolate bar to the Irish (or European) equivalent. The American chocolate bars were purchased in the US whilst the Irish one were purchased in a local shop here in Dublin.

The girl with purple hair has such a deep Irish accent. Love it!!!
me too!!! I could listen to her and the Sharpson brothers talk all day, just for fun. hahaha
That's not a "deep irish" accent it's called a dublin accent love haha
+Flare Rise sounds deep to me. Lol! That's an American saying I guess. Like if someone has a "deep southern accent" they could be from a specific place, but it just means it's very thick or obvious.
+Stephanie Bogart alright but s deep or thick accent usually means down the country and love dublin isn't down the country
+Flare Rise it doesn't mean that here. You can have a deep Boston accent or a deep New York accent. It's just called deep. I am aware that Irish accents are different in different parts of Ireland. I am VERY familiar with Ireland.
its actually pretty confusing Europe Mars was modelled after US Milky Way, but Europe Milky Way is like the US 3 Musketeers, and the US Mars bars are like almond Snickers, but US Mars were discontinued in like 2003 or something. And all of these are made by Mars, INC so they are all Mar's bars.
Yup, and so is the Galaxy bar loved in the UK. The American version of that is Dove chocolate.
Would have been fantastic if the makers of this channel weren't completely ignorant about any of the good food from America. The American chocolate they chose for this video sucks, that doesn't mean all American chocolate sucks.
Arghhhh!!!! Help my brain is melting 😩😩😩
I think the idea was to see the difference between the chocolates counterparts. Besides, it's not like they chose special Irish chocolate either.
I'm so confused now
The purple haired girl sounds like the sister of the leather jacket wearing "are ya having that" guy
Him giggling to "...four finger bar" LOL! Too cute!
and seriously, Donal wins for best ending take away EVER!!!! lol
Didn't even realise there was an American in this video until I read the comments lol
sup dude y'all im from michigan luvs guns and starbucks
People from Michigan don't say "ya'll", that's southern slang...
I'm on to you CXK03! You almost had me with your gun loving ways.
Haha, yeah Michigan is more near Cananda than the south. xD
To be fair, CXK03 did spell it right, despite their northern location.
Michigan might as well be in the south
As an american, I can say american commercial chocolate is bad. European chocolate has a much higher cocoa content, and the cream they use in making it makes the chocolate so much creamier and smoother.
Just go to s family owned childcare factory, my town has one and it's where I get everyone's birthday presents.
+Mike oone chocolate factory**** not childcare
Well i did say american commercial chocolate... not smaller artisanal chocolate.
Shawn M Ehh, I don't know if I'd call it artisan chocolate, there isn't a single bearded hipster with a ironic shirt working at the place.
+Shawn M well, yeah, that's like comparing a ferrari to station wagon, it's not meant to be better
Him calling Irish Kit Kat at the end was PRICELESS... a 4 finger bar... hahaha.
she knows all the chocolate of the land lol
Irish people watch Bill Nye the Science Guy.
americans do to
Yes that would be nice to watch
derp
Yup
that or Mr. Rodgers Neighborhood
'I know all the chocolate of the land' That was a good starter of the video!😊
Yes! Keep the taste tests coming guys!
Love the new faces. And of course Donal, our go-to Sharpson.
ok that woman with the colored hair looks like ashley benson
Her name is Aine O Neill.
I thought she was Natalie Dormer at first!
I love her voice
Lilly Matthews no she doesn't but their eyes do look similar
Yay! I've been away for a week and a bit and now have loads of Facts. videos to catch up on
+Nadia Mohamed Thanks ☺
The ending hahaha "yeah I have a four finger bar" seemed so funny for some reason
Aine is so cute and seems so genuine!
It's gotten to the point where I like the video before it starts, knowing that it will be a good video.
Hahaha, Donal sniffing the Kit Kat like a cigar. Classy.
This channel is everything I loved from buzzfeed, + irish women, + leather jacket man.
i think i'm in love with the girl with the grey turtle neck ...i dunno why....
thank you so much! you're awesome
+Nadia Mohamed As you know, I adore Aine, but did you ever figure out who the blonde girl was? And that one guy with no accent, for that matter
+Nadia Marie Blasphemy! Americans in a Facts video?
I know I am in love with her, she is sexy as hell.
Donal actually called customer service... lol
I completely lost it at the Four finger bar giggle.
beardy tshirt guy is so adorable
Nadia Mohamed his saying chocolate can kill or something this is hilarious
The end of the video omfg..."have you got a four-finger bar?" "Ah...yep, I've got a four finger bar..."
I'm American and I have heard of Mars Bars, but I don't think I've ever seen one.
discontinued you'll rarely see or find one in the US
All you need to do is travel to Canada, they've been around for years here.
***** I didn't even realise Timmy's had bear claws. I'll have to check them out.
It'll be in the "ethnic" aisle at your more upscale supermarket
***** What do you have against the cute long faces of our moose? You're right though, there probably would be an uproar if a moose was killed in someone's house. I guess Cdns view it as an extreme way to remove the monster. This is just a guess but I think people would simply prefer to tranquilize and move the moose to the forest. We prefer to keep our wildlife alive (except when we hunt them)
I love these videos!
Very happy with the selections here. They were all popular snacks.
No Swiss ? No Belgian ?
This is like comparing Russian vs Chinese pizza.
It's Irish vs American. Why would Swiss and Belgian be involved? What the fuck are you talking about?
I don't want to insult you by explaining it.
I really wanna try russian pizza now..
+bexa_18 ah fuck, continental chocolate snobs.
If you think the vegans are bad, wait until you hear the chocolate guys waffle on about how great their bars are because they're so bitter.
Both the chocolate and their fans.
what the existential fuck are you on about?
The guy with the beard is just....I could drown in his eyes.
Bono! Did he make this? hahaha
yes finally! they did a American milky way! lol been waiting for that for a long time.
That blonde American though... hubba hubba.
WHO IS THE IRISH GIRL SHES AMAZING
It's strrange how you know that, Nadia, unless you produced the video?
every Facts woman is smoking hot :)
+McGovP Nadia is the guru of all things Facts.
Benedict Williams there's a new sheriff in town and that's me
Johnny Quest but I did not shoot the deputy love a joint now I wasn't even thinking of Bob until you posted that
I love this channel
'Bono! Did he make this???' DED 😂😂😂
At 1:26 he voted for the irish ones and u gave the point to the american ones :v
and at 1:33 he voted for american and they gave a point to the irish ones, so it's even I think
But Bono represents Ireland and at 1:26 it was Bono and they gave a point to the american ones and at 1:33 it was the other guy and they gave a point to the irish ones. Bono is an irish musician btw if you don't know :)
Good catch, I didn't even notice that.
I think the American face is Bruce Springsteen.
+Spudeating Jackaboy the other guy is Bruce Springsteen
This is almost always going to be the case, from watching numerous videos like this. Whenever it's a person's native chocolate or a foreign, they almost always choose the native chocolate because it's what they're used to, what they're used to tasting. I mean the foreign could still be garbage, but it still seems to be consistent. The one American almost always chose the American candy.
There are two Americans...
***** The point still stands.
Lol. "You're comment is false by this logic"
"Logic isn't shit. My point is still valid"
We used to have Mars bars, but the were nougat, almonds and caramel covered in chocolate. In 2000, they were pulled from the shelves and rebranded as Snickers Almond.
I have no idea what the point of these videos are, but I cannot stop watching them.
I know we (in the U.S.) had Mars bars when I was a kid. I think they stopped making them or changed them or something.
I had my friend who now lives in Ireland send me some Irish chocolate (which then turned into an enormous 10 lb box of chocolate from multiple European countries, because he likes to travel and doesn't do anything on a small scale. lol) and man...I see why everyone hates American chocolate now. American chocolate will never be as good again. ever. I have been converted! haha
i really only like the york's peppermint patties
+Nadia Mohamed I haven't run out of the giant box of chocolate yet so I haven't had to buy my own. lol But there was a Cabury bar in there that was the best thing I've ever had in my entire life and I need to have him send me some more of those. lol
+Nadia Mohamed hahaa that's great. The Cadbury they make here is sooooo shitty it shouldn't even be allowed to be called Cadbury. lol #TheySayItsTheSameButItIsntTheSame
Fun fact: Thebiggest reason wht american chocolate tastes so different is that Hershey, and every candy that has chocolate supplied by Hershey, uses sour milk in production.
+Phoenixaflame17 that doesn't sound very fun at all 🙊🙊
She didn't know kit kat is wrote on the kit kat bars, HOW!!
In America they use the same recipe for the Milky Way as they do for the Mars in Europe, so you can't really compare the two. This also explains why he thought it was a Mars
The Cadburys in the US tastes like soap. Its so so strange.
Its all imported from Britain so its exactly the same.
Nope Cadburys in the US is made by Hersheys
No its not actually... Hersheys make it which is why it tastes like shit.
Ok i take that back my bad
I've lived in Ireland for a month now and I think Irish chocolate is better
They chocolate from Belgium.
Their chocolate is the best.
I agree ☘sooooo much better
I'm thinking the lights are blinking it's all over when I go out drinking
I can listen to the Aine O Neill all day long even though "i dount understand a Wurd" XD
Hey, at least their vids are longer than one minute(buzzfeed)
He's so upset he didn't pick the Irish one LOLOLOL
oh I'd say Donal has had his fair share of four finger bars alright!
"Send us your Mars Bars" lol who's gonna tell him?
Irish people watch I Didn't Know I was Pregnant!!!!
As an American I don't like the use of Americans in your video. They bring down the overall quality.
Was she American or Canadian?
As an American I don't like that only sucky American food and candy is ever used on here and everyone behaves as though it represents all American food.
she didnt say sorry so I say American
It's something that has been bothering me in their videos.
they talk about ANY American products as if they're inferior. I'm not saying theirs is worst, but c'mon. be a little less biased, y'know?
I may not like some American food but it doesn't mean they're all trash.
Jesus, what are they, five?
Ch-yeol Except whisky. They loved american whisky.
We used to have Mars Bars, but it was different than the rest of the world. It was nougat with almonds, covered in chocolate. It was replaced by Snickers Almond, which added caramel to it.
And yes, some places you can get it deep friend. Which really was a Scottish, in Stonehaven I believe, invention. We can't take credit for that one :D
Bono vs. Springsteen!
They stopped making Mars in the US I believe.
In my experience a lot of food and drink in the USA is inferior to food and drink in Europe.
Like chocolate, al sorts of candies, sodas, bread, cheese, beer. I don't really understand why that is. Maybe it's the US government letting manufacturers get away with stuff to make a bigger profit? Even McDonalds food was of a lower standard in my opinion, amazing.
Yeah Hershey's in England is 10times better than Hershey's I'm america
//Tara\\ see, that's probably because they have to meet certain European standards? I have tried Hershey's only once, never again.
Or maybe everyone just prefers the foods from where they come from. Americans would probably say their food tastes better than food from the UK, and people from spain might say their food tastes the best, and so on.
In Walmart, I used to buy Belgian chocolate bars, a lot like Hershey bars but multitudes better for less money. They came in regular, almond, crunch and hazelnut, which was my favorite.
Then Walmart bought the company, and they absolutely ruined the bar by making it cheaper (it was grainy rather than smooth), so it was like a cheaper Hershey bar.
Now they don't even carry them. I suppose they put the original company out of business.
The US government does let the FDA away with a lot leaner standards than the EU does for food production. Hundreds (possibly thousands) of chemicals are deemed unsafe in Europe for human consumption and cannot be used in food at all and we have very strict GMO laws. I think the FDA banned 5 or 6 chemicals outright and throw in the GMO stuff and the fact that we use real sugar whereas the US uses corn syrup, there's a vast difference in food quality as a whole.
TL;DR The USA has leaner standards leading to lesser food quality than Europe. Also no corn syrup here.
As I went home on a Friday night as drunk as drunk can be I saw a head beside my bed where my old head should be well I called my wife and I and I said to her will will you kindly tell me who own the head upon the bed where my old head should be well your drunk your drunk ya oul fool still ya can not see
Nadia Mohamed I speak the truth it's called seven drunken night's by the Dubliners great band
That's a baby boy that me mother sent to me!
That's a baby boy that me mother sent to me!
That's a baby boy that me mother sent to me!
Sommie Flynn I was to drunk to continue the rest of the song
The las with the purple hair may be the love of my life.
I never would've guessed the "same" bars tasted so different.
How the hell do not you know that is Bruce Springsteen?
Shame on you and your parents!
right?! hahahaha
Well, they're kind of irish. they're parents probably dont know who he is.
Most people under 40 years old wouldn't recognize Springsteen.
luke begbie So what? I am Danish and in my 20's, my parents certainly know both of the faces.
Leggo My Ego Shame on them as well then...
I'm fine with foreigners thinking everything about America is trash because at the end of the day they can't keep our names out of their mouths 😏
ThenColmSaid Are you havin any of that?
+ThenColmSaid Americas the greatest damn country on earth stfu
+Demetrius Davis Yeah. how dare they degrade our candy. They must hate America
+Demetrius Davis you DO know only Americans say that, right? Everybody knows voting for yourself doesn't count. Eejit.
ThenColmSaid you do realize that America is the most influenced country in the world right ? Everybody wants to watch our movies, sports , TV shows and play our games such as fornite but yet people always talk crap lmao 😂. America also was the first country to ever discover electricity so ur welcome peasants....
Ha. Bono and Bruce... My two favourite bands
This is really interesting.
One of the issues is that chocolates and confectionaries taste different at different altitudes and bar companies started adjusting the recipes for that, then started changing ingredients like MCS for sugar and had to compensate for that, and after that anything was open to change.
If you think the difference is bad between Irish and American you should see some of the Canadian to American changes to our favourites. Our Smarties got changed from candy coated chocolate to mints....bloody mints.
I didn't realize these candies were different. I guess I just assumed they all had the same factory settings when being made.
We used to have Mars bars. They are probably still available in gas stations that haven't had a shipment of candy since 1985.
"Will it be a twix? Who knows?!"
taste a kit-kat, "hmmm that taste like kit-kat" I would guess that. :D
peanut m&ms are the most inconsistent m&ms in size and serving
US Mar's bar is basically a snickers, with Almonds in place of peanuts.
No, we no longer have Mars bars. They were discontinued due to the high cost of whole almonds. Now we have Snickers Almond with tiny pieces of almond.
yes we have Mars bars and twix, 3 musketeers, etc. If you want one just put where to send it.
Makes me want a case of flake bars and snarties! We don't have them in the us. We do have Irish food shops in Boston but sadly no flake bars only Mars and malteesers
"The formation of this one is spectacular! You could build a house with this one!" MILKY WAY, FTW!!!
bono should guest star on masterchef after all that credit he's received
We had Mars bars some years ago and for some reason they replaced it with Snickers almond. You can buy the European Mars bars at Publix. They have an international section that has Mars bars, Bounty (which is Mounds and Almond Joy) and English Heinz beans.
LMAO Donal phoned the KitKat company to find out the calories in it
"Run of the mill irish snickers"
Damn...I didn't even notice that there were Americans in this video.
the bearded leather jacket man and glasses wearing ginger would have been perfect for this video
Interesting to think a company would have different recipes to use at factories in different parts of the world, but I guess that's what market research is for after all.
American Mars bars were renamed Snickers Almond about 10 years ago. Chocolate, nougat, caramel, almonds.
I would kill for a video compilation of just every time someone has said "Jesus", just in one video! It would be the best!
At least in the US, milky ways were originally meant to be called three musketeers (because of the 3 layers) and three musketeers were meant to be called milky ways, but somewhere along the way they got mixed up.
What you don't like about American candy, " oh it's to sweet!" Is the very reason you're picking your favorite. This one's sweeter, I like this one!
I love our Milky Way bars. They are best when frozen then put them in brownies and bake it. yummy! try it.
Euro M&Ms have a malted flavor vs theAmerican chocolate flavor. We used to do taste tests when I lived in Switzerland.
aines hair is amazing😍
Nasa's recently announced manned mission to Mars is really just a trip to the Mars chocolate factory.
Kit Kat: it tastes like a Kit Kat.
Well Donal we don't have Mars Bars anymore, we have Snickers with almonds.
I'll be visiting next month if you still want a Mars bar let me know, Donal!!
I absolutely love European chocolate, now living here in the USA the only chocolate I will snack on (if I'm in the mood) is M&M's. Everything else just tastes so musty. First time I tasted a Hershey's bar I just had to spit it out. Not nice at all :(
I think the Mars Bar here, if you can find it, is nougat and almonds and chocolate. And they are delish.
This one felt like a buzzfeed video
Could be the bland background music
ohhh, I was trying to figure out which one was American, I couldn't really hear an accent from her or the new guy so I was like which has a light Irish accent and which is American!?
I don't think they make Mars bars in the US anymore, but when they did they had almonds in them, which they don't have in Ireland.
Anyone else notice the guy with the beard chose the American M&Ms and they gave a point to the Irish ones ?
We should confuse them and send over Rocky Road candy bars. Yes they still make them.
Am glad they also noticed how dull the red dye is in M&M's that always bothered me.
