- In this video, I show and discuss records I am excited about and going to be looking for in 2024. Some of these records are new releases that will (hopefully) be coming out this year as well as grails I am going to be seeking out. Bands/artists such as The Rolling Stones, Van Halen, Yes, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Getz/Gilberto, Michael Bolton, Joni Mitchell, Bruce Springsteen, The Smiths, Steely Dan, Pink Floyd, Eagles, and the Blue Note Music Label will all be discussed.

I don't like spending over 100 dollars for a record that sounds maybe 5 percent better than a 40 and under record. One of the best sounding records I have gotten cost me on 13 dollars

i agree i wouldn´t spend more than 50 cents. on a modern version of an old album ,they all sound very bad and if some people don´t like the albums from the artists don´t destroy their sound trying to improve perfection and 100€ a record????nothing to say or better ,let me shut my mouth or even better let me stop pressing keys on my 5€ wirelesss chinese keyboard that is always activating the caps lock with 7 years of use, maybe it´s already A.I. chineses version

@@VinylPro never had thought of that, but when i bought a new house from the 30´s the room where i had a furnitire old from the 70´s that was excelent to keep the more listened records around 50 and on top i could put maybe 200cds but i didn´t notice it had humidity coming from under the house ,all the records had white dried mould when i notice, till toady i´m looking for a machine that washes records and only a friend of mine that uses two diferent systems but the most expensive models by cleaning them on the two machines it stays like new, but i think it´s too expensive and i´ve been waiting for a better machine to clean them, since 2008
Just a quick comment on shipping charges. There have been several times when I've gotten to the final step in purchasing an item and then cancelled the transaction due to, what I consider, excessive shipping charges. Not just vinyl, clothing as well. It's like they give you a reduced price on their product and then make it back on the shipping.
Me too. In this video, I was talking about a piece of artwork I really want. I put it in my cart and when I went to purchase it, I saw that they were charging $100 just for the shipping. What??? 😳 Crazy! Thank you and take care.
I sent a guitar for repair and it was $182. Shipping has gotten expensive. I did mine from FEDEX, using my own account. It was more than twice what I'd expected.

The Stones 45’s box set would be cool. VH and Eagles One Step would be a nice addition. Not sure yet what new album releases are up, I’m still getting new releases from 2023 lol. I would like to see more reissues from late 80’s through mid 90’s. Sabbath, Maiden, Joan Jett, Lita Ford, Ramones, Sheryl Crow to name a few. Wonderful topic and video. Here’s to great vinyl in 2024! The Queen is Dead - my favorite Smiths album. A little dark . . . but I love the craftsmanship and songwriting. I don't have that release; I still have my 1986 release.

I don't know how many times I've had to send back a CD to ebay. People advertise the CD as a deluxe edition then they send a regular version. 90215 is my favorite Yes album & "Changes" is my favorite Yes song.
Wow! That would be frustrating. Sellers need to be very careful. Negative feedback can ruin their reputation and I would definitely consider that for anyone sending the wrong product like that. Thank you and take care. 🤗♥️
Thanks for sharing your love for vinyl. It is for sure a journey… in my experience I have found that some of the original pressings sounds much better than the digitally mastered renewed releases, but that is just me. Love your channel though, so keep the videos coming!!😊

Hi Melinda. I bought all of the Smith & Morrisey albums as they came out. The Smiths, the Cure and Depeche Mode define the 80’s Alternative rock sound. The Queen Is Dead is brilliant. My three children whose ages are 17 - 25 LOVE the Smiths! Happy New Year to you and your family!

That Getz / Gilberto is my favorite jazz album, I have the AP pressing, but I'm also going to buy the Impex One Step as well. I miss the free shipping and sometimes the no taxes, it has made me buy local. Nice painting 😉

Happy New Year! I wish I knew you were getting into The Smiths, I just sold a couple of really nice original pressings that I found for a great price. I was not at all into them in the 80s...love them now. Still not much of a fan of Morrissey, but I love The Smiths stuff. I would pay the money for really nice originals, they sound amazing. Definitely recommend the Wish You Were Here Half Speed Master...it's so great. Not sure if it's true or not, but I have heard that the 1980 half speed master is the one to get. I guess it was repressed in 82 and the mix is different. I have an 80 copy so I can't confirm. That Creedence box would be amazing. I love them as well, and missed out on the AP pressings. Thank you for the advice. It's hard to find The Smiths in Kentucky but I will continue to look. I may find some on vacation sometime. In the meantime, I will buy reissues. I have heard that there are two Wish You Were Here half speed mastered versions and someone that has both says they are both great. That's a major grail for me that at some point I will have to pay up for. Lol. It would be nice to get a new audiophile reissue instead. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗

Gaucho originally came out on that rainbow MCA ,check yours isn’t an original.
The best value version of WYWH is the German Og 062 or 064 the second press.
The sound stage is huge sounds absolutely incredible it blows the reissue away.

HiMalinda, love your videos and opinions. I watched your “rant” about Blue Note prints. The best solution would be to buy the print you want and whip it rolled up. Purchase and mount the artwork locally. Not only will it be cheaper to ship but will employ a local company as well. Hope you can do it this way as I don’t know if they’ll sell just the print. That steely dan album gaucho my mom and dad got that album on vinyl till this day that's was my introduction to steely dan at 7 or 8 years old. And the Stan getz /Gilberto album on verbe records i got to check that album out i see the album a lot from the UA-cam vinyl community they have it on cd and vinyl i love verbe records they definitely put out great quality jazz releases i got one album on verbe records and that album is james brown gettin down to it i got it on cd he much singing jazz covers on that album. I watched your video while listening to ABBA's greatest hits, we are going to see ABBA Mania tonight, so kind of pre gaming for that. Very good video, I totally agree and have had the same experience with Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" it might be my favorite album of all time but I have gone threw about 5 copies looking for a completely quiet pressing, that album requires it. Hey Melinda. I have that Michael Bolton album on CD. I think it's great too. Don't feel ashamed. Everyone is entitled to their own musical tastes. I've always been a huge CCR fan and have most their originals. But when Amazon had that 2014 box set on for 60% off, I couldn't resist. They sound wonderful. The only complaint I had was, it was so heavy that the records split the corner of the inside box. The corners should have been reinforced a little at the factory. It was a minor detail but all in all I'm very happy with it. Good luck in your search for it. Take care now.

Hi Melinda. Yes 90215 is on my list as well, however it is catalog number 65 so don't expect it this year, even though I want it sooner rather than later as well! I am hoping for at least two Van Halen One-Steps this year! Sorry but I dozed off briefly during the video when Michael Bolton's name was brought up hahaha (teasing) I think the One-Step of Joni Mitchell's Blue is due out this month so I hope it gets great reviews. I would love to see a reissue of the Beatles in Mono, like they did with the Stones last year, making them color vinyl therefore a "new" limited edition run. I also look forward to Pearl Jam's new records, as well as Lenny Kravitz. A one-step of "Born to Run" would be very nice to have. And finally - Dire Straits "On Every Street" MOFI is finally out, and I'm getting mine on Thursday. Thanks Melinda, and best wishes for 2024!

Some releases I’m looking forward to are the AP Atlantic 75 releases of Genesis Self Titled from 1983, Duke and Abacab, Yes 90125 and The Yes Album, Bad Co. Straight Shooter and the VH 1984 One Step. The only One Step I’ll ever have most likely, lol. And holy crap! You just sent me on a search for a couple records! Just when I thought I’m running out of ideas, lol. The Wish You Were Here 1/2 speed master, and I didn’t even know the CCR AP box existed! I just finished getting NM copies of all their OG albums (except Mardi Gras) *our taste is So freakishly similar, lol. I’m findiing the albums separately as well on Discogs. I’ll start with Cosmo’s Factory since that’s my favorite :). So… Thanks for the ideas! Again, awesome video and have a great day

Hey! I thought you should know…. I just found out that the Floyd 1/2 speed master from 1980 had to be repressed in 1982, because the first was Not actually half speed and was smiley EQ’d! You can see that the ‘82 version is also way more valuable which is a little indicator of this.
I just pulled out "Pendulum" CCR my favorite LP OG/M- and surprised HOW GOOD it sounds - Thanks for reminding me of CCR and YES those are two classics bands that still rock my speakers - I'm lucky that the LP's I want are UNDER $100 I have mostly OG's from 1964 to present day - I love EDM (Lords Of Acid/Kim Petras/Charli XCX) and upgrades Progressive Rock (Pink Floyd, Genesis,YES, Gentle Giant, Bruford, Annette Peacock, Kate Bush) besides the usual older stuff (Beatles, Stones, Hendrix, Clapton, Jimmy Page) - what a wonderful musical world we live in - looks like 2024's gonna be a memorable one for us - Great video Melinda See You Next Week!❤

Great preview of 2024! Maybe I’m getting a little burned out on the same reissues over and over. Choice is a great thing, but one of my vinyl resolutions is shaping up to be even more selective than years past, especially on duplicative titles I have. That’s just me! 😂

Great episode and fantastic shirt. I totally agree with wish you were here. I have an original copy which is a little noisy and I need a new quiet copy for sure. Have you listened to Loreena Mckennitt? With you great sound system i would recommend listening to the album The Book of Secrets. This Album really sounds amazing on a great sound system.

I am a big fan of Creedence Clearwater Revival and the boxset is well worth getting if you can get hold of it.
I have always admired Michael Boltons vocal range, so when I got the opportunity to see him in concert I jumped at the chance.
It was a great concert and it was were I met my wife, so it turned out to be a memorable evening.
Finally the Timeless album is a beautiful album well worth getting.

Hi Melinda, thanks for another enjoyable video and glad you have much to look forward to this year. Here’s an observation (of which you may already be aware) - I think every record you mentioned concerns music you already have. No criticism implied - I am equally guilty and probably a majority of my vinyl purchases are either upgrading existing favourites or getting something on vinyl that I’ve only ever had on CD. But what does this say about us as collectors? We like a safe purchase, I guess! It would be lovely to pretend that vinyl collecting is tied to a thirst to discover new artists and new music but I feel I probably vacated that moral high ground a long time ago and I sense I am far from alone! Greetings from London.

You're not wrong. I do buy upgrades based on hoping to get better sound quality. 🤗 The jazz area is where I'm taking chances. I do have Getz Gilberto but most of the jazz records I buy are first time purchases. I'm trying to branch out by listening to bands like The Smiths but you are right. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
Fair comment about jazz. Same for me, these tend to be first time purchases given all the great reissues, although if I’m unsure (eg because it is some kind of free jazz) I will stream before I buy to check I’m going to like it!
Melinda, there are two versions of the Pink Floyd 'Wish You Were Here' Master Sound LPs. The first version/pressing is said to have incorrect settings of some sort (sorry, I don't remember exactly what the issue was), and the second version corrected the problem and that is the one to have. I think you can tell the difference by which version is which by the catalog number. The Master Sound is a great sounding version of 'WYWH' and I'm sure you'll be very hapoy you bought it.

Ah The Smiths!!! One of my top fave bands as it was part of my college days. If you just casually like them I think the Rhino presses are ok but if you really get into them you want to get the original Rough Trade or US Sire releases. TQID is their masterpiece as you probably know it is in a bunch of lists of best albums of all time and for 1986 but I suggest you get the double album Louder than Bombs….sooooo good

I have that 90125 Yes LP, but don't remember what it sounds like except for "Owner of a Lonely Heart." I think there's another track on there which won a Grammy for Best Rock Instrumental. Hope you get it. That's a pretty long list of LPs you're looking forward to. I also hope you've recovered from Christmas, because that could be an expensive list as well! Still, nice to see you so excited about what's coming. Your mention of Blue Note has me thinking a bit; it would be cool to see what they're putting out.

I own the 2004 pressing of the Creedence box set, All titles are 33.33rpm, added is a bonus disc cut at 45 rpm.
I also have some test pressings of "outtakes" cut at 45. I can't remember if those were actually released by analogue productions.

I would caution you on the CBS Mastersound series on half-speed mastered records. The mastering was done incorrectly on some(some say most) releases with no compensation for bass frequency loss in the process. So many of those Mastersounds are lacking in bass response
I agree that they are hit or miss. Some of mine sound great and others are just ok. This WYWH gets pretty good reviews. I would love to know about better alternatives. A brand new great sounding release would be better. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
Not new this year but someone alerted me to Gerry Rafferty - City to City (2022 Remaster) (SYEOR) and I’m probably going to need that one. Looks to be a two record 45 rpm (nope 33 rpm!) pressing.
Great album overall; I bought it for the hits but I kept listening and discovered that the other songs were good as well.

@MelindaMurphy so I stopped by Barnes & Noble and picked this up. No hype, says "Made In Germany" on the back. This is a two record version on orange vinyl, 33rpm, and has an etching on side 4. Go figure. Sounds lovely so far.
The CCR box is fantastic, but it is 33, not 45. It's Worth it if you can get it. Fun video, as usual.

Steely Dan is awesome. They are perfectionists and it shows in everything they made.
Long car drives with the radio on, that's a perfect way to discover music that would have kept under your radar otherwise. Suddenly you hear an unknown track so good that you just have to look it up and get it. To me that happened with "Cornflake Girl" which appeared to be on album "Under the Pink" by Tori Amos; and an album "Life's Too Good" (1988) by The Sugarcubes, an Icelandic band. Later their lead singer went solo. Her name is Björk, and her first album "Debut" is also very good.
I agree! It's much easier to hear new music while listening in the car nowadays. When I was growing up we had limited radio stations playing only a dozen songs all day long. I'm sure bigger cities with more stations were much better back in the day. Thank you and take care.
i have a looking like 78rpms record of 45rpm Deus with two other songs and a very smoth instrumental later in the cd that as regina it came with the song Deus but with the instrumental like the other songs in that album more heavy, but the first version was giving more power to her voice having a slow and minimal instrumental, i have a friend who had never heard sugarcubes but when debut came out i told him that he had already listened to Bjork in the band sugarcubes, but he had a very plastic comapct system from plasticoneer or pioneer and his albums were WHAM & george michael ,also had a jean michel-jarre lp and all lps from those two german guys that had a song really nasty you´re my heart you´re my soul, when debut came out he didn´t knew Bjork having heard through the years at my home or in parties lot´s of sugarcubes songs i remenber putting the lp with regina that had not the Deus song when released for him to hear and he saying to me that it was a very bad band without knowing how to play but later he had all sugarcubes albums including giglot a jazz" " album when she was 13, and he even recorded from MTV earlier in time a live videoclip from a song of the album before the Regina hit and he didn´t remenber . i got tired of Bjork albums but saw a concert in openair that she had a huge mounted system that looked like those things we put on top of a baby crib but with musicians and girls dancing ballet hanging over us the crowd ,sorry but my english is a bit limited and i can´t explain it better but to resume i liked a lot that concert and all she had created for that tour, maybe on of the best concerts ever in quality of the scenário, Deus means God but from the latim in portuguese ,french or spanish we use Deus because the three languages have the same gramatical structure coming all from the Latim

Hello Melinda. Enjoyed this video. It’s always interesting to know what releases are on the horizon. A few of your comments have lead me to some of my collection. I’ve the following to comment on.
Rolling Stones. I have two CD box sets from them. One is The Rolling Stones Singles 1973 -1965. The other set again on CD is The Rolling Stones singles collection, The London Years. Both to me, at least very enjoyable packs.
I have a Vinyl copy of Blue which for me to say is a beautiful album.
I have one Vinyl album by Creedence Clearwater and that is Cosmos Factory. I think this album is brilliant. Their unique sound is fabulous. Their track of I heard it through the grapevine is to me the ultimate version of that brilliant song. Again, in my opinion,it knocks other versions (Marvin Gaye’s) clear out of the ballpark. That’s all 11 minutes odd of it, a truly superb version.
The Michael Bolton was a surprise lol.

I remember when I saw Michael Bolton at Saratoga Performing Arts Center, the women were oohing and aahing like crazy. I get it! I was there with my wife to see a little known artist at the time, Celine Dion. Fantastic concert! Michael was the headliner.

Great video, Melinda. If you want the absolute best sounding version of "Yes-90125", then get the 1983 Japanese pressing. This was made with US stampers mastered at Masterdisk, and they are stamped in the dead wax. I have this and the sound is off the charts. You have the best of both worlds- US stampers and Japanese vinyl purity. It is the best sonic copy around. Also a clean UK first press of "Wish You Were Here" will provide you with about the best sounding version there is.

Great video and a wonderful wish list. Regarding Michael Bolton, I don't know if you are aware, but he started out as a rock artist in a band called Blackjack with future Kiss guitarist Bruce Kulick. The debut album was issued in a cool 3D shaped version of a deck of playing cards that opens from the top. His first two solo albums were also rock albums, 2nd one Everybody's Crazy was quite good. So he has cred with me even after he moved away from rock hahaha. As others have commented, Tony Iommi has stated recently that a box set of Black Sabbath's late 80s albums is due out this May. Recently got the Yes Album 180 gram lp 4 CD blu ray box set, lp sounds great. Looking forward to more Yes reissues. Thank you for your great work on your videos they are much appreciated.

The prices of vinyl driving me to SACD these days. I just ordered the MOFI issue of Dire Straits On every other street. What an album. I may buy the vinyl of Atlantic anniversary Analog Productions series of Alice Cooper’s Welcome to my nightmare. A lifelong favorite of mine ! My MOFI wishlist would be finally releasing Out of the Blue by ELO as I did see that pictured on their shopping catalog once. I do own that Hoffman CCR vinyl box and yeah….worth every penny.
It will be interesting to see what releases come out for MoFi. I remember seeing that ELO album too.

The only Smiths album I have is “Strangeways, Here We Come”. I bought it for “A Rush and a Push and The Land is Ours”. Can’t say I’m a big fan but it’s pretty good.

I got three Steely Dan albums for Christmas: Can’t Buy a Thrill, Countdown to Ecstasy and Gaucho. CBAT and CTE (black labels) went back because they sounded muffled and compressed. Luckily Gaucho (multicolored MCA label) sounded great so I kept that one. Aja on UHQR sounds really great to me; I’m very selective when spending $170 shipped/taxes.

Melinda, do yourself a favor and seek out a Queen Is Dead reissue with the "Vinyl Plus" hype sticker. I own multiple copies of all The Smiths lps and the vinyl plus holds up to the UK original. Phenomenal sounding. I've been infatuated with that band since 1985.

Big Smiths fan and have all their albums as OGs from my childhood. If you can, pick up Rank a live album from them at their peak. I was going to be selective on the Atlantic 75th but after listening to the ones I have my list went from six titles to 40.

Frank Arkright is a veteran mastering engineer. He did a good job on cutting the recent Bryan Ferry vinyl reissue lps. He worked with the original analog tapes.

i have albums from all the bands you refer but UFO for a lot of years i never heard anybody talk about them just remenber one guitar player having getting out of the Scorpions to be UFO guitar player ,the brother of michael shanker not sure if the name is correctelly written , i didn´t knew SAXON still existed, i when younger liked a lot Crusader and the power & the glory ,also have wheels of steel looking new because i heard it a few times and had a live lp or maybe E.p. from that tour, strangers in the night was a song from the album and also in the live album as wheels of steel song,the last concert i saw was from rock the nations album and i have it but today i can´t hear it , the concert had the wailers with peter mcintosh singing, bryan adams and bonnie tyler, i really went there to see the wailers who gave a two hours concert starting at almost 1.00 in the morning
