I have two excellent pedigree sable Czech line pups (6 mos and 9 mos). They come from very well decorated dogs. It makes a difference to have well balanced dogs. I know, as I had a Hungarian border patrol lines male that was nuts. His prey and defense where fairly well balance but HIGH 8 or 9 on a 10 scale. His on switch was VERY low and light. It took nothing to trigger his defense drive and that dog was hell to live with in a civilized society. He was the best protection (without training) you can imagine, but damn that dog was a MF to live with. He was constantly challenging me too. I prefer a well balanced dog and the Czech lines of my newest pups are great. Well balanced and working machines if / when needed. Great video. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much for posting... I learnt so much about from this podcast --- Specifically, the trait of 50:50 ratio (prey/drive) that makes an authentic old style Czech dog was EYE OPENING. Being involved in the schutzhund sport for 2 decades.. have met many handlers w their "czech" sport dogs..and it's obvious these dogs have much higher prey drive than defense drive. They look great on the field...but I don't know what it's like to live w them.
With Jiri gone, and what an institution of greatness he was, we need Hans more than ever. Love you buddy, you're the greatest! Zako/Fista 1 2016. Yangg z. Jirkova Dvora, just lost this magnificent male from Hans and Jiri. Deb and Chris❤❤
There are a few things that are best in Czech,Im Scottish,my wife is Czech my son is named Lukash. Both my daughter and sone have dual UK Czech citizanship and speak Czech. The beer is no doubt thee best in the world, Thats as far as my grasp of the lanuage goes( Yidno Pivo Prosime) Christmas potato salad also. That is some very intresting history there I wonder if my father inlaw knows about this. They must be good at breeding dogs also I know of a few breeders going over with and for Malinois from the UK. Anyway thanks for sharing,All the best from Scotland.
Our US breeder's line started with 2 dogs smuggled out (In soldier's duffel bags) in 1965 and 1970. We have only been able to afford "pets", but they have been outstanding dogs in every respect. Our latest is (of course) a Sable...seems like the thing these days. 1 year old and an absolute delight.
I’m not sure which breeder he’s from but we purchased him from Wolfgang Radar here in Los Angeles. So much personality, very active and verbal. Wonderful dogs for the right person who has the time and desire to work with them.
I’ve owned one Czech line German Shepherd a few years back. Before that, I had some West German line dogs as well as one American female. The Czech line dog I had was a good dog. If I were to buy another German Shepherd, I would most certainly select one from Czech lines.
Han’s has over 50 years experience in Dog Training - Imports The Best German Shepherds from The Czeck Republic - We bought a German Shepherd from Han’s in 2007 & He was The Best German Shepherd We have ever owned !!! protective - Loyal - Smart & American Shepherds could not hold a candle to him !!! We competed against them in school in Pennsylvania !!! So I hope that answer your question on Han’s - Sir !!!
So here is a question I am sure many want an answer. What are you looking for when examining a dog to see what ratio it has? I have a typically energetic Czech Shepherd who lives to go for walks. She is really keen on tracking and can be pretty aggressive towards other dogs, for which I need to be trained so I can in turn break her of this impulse. Interestingly, she has a purple spot on her tongue which has been mentioned in previous podcasts. I am not sure what it will prove one way or another. So what process do you take a dog through to evaluate its ratio? I would like very much to train her for S&R, but I am not sure if she predisposed for this job. My previous German Shepherd was an East German working shepherd that I acquired from a local police agency (who ran out of funds and was forced to rehome her). She was a very obedient but less impulsive than mt Czech Shepherd, an excellent dog. Thanks
Part of me wants to slice out the history story and use in our Czech Cultural club. I like his way of speaking and yes, best dogs best beer.... definitely something to that! Would that be alright?
People also don’t understand the breed survey and show rating also plays in . Thicker boned, neck and strength, but not oversized, generally. Add in the dark/black sable color I think stricter standards also applied .
As far as I can tell, really good dogs don't stay in the Czech Republic - just a few for people who do igp with them, it's a business like any other, and in America the purchase price of a dog is much higher than in the Czech Republic...
@@hans-alpinek9real I can still remember when the first "Ossi" dog was presented in our local SV in the early 90s. It sparked a lot of intense ... debate 😅
No it’s not just black and tan it has to be an angular weak almost handicapped lower back to be a show dog…. Quite sad what they have done to this remarkable dog and called it a show dog……
I have a check dog shes beautiful and stands out in public buttttttt shes scared of everything and acts more like a cat, not interested in food not toy driven nor treat driven not praise driven.
My daughter has a black Czech Shepard, lots of personality and drive. I love her dog. I really appreciate the interview, learned a lot. Thanks
That’s great to hear. Thanks for listening.

The knowledge and history shared in these podcasts is truly incredible.
Thank you for approaching it. I have learned a few things over my years and I hope some will carry on the tradition of solid fundamental dog training.

Unfortunately breeding balanced German shepherds is a rare commodity. I wish people would vote with their dollars for balanced dogs.

Are the Czech dumping the dogs they don’t want on the U S?
Can you get a really good dog from the Czech Republic?

Not just in America, but all over the world. A working dog is a working dog. Full stop, mutts included.
