I can hear you guys talk about German Shepherd all day. I really appreciate it. My GSD just had surgery for an enlarged spleen and I don’t know if he’s going to recover but thank you guys for putting out this great material. It’ll take me a couple years. he is only four years old.

I see virtually every aspect of training like Hans does. I guess great minds think alike 😉
Haters of Hans remember this: He loves dogs. He is an advocate for German Shepherds, not the myriad of stupid owners and trainers who know nothing and ridicule incessantly.
A firm, strong German. Like me.
We're very fortunate to have a guy like him as a reference. Life is short... appreciate this fine man.

Really good dogs, I had one but my house was to small for him I let him go to a better home near the sea side. I still miss him, that guy was so smart, strong and loyal. I use to visit him once a year and take on the beach for the day, he always remembered me. RIP Ben

I bought my dogs from Hans because he talked to me for 45 minutes on the phone! Maybe because I’m Serbian
?? Everyone else on Google I had to leave a message and most didn’t call me back. The ones that did were clearly unethical. Hans’ dogs have great blood lines going back decades. Extremely knowledgeable trainer and breeder! And a good friend!! he has taught me a lot!

Another wonderful video. I chuckled at the reference to some adding Malinois to the Shepherds. It didn’t take me long to figure out that’s what I inadvertently had rescued. The GSD rescuers had been K9 trainers and Schuyszund competitors and had rescued GSDs for over 50 years. When I went to see the dog they had for me they happened to say they had never had a Shepherd like her before, she was unusually agile, hardly shed and fairly straight and long in the back and thin. She had GSD papers and to make it even more confusing, the dam was a Panda Shepherd so she was listed as a Sable Panda Shepherd. Well, I’d had a couple GSDs in my life before and it didn’t take long to figure out that she was part Malinois. For me she is perfect but does she like to cuddle and get hugs? No but she’ll take a good belly rub. Does she require several hard workouts a day? Absolutely. Would she make a good family dog? Only if the handler is a strong leader and devotes plenty of time for play and training. I have to keep her on a lead by my side whenever anyone comes in the house, including my daughter who visits for a week twice a year. I like the idea of helping the best breeders by spending your money with them, hopefully that will stop the backyard breeders who fill the rescues with their dogs. The in-depth lesson on the fight to the death between bitches was fascinating it explained a lot about Great Pyrenees and other guard breeds who have highly aggressive females.

    Amazing video!
Can I suggest making a video on the different head types of the GSD?
For example explaining the "hypertype" or "cheap heads" on GSDs.
I feel like a lot of breeders from my country only breed dogs with very exaggerated heads and this makes it difficult to picture GSDs with the "correct" head type.

I've noticed that too... Also, allot of them have that weird "slope" back where their back end sits slightly lower than the front🤦 I don't understand the reasoning... Someone mentioned to me that hyenas are also built sort of the same way & it adds to their power, I wonder if that's the same thing they were thinking with the dogs ?

The problem with them these days is the they have way too much DRIVE in them. This is the fault of the sports people to get more points. Just stating the facts mark. Most folks could not handle them.

Guess I'm old school. In the early 70's my neighborhood was full of old time GSD's. They were all versatile family dogs. Knew each other, and and didn't belong there. Sure, you could walk by, but don't go in uninvited. Games like go "find" so and so (brother/sister). As a versatile family dog He (mine) Knew who I meant. At 63 I would love to finish out with a dog like that! And hope to soon find one. It's nearly impossible to find one that hasn't split from working to show.

I want to express my appreciation for your informative videos and podcasts. As a dog owner, I find it helpful to see personal protection dog trainers like yourself share their expertise and explain their methods. It's disheartening to see sport-protection dogs being marketed as actual protection dogs, and your content helps prevent pet owners from falling victim to these scams.
In fact, I'm considering purchasing your training videos on your website to learn more about how you conduct protection training. While I follow similar principles, I believe there's always room for improvement and I'm interested in learning from your experience.
Unfortunately, where I live in Australia, there's a strong focus on sport work and no club is available that offers assistance for personal protection training. I'm left with the option of paying and teaching agitator to help train my own dog, who happens to be a GSD with potential for this type of work. Once again, thank you for your valuable content

I have a decoy who has been assisting me with my dog, and I also receive online guidance from a protection dog trainer and breeder of them in Queensland, from whom I purchased my dog as a puppy. Naturally, I have subscribed to Hans and followed his work, as it aligns with my training approach. If you're interested, please let me know.

Everyone wants a man-stopper until you actually have to live with one. Have yet to meet a breeder that doesn't say that their dogs are all man-stoppers, Special Forces dogs that can also do the dishes... Search out the breeder that will give you a hard time buying one of their dogs- that is a sigh of a good breeder.
My female is constantly at my side even when moving from room to room within my house. She is also way more alert than my male. My male is a hard, tough dog with high aggression but given his choice he would do what he wants vs my female does what I want.
