Pfffft He didnt really want to until China did something bad first, THE JUSTICE WERE ALREADY PREPARING AND TRYING TO PREVENT THAT. The only reason Aquino agreed is because of He was told that he's gonna get criticized if he doesn't do anything. All these presidents.. Aquino, Duterte, Ramos, etc were all lacking in dignity when it comes to really protecting the Philippines interest because of their personal interest and bias mentalities.
I blame it all to the Phil Senate in 1992 when they rejected the stay of US bases in the Phils. & our sealine territory was left without a navy guarding it & China took advantage of the situation & it only started to build small metal hut then until they built an artificial island.
The sentiment at that time was anti-American. I guess hindi na-foresight ng mga Pinoy ang ganitong scenario in the future nung panahon na yun.

I was in college when the Phil Senate kicked-out the US military bases from the country. I remember that most of the students were all ecstatic at that time, not knowing that the Phil. made a blunder in deciding to remove the bases without preparing / planning for it.
Di ba nga? Dapat nun, nag-umpisa na ang Phil govt na mag-upgrade at bumili ng mga barko para sa Phil navy. Para yang tinanggal mo yung security guard at post sa tapat ng bahay mo na pinagagamit sayo ng kapitbahay. Tapos, di mo naman inisecure yung bakod mo man lang. Ni hindi mo pinalitan ng magbabantay.

Beijing's calculated efforts to shift the global balance of power, exemplified by their formidable navy, stand as a stark reminder of the importance of forward-thinking governance. Evidently, this wasn't a priority for the leadership in Malacañang over the span of nearly five decades. Remember we lost Sabah already.
Had our leaders from the late 80s to the present prioritized long-term national goals and fortified our motherland, we wouldn't face the risk of being labeled the "Sick Man of Asia." It's imperative that we learn from past oversights and actively work towards securing a strong and resilient future for our country.

I believe the present danger is the existence of 400 POGOS all over the Philippines. I have read that these POGOS have underground tunnels. People say that POGO is just a front, that the underground tunnels are being used to manufacture shabu. Also, I have read that these POGOS are located near military bases of the AFP. The Chinese have high-tech surveillance capabilities that can spy on the military bases. POGOS are a threat to national security. The biggest one is on Cavite, 37 hectares, can accommodate 30,000 people. Residents nearby say it looks like a military base for the Chinese.
Remember - HAMAS did a surprise attack against Israel. Many civilians were killed. Filipinos have to be alert and prepare for this possibility.

Former Justice Carpio makes a lot of sense. I agree with him that the loss of bases was an opportunity that China saw immediately to move in and grab WPS. Now that US came back, we are buying time while our allies are getting ready to defend our seas and valid claims to the WPS. Hopefully it won't be too late by the time US is ready.
