This is such an underrated episode! All the love goes to things like The Dragons' Graveyard and Child of The Stargazer. The genius of hiding Lukeon in the "Prison Without Walls," is the kind of genius you rarely get in a kids' cartoon show!
Eric says "we'll be rewarded in time for our retirement....." I'm thinking maybe we'll be rewarded in time for our retirement with a live action movie or tv version of thix show so perhaps in thirty or so years time?

A prison without walls is a clear example of life today. Many do not understand!! Grew up watching this cartoon, the greatest of all time!!!
Still waiting on the live action movie of this show. It would crush that 2000 DnD movie they made.

In my group of friends (and we actually played D&D) it was known as "the movie that shall not be named."
I never saw that film, the poster yes but not the actual film.
The 2000 film was terrible.
This cartoon serie could easily be one of the most amazing live action serie or movie trilogy in Hollywood put some effort on it.
Eric's the only sane person in this! He says what we are all thinking. :)
Good point! :) Eric the Cavalier (voiced by Don Most) often speaks his mind and is right a good amount of time. Definitely the comedy relief of the show too, but a favorite, cool character in this great series.
Even though Eric can be full of it sometimes, uh...well actually pretty much all the time.

12:07 man, this is one of the scariest kid's cartoons ever made, a zombie hand grabbing someone in their bed from beneath, if I had watched this as a kid I would have never fallen asleep again, pretty hardcore for a kid's show.
Kids programmes are too dumbed down these days, and too soft. I grew up with this and other stuff that was way more mature than the crap they throw at kids these days. It never harmed me.
Lamp Shade That's b/c everybody nowadays thinks that they should treat kids like a porcelain figurine,that they should be coddled and completely shielded from the world. Most parents know that kids are stronger and more resilient than that.

Anyone ever notice how Venger's castle/hideout/lair changes appearance from episode to episode? And it is often not far away.
True. But this episode's cliff-stalactite fortress is pretty bad-ass.

I think the reason why that earth like creature turned on those kids after saving their lives was because it was under one of vengers spells.
Just goes to show how much of an evil manipulator dungeon master is, because he could have easily got the gem and turned Lukian back, a long time ago.
But the kids have lessons to learn, that's why THEY need to complete every task whose Dungeon Master makes.

This was really not that bad a show. I just never really saw much of it back in the day. I don't recall it being that popular. I only remember seeing a couple of episodes like really early in the morning

The 1970's and 1980's had some of the highest quality animated shows, in my opinion.
Depending on what genre you are seeking, many of us 'children of the 80's' could recommend series you will love.
Off the top of my head.... the original Transformers ('84 series), Thundercats, Speed Racer, Johnny Quest, Star Blazers, etc.

Hank would be a worthless imbecile, Eric would be like Fred on that godawful "Velma" show, the girls would be obese lesbians with rainbow Karen haircuts, Presto a non-binary transgender MAP, and Bobby would be Bobbi, a preteen black girl smarter and more competent than any of the others. Venger would be comically incompetent and beaten at the start of every episode so the females could wax philosophical about the Evil Maleocratic Whiteocracy.
