They offloaded some of the gpu task on some (4) of the 6 available SPE in the cell processor, for things like post-processing, dynamic lighting, physics, AI, and alpha effects. So they had more gpu horsepower left to do other things like the 2xMSAA and 720p native resolution, instead of a lower resolution then up-scaling it which would have resulted in more gpu cost and an overall blurrier image.
I really really enjoyed KILLZONE 1. I played it non stop but never got to play the others because I got a 360 (turned Xbox fan) after having owned a PS2.

Like, I get it, "bleak grey games" were getting a lot of flak back around the early 2010's. But holy shit, imagine just how much a gritty Killzone game would stand out among the bright and colorful games of today.

But I did sit with him as he did, and I will confess that the opening cinematic had my jaw on the ground with how great it looked. Truly, though this game was not my cup of tea, it was nevertheless the game that made me realise just what a step up the PS3 was from its predecessor in terms of its graphics 😊

Horrid weapon limit of ONE main gun, absolutely useless pistol, OP knife, and clunky movement to make it all that more irritating. Don't get me started on the abysmal writing and lame-ass characters. And RICO. Good god, Rico. What an absolute tool. Everyone else was boring at best. Too bad Killzone 2. Another victim of too much hype, and not quite the gaming experience to really soar.

Wow when this game first came out I started playing at 7:30 pm and didn’t stop till 7 am almost 12 hrs straight of campaign and multiplayer I missed those times so much 🥹😔

They had a lot to live up to from the 2005 trailer, and they followed through big time. Everyone was surprised with the final result
