One playstyle I have a guilty pleasure for is the milling playstyle. Less focusing on trying to win in the main way and instead focusing on winning by having your opponent run out of cards to draw. Are there any options for this playstyle in digimon tcg? And if so, how does it compare in strength or viability compared to mtg or yugioh mill decks?
Millith is the main milling strat in Digimon, utilizing the red/purple Guilmon line alongside Lilithmon, and it’s quite effective! It has top cut some tournaments as far as I’m aware! Apocalymon can also mill tremendously and was limited to 1 as a result because it was very easy to slap down 4 of them in one turn and mill your opponent for 32 cards right then and there, although with the limit the deck doesn’t really care about doing that anymore.
By the by, leaving the breeding zone is NOT based on levels. It’s based on DP. Notice that all digitama have no DP. The exception is Mother D-Reaper. She is a digitama with 15000DP, and thus is able to leave the breeding zone. Very important for the super unorthodox playstyle that is the D Reapers.
While yes, it is based on DP, it's also technically based on their Level since no Level 2 Digimon has a DP value. Mother D Reaper also isn't Level 2, either, os yes while the DP stipulation does affect King Drasil and Gate of Deadly Sins, they(alongside D Reaper) are also very niche, very fringe cases, though I did not in the video itself that there are exceptions(and they were not worth covering for an introductory video, imo).

Here is my question, if I attack, can I then digivolve, and attack again? Not with the same DIGIMON. Or after you attack is the main phase over. I can’t see anything in the rules.
So the way the game is structured the phases are thus: Unsuspend phase > draw phase > breeding phase > main phase. During your main phase, as long as you have memory, you can do whatever you want in whatever order you want. There is no singular battle phase as battles are unique to each attack. So yes, you could attack, digivolve, attack with something else ad infinitum(until you're out of memory)!
Been thinking about getting into this, since it's just about the only game that people play at my LGS. How's the power creep looked so far as the game has progressed? Looking at singles prices, it seems card value is reasonable if you aren't buying alternative artwork or explicitly collectable limiteds, which is nice.
We’re currently in BT16, and there are some cards from BT1 that still see competitive presence! Things do get gradually stronger over time of course, but the inherent design of the game keeps things relatively balanced for the most part, and there’s really only a handful of cards that fetch a higher price tag(ShineGreymon Ruin Mode, for instance, but it’s also a secret rare and a high power blowout card that you’re only running one copy of anyway). Most of my decks I’ve built for $60 or less!
How good are starter decks usually in this game? Thinking about picking up one of the two new ones but I'm so burnt by being mistreated by my main card game on precon decks (ygo) that I have to know

I'm always torn with being sad it isnt more popular to also being greatful it isnt lol its definitely the perfect middle ground to get into as most people who buy digimon usually play it. While something like pokemon has a lot of collectors mixed in
@@tylergordon1847 It’s really not! The memory system prevents the solitaire feeling that Pokémon and modern Yugioh create, as it encourages players to really think about what card(s) they should be playing during their turn, instead of the same couple of combo lines that lead to most games feeling the same. IMO Digimon took the best parts of the big 3 TCGs(plus Vanguard/BSS) and left out all of the bloat to be able to keep games relatively short and concise, but still full of tension and meaningful interaction that literally makes every card count.
@Shocari ill agree on your points on pokemon and modern yugioh as those games are so heavily meta focused that 98% of cards are unplayable. I've really settled on mtg specifically edh format as there are alot of fun playstyles to be had where there are many plays you can make per turn. I've only played a little cedh as it suffers from alot of the same problems modern yugioh has. Digimon feels very cookie cutter to me and is oddly tough for me to get my head around. It's the card game I've struggled to learn most for some reason and my best guess is the memory system. You're right about it forcing you to really think about each card you play but it also has the inverse feeling of playing the wrong card and just feeling bad about it. Different strokes for different folks I'm sure. I love the artwork in the Digimon tcg they are some of the best I've seen in any card game. I wish I flowed with the game better
Some of them are in fact optional! “You can” or “you may” are optional as long as they aren’t followed by “then”! It’s roughly 50/50 on When Digivolving effects, unfortunately this was notcommunicated well
@@Shocari yeah, but the way it's worded makes it seem like you can choose not to activate when digivolving effects, even if it doesn't say "you may". Not the end of the world but I thought it was worth mentioning in case it generates any confusion.
@@facug21 definitely respect it! Digimon seems to have less confusion over its optional vs mandatory effects(as far as I’ve seen at least) compared to, say yugioh!
@@Shocari yeah, there are no missed timings in Digimon. You have to do everything the card says. The only case in which you would not resolve an effect that doesn't state "you may" is when the source of the effect is not in the battle area anymore. i.e. while your field has -5000 DP because of Shinegreymon Ruin Mode or a similar effect and you play a rookie, it gets deleted by game mechanics before activating any "on play" effects.

It was explained! After the breeding phase is the main phase, in which you play cards until the memory passes. So you can take any action and as many as you wish until the memory passes to the opponent. Turn 1 this usually means either digivolving a 3 onto the egg and/or playing one additional card, since you’re starting at 0.
For those who are struggling to learn or explain the game to kids: while Bandai does not have an official online version of the game (which is a damn shame), there IS a tutorial app! I'm always torn with being sad it isnt more popular to also being greatful it isnt lol its definitely the perfect middle ground to get into as most people who buy digimon usually play it. While something like pokemon has a lot of collectors mixed in
Soild video thank you
God I want to draft this game with friends, if anybody knows what set(s) would be most ideal for that, not having to bank on archetypes too hard
Love digimon but this seems way more complicated than it needs to be. The memory system feels really restrictive as well.
6:10 Activating when digivolving effects is not optional, the way it's written over the sample video may confuse some players.
What about the mulligan?
@@Kewickviper one mulligan per game, decided after you’ve seen your original starting hand but before security is placed. Reshuffle and draw a new hand and then place security
@@Shocari Brilliant thank you!
Could be cool a game like Yu Gi Oh Master Duel about Digimon TGC
@@alfonsomoreno575 check out project-drasil.online for a Duelingbook equivalent, or check out HoangZero for the EDOPro equivalent!
I suddenly have no way to get the cards in town sadly
@@DanielWest-dn5ez TCGplayer and similar sites will always have you covered!
I just need a Digimon tcg mobile game for me to get into it.
Where can I reliably buy new legitimate cards?
Tcgplayer has been pretty good for me. Haven't got digimon from there yet but I have gotten pokemon and yugioh cards.
Complicated at first but not nearly as complicated as Yugioh.
@@SteveLourenço_Official and thankfully the effects mostly explain themselves! The only real issues are when a couple of them go off simultaneously!
I will never have anybody to play and learn this game with. Im 34 year old dad of two and my few friends are definitely not digimon fans or would play card games. Son loves digimon but even i cant explain the game to him so we could play together (we do collect though) all this just to say....Make a fuckin app for us to play and collcet online bandai!! Would be the only way i coukd actually sit and learn the game
There is a few ways to play on line there is a site and a new auto sim
Amen
go out and socialize.
There's litterally a tutorial app for kids to learn the basics. I play it with my 14 y/o brother and he can pull off some good combos every now and then
Take the time to teach your kids and make it fun, and if they’re too young when they’re older you’ll be able to play together for sure
Im more horrified by the riffle shuffle thrown in there lmao
I thought it was the same as the game on ps1... and i think on ps1 is way fairer than this way
Didn't even put hunters deck, where's the down vote button smh jkjk
I just defected from yugioh and Pokémon
@@Shinigami_1320 I hope you enjoy it!
Ngl bro u seem like a super nice guy, but im an experienced tcg player and u didnt explain shit on how to play the game as a brand new player to the gsme with 0 knowledge of the game.. all u told me was that turn starts off by flipping over an egg t1.. theres a mulligan and u dont draw t1.. and if memory goes past 0 turn is over.. i still have literally 0 idea what to do after flipping an egg
