When power changes hands in a dictatorship, those in high positions should always be on there toes, because when new management comes, there will be a lot of reshuffling (executions). This happened when Il took power and it happened when Un took power. A fledgling dictator will always need to build up fear and respect or else they be assassinated, this was especially true with Un who did not build a good public image before coming into power. That's why he logically needs to go over the top with executions to instill fear and nuclear threats to appease the warmongers raised to hate America. He went so far as to emulate his grandfather's hair cut, gained weight on purpose and emulated the clap like an actor preparing for a movie. Though dangerous, at the same time, it was predictable. Though dangerous, Kim Jong Un isn't mad, he's just playing a role. If a dictator strays from the role of dictator, the elites would have killed him long ago for weakness.

JanPBtest while charlesdegaulle makes some really good points i just want to add a few. north koreans, while being welcome in south korea are usually not treated well. they are viewed as outsider who cannot be trusted a lot of the time. they also basically speak a completely different language at this point as well, which can make it even more difficult to live in the south. many defectors actually end up returning to the north on their own volition because of things like this. basically, they think everybody around them hates them. they also can't move to many other countries in asia, such as china, because they will be sent back if caught. so moving to the united states can be a good move if they can make it here. plus, what better way to piss off kim than to come live here?

Well the Korean War was started by North Korea funded by the USSR. A US led UN coalition then fought the Koreans back up until the border with China. Then China fearing a US presence at their border then decided to attack the US/UN till the border. So the war ended in an armistice. The US did not create NK but help stop it from taking over the Korean Peninsula
