I am 74 and remember the big freeze of 1963 when I was at school. Steam trains made it through horrendous drifts and the rail network kept running. Seeing your lovely train running in these wintery conditions brings back memories for me.
So atmospheric, particularly the steam from the heating coming from between the carriages. Reminds me of going Christmas Shopping from Lancaster to Preston or Manchester in the 1960s
What a fantastically atmospheric film. I'm a diesel fan usually (nice 24 btw) but I watched this from end to end as the shots of the steam trains powering along the line were mesmerising. Thank you.
I think we have a few shots of diesels in the snow. I'll have a look through the archives and see if I can get enough clips for a short diesel video in the snow
Wow, absolutely fantastic footage, thanks for sharing. The snow certainly adds something to the scene and frames the colours brilliantly. Nice filming too, all the best, Paul
When the boiler cools and the steam condenses back to water, how is air let into the boiler to release the vacuum created? Is this done or are the boilers strong enough not to implode as the vacuum develops?
There isn't a vacuum in the boiler per se. There is a combination of steam, air and water. The vacuum is created in the smokebox and this draws air through the firefox to aid combustion which creates the pressurised steam.
Excellent video; composition, framing, audio all very good indeed. Might I make one constructive suggestion? I'd like the tiniest bit of fade between scenes instead of the jump cut style. I think that would suit the subject rsrher better. In any case , thanks for providing the uploads.
At least you let us comment unlike the GCR youtube channel. Trains and snow just seem to go together. Maybe its because of the white steam that makes it look like they are puffing out clouds of snow, lol.
Makes you wonder doesn't it how a steam railway can operate in a foot of snow yet the national network grinds to a halt when there is a few cm of snow on the ground 😂 old is gold
@@nymrfootage Thanks. I know the caption said that but thought I would check. I was just surprised that such great footage took so long to be uploaded!
it was snowing on the island of sodor . those steam trains are in mint condition yer great to keep them its like being in the 1950s again. here in ireland theirs fuck all cos they demolished the steam trains the fuckers over greed. hope to come there when all this covid crap is gone.

A Wonderful capture !!! Superbly presented Excellent locations. :-) x.
Whoever couldn’t enjoy the spectacle, of steam in wintry snow, has no soul. Gorgeous stuff.
Maybe the person who disliked the footage is jealous because the footage is excellent.
Agreed
Now that is definitely a winter wonderland.!! Fantastic.
Don’t know which I enjoyed the most, the steam shots or the sunset shots. No, both are terrific, thank you.
Snow + trains = heaven on earth
Great filming. I'm imagining the Midford valley on the Somerset & Dorset in the winter of 1963!
Superb photography.
Great footage, greetings from Brazil.
Absolutely gorgeous scenery. The only surprise is that the booked passengers could get to the station at all. I would have loved to have been there.

The only thing you need on the winter is a steamer ;)
Excellent footage there Iain. Sun, Snow and Steam the perfect combination. Hard to believe that was over 10 years ago?

Steam nothing stops them not like today all diesel no power.
Outstanding video and audio!! But there are too many damned adverts!!
Where does NYMR get it's coal from? And what is it's carbon footprint rated as?
Doest it runs on v coal or diesel?
All our steam locos run on coal
@@nymrfootage ohh...nice...but why not on diesel?
@@vaibhavtandon3572 Why would you run a steam loco on diesel?
@@MrPaulfrazer ohh...means loco only runs on Coal...
@@vaibhavtandon3572 Well, in some countries they ran them on heavy oil but in the UK always on coal as far as I am aware.
Is this 2010 or 2020?
2010. The year we had a couple of weeks on snow and freezing temperatures.

@@thesolitarycyclist9005 Going through the archives and uploading a few clips during lockdown.
NYMR service has been delays or postponed or cancelled because its pretty bad weather was stuck in snowfall since Christmas 2010.
