    Venous Development & Anomalies
    Venous development is a complex process that begins in the early embryonic stages and involves the formation of major veins from the primitive vascular plexus. Key structures such as the vitelline veins, umbilical veins, and cardinal veins evolve to form the mature venous system. The vitelline veins contribute to the portal system, while the umbilical veins degenerate, with the left umbilical vein forming the ligamentum teres hepatis. The cardinal veins are crucial in forming the superior and inferior vena cava. Anomalies in venous development can lead to clinically significant conditions such as persistent left superior vena cava, double inferior vena cava, and azygos continuation of the inferior vena cava. Understanding these anomalies is vital for diagnosing and managing congenital heart diseases and vascular disorders. Early detection and intervention can prevent complications, ensuring better outcomes for patients.
