Heavy rains caused flooding of the San Jacinto River in Houston. The current ripped a couple barges loose which then went downstream and hit the I-10 Bridge. The barge did considerable damage, is still stuck under the bridge and I-10 is closed.
Drone video goes under bridge and shows extent of damage.
That's some mad drone flying skill there!
That's some great views of some SERIOUS damage. Thanks
Whoever flying that drone is s damn good expert. Great maneuver
The one thumbs down must be from someone affliated with those barges!
I live just over this bridge to the east and it was such a pain in the ass to get home. Rough times for everyone.
This has added to my daily struggle. Changed jobs to cut my commute down and 2 days later this happens. Now what should take me 20 minutes to get home take almost 2 hours. Im from Houston and all I seen in my 50 year has been , traffic , construction , and flooding. Sick and tired of it already.
Second time this happened in less than a year the media never said who was responsible for it why does this keep happening an finally what is the coast guard going to do to prevent this from happening again those responsible should pay for repairs instead of the tax payers
I'm a Houstonian born & raised (living in FL for 24 yrs now). It hurts my heart to see this city & surrounding areas so devastated and only 2 yrs after yet another horrible hurricane. I think Mother Earth is VERY angry. I lived in the Northshore area just off I-10 @ Uvalde Rd.. I bet it is floating. WOW. So sorry. Hey are you kin to Red Adair?
Oh My 🙀 that’s crazy ... Great footage as always 🙏
Houston we got problems
Awesome footage man. Congrats of showing, sharing, and flying. ! 👍🙏🇺🇸
Looks like the bridge buckled where those supports are damaged
great drone pilots
Yikes that's some pretty bad damage. Great shot man!
Thanks for the footage Brandon! -Hugs
as they say....a picture is worth a thousand words......well done
500 of those words being "well" and the other 500 being "shit".
Awesome drone video
This is some spectacular drone footage.
What a pilot
The resolution is amazing! Must be a 4K camera on it.
They just fixed that exact same section of the bridge a few months ago. The concrete (interior) is probably just drying, curing to be strong, and settling after these few months. I think we're done till early 2020 at best. Spring 2020 is probably optimistically realistic.
Such a major hwy to be shut down for a year! God bless the Houston metro area! Traffic was already insane there!
if those barges had hit something else as well as the bridge, then why do they have buoys out there? wow that river looks pretty muddy and stirred up. pretty crazy! Good drone shots.
Tropical Storm Imelda caused flooding in the area and likely messed with the currents a bit with the surge of rainwater.
Barges are slow movers like a fat dude on an inner tube on a lazy river. Usually they're easy to control if the currents are mellow.
@@rabidseabee7229 Yeah, just crazy, people were rescued and everything wow, well in Canada we get a lot of rain, and our rivers get high like that in the winter too, but its rare that stuff happens. sorry to hear.
The orange buoys are from a government super site fund where there are pollutions going into the water. As for the look of the river...it always looks muddy but the current is rougher due to the storms and flooding.
@@aerskins3 looks like our Fraser River after a solid rain, sediment gets stirred, that's a shame about the pollution, I hope they figure out how to get it out. Thanks for replying.Amazing drone footage in any case.
Thanks for posting this.
Heartbreaking! Keeping those in Gulf Coast in fervent prayer.🙏
Very nice video and flying!
Outstanding video. Thank you,
What a mess! Thanks.
Amazing footage.
Appreciate your footage, MSM don’t do it
No quick drive to NOLA anymore from Houston/Austin. Gotta go thru Shreveport now?
did it break loose in the high water or were they trying to move them and lost control?
The barge company should be sued into bankruptcy for the damages and inconveniency it will cause drivers for months to come. Drive time from Beaumont, Tx to Houston, Tx just went from 2 hours to 4 hours!
Drove from Houston to Lake Charles and back today. It was hell
Ugh.
What COULD make a difference, going forward, is if the "Dolphins" (the round structures located inbound the bridge) be made in closer proximity to each other, as to better prevent ANY large structure from making it to the bridge. Also, those Dolphins, as I recall, were created for deterrence of incident during the slight traffic of that time. Now with the San Jacinto River Fleet located just inbound, the risk has increased for damage. The NEXT design of the NEW Dolphins SHALL become a better representation. The need for something better is now firmly proven.
what refinery is that in the distance?
How are protective Pylons not put in front of these support pylons to prevent anything from hitting them
No one is talking about the big round hollow structure in front of the bridge that is all pushed in. That's an EPA super fund toxic waste site. I wonder how that's affecting the river and how much that's going to cost to cover back up.
That big round hollow thing is just a circle of steel sheets driven into the bed filled with rocks.
The big round steel structure is known as a “cell”. It is there to protect thne bridge from collisions. It is obviously not very well constructed, as these barges were not under any power when they hit this bridge, only being swept along by the river current. And as can be seen, this is not the first time this sort of thing has happened; that’s why those cells are there. You can also see that the bridge has had extra steel added, likely to reinforce it from an earlier incident.
@@robertreynolds4117 I'm a river guy so I was just trying to make it easier for people to understand lol. You would have thought they would have put a dolphin or a monopile outside of that cell. You're right about it not being well constructed. Look outside any lock and you'll see them jacked up, but not this bad.
@@robertreynolds4117 Evidently the current was extremely powerful. Barges being powered by "hydro power" for sure. No idea what the gallons per minute were, but I'm sure really high.
This added 3 hours to my commute SMH.
When you take into consideration all of the disasters that have happened since September 2017, the cost of all this damage must be outrageous, and that is just the damage to infrastructure, not even talking about people's homes, and the cost of aid to take care of all of these displaced people. Really makes you wonder where are they all at!?
Wow!
Man it took me 30 minutes to get home wen this hapoen it took me 2 hours to get home crazy time well got fire for not getting on time thanks to this
So it’s interesting that it hit the pilings that just got fixed. Those were brand new. Not more than a month old. Not intentional, of that I’m sure. Just weird. I’ve lived on this bay now for 16 years. And Kirby marine has always had an exemplary safety record. This kind of crap just happens in big storms on the water.
De'ja'vu, over and over again! The town could have been reminded about the last 2 barges having done the same thing because they weren't secured. Their movies or play's are starting to fulfill the "ground hog day" boring nightmare!
That's crazy
It's negligence. Plain and simple.
I 10 is out of commission the barges look a miss of ropes it could have.
I got a feeling they are betting on that job already which it will require a good amount of time...
Update video please
Lake Charles Casinos profit will suffer ;)
And my pockets will stay fuller
That bridge got hit & damaged by a barge twice in one year.
Wonder how much this will cost ? Hope they've got good insurance !!
Well this definetly outs that part of I-10 out of business. Hope all you Truckers find a short way around this Chaos. It'll be a while before this opens up for travel. Bummer
According to Drive Texas, that section of I-10 should be opened back up by September 30. Now, it's not going to be the side with the columns missing..that kind of repair will take months to do. They will likely reconfigure the other span to handle both directions, which will reduce the lane count in both directions.
This could be the opening shot of the Sci Fi movie [insert dystopian soundtrack of your choosing], before we're introduced to the small band of earthlings cut off from the rest of "society."
Those look like fuel barges, & they appear to be empty [unloaded]
Glad to hear that
Al, Quite the opposite... the barges under the bridge are sitting very low in the water and are without a doubt COMPLETELY full. I live upstream from this bridge and drive my boats by these exact barges dozens of times a year.... if it were empty then it would be sitting about 6 feet higher in the water!
@@ZwickAdventures I can live with that comment. I could be wrong..
Also, I have no idea what this one is carrying... They label some of them with the chemical being carried, but I couldn't spot any label or hazmat placard on this one. The barges down there carry everything from fuel oil to benzene so there's no telling what this one has on board...
@@ZwickAdventures Six of the barges have been corralled for transport to fleet areas. They include:
Ingram Barge Company: IB1927 containing soybean oil
IB1985 containing soybean oil
IB1960 containing soybean oil
IB1954 containing soybean oil
IB9123 containing caustic soda
Canal Barge Company: CBC1406 containing lube oil
Two of the barges are currently lodged beneath the I-10 San Jacinto River Bridge. These barges include:
Canal Barge Company: CBC1403 containing naptha
CBC193 containing monoethylene glycol
One of the barges is currently beached on a mud flat north of the bridge. This barge is CBC1407 containing lube oil.
oof
Ooohhhhh boy I10 will be closed for months.
No i10
HAARP
Wow!
wow!
