Ahhh my new Dutch word for the week, LUL! Google translates it to cock BUT dick is a synonym, SO good enough! Thanks, guys.
Is it also possible to get this package for European people?
Is this only for US market? Because I can't see there option to select voltage variant. US appliances working on 120V and European works on 220V.
@@drobecdao Yes probably, when you try to order it you can only select American regions
@@drobecdao sadly for now it is. We tried getting EU dealers to participate but the timeframe was too short for then
This dang episode has like a Quentin Tarrantino movie timeline.
😂
Martin's cooking is getting better. He'll make someone a fine wife someday. That steak looked awesome.
Hello DBK; Awsome video; and awsome test (and steak should be red inside).
S600 is a way old Böhler steel; and is basically M-2 HSS; which is used a lot for metal drills, bandsaws, reamers, milling cutters ... The reason knifemakers don't like it is the heat treatment (up to 1200°C in a vacuum ) and it's an air-hardening steel; so one screw-up; and it hardens and bends itself right there. If ER got the heat treatment dialed in nicely, and the barrel test seems to confirm that, than it should actually make a really nice steel; and be indeed a LOT tougher than N690CO. It won't be as stainless; but this steel develops a really nice dark surface patina. This still is very fine-grained, but sensitive to stress fatigue; and it doesn't bend like normal carbon steel; it just suddenly snaps. If you were to shoot it with the PCP airrifle; after a couple shots I predict you'll be shooting parts of the cutting edge off.
With steaks like flat iron, you want it to cook through so the collagen softens. Steaks like fillet mignon or ribeye don't have much collagen in them, so they're nice and tender even raw, but cheaper (better value) cuts like flat iron all need to be cooked through--at least medium rare. You can see the white bits inside the undercooked steak that mikkie was chewing on.
Awesome job keep them coming
S600 is pretty much just Bohler -Uddeholm's version of old M2 with a pinch of Cobalt and Nickel added. I EDC'd an Enzo trapper in M2 for a couple years and was not impressed with the edge retention and hated how hard it was to sharpen.
A couple years is a long time to EDC a knife you hate or at the very least, doesn’t impress you. Why did you carry it so long?
@@itsawonderfulknife7031 ----- Because it was my first "good knife" and up until then it was the "best" steel I had owned.
@@scotscheideman9800 Ah I see. I was genuinely interested and thank you for not seeing that comment like I was trying to be a dick about it. Lol.
Yes i feel you: The lure of the "Best, newest modern, Super steel" and it is not useful in REAL life. It is just a keyboard warrior thing. More "simple" steels are more practical in real daily life.
But it's not Böhler.
There is a german guy on youtube, called Anders schärfen, doing videos all about sharpening. He uses at least 4 grids of Leather after sharpening.
He had a video of a Doberman a year ago and said it was the first knife he didn't have to sharpen out of the box.
With a factory angle of 25 - 30 and a big knife like this he had it at 104 (i think) at the sharpness test.
He said he was probably just very lucky that the guy at extrema ratio sharpening his knife must done a perfect job.
Everybody has a preference on the different sizes they would like to take and use so its good that both can do well. If your a big ogre or need some of that chopping ability mixed in with being able to survive with its great to take on the Selvans. With the Dobermann. Its good for those that like to stay lighter on the go but still want to do those big tasks in case its needed. I got all the knives I need but its good to still watch the latest knives out there.
I have never heard of s600 before. This will be interesting
Been loving my 8670 steel recently, it may be "just another" carbon steel, but holy shit does it hold an edge. Bryan Baker's company, Svord, does impeccable heat treatment on their blades.
Great video fellas. The Extrema Ratio are definitely Grail Knives 🇳🇱 🇮🇹 🇳🇿
DBK finally! 🙌🏽
the s600 is more homogeneous and has a smaller size of carbides, so that when sharpening to a thinner breakage it will give a better result, of course it is better to use diamonds for roughing, becouse s600 have a lot of tungsten carbide, but according to knife steel nerd's tests, the s600 and n690 should have approximately equal edge resistance
Pretty sure the course grit belt from ken onion is softer than the knife, which is why it seemed to take so long, abrasives either sharpen or they dont. Its not a matter of speed
I can promise you after 5 min that sanding belt was done. I have same issue with 3v. I've learned after a few minutes of sharpening replace belt with fresh or you're going to be there all day lol.
Mickie the Time Travelling Bard lol
As practice shows, knives with such high hardness are best sharpened with soft ceramic stones. Mechanical sharpening on a belt can damage the cutting edge and tear out the hard carbides from the steel, so the cutting edge will only have soft iron without the hard carbides. The same effect is observed when sharpening a knife with diamond stones.
I sharpen my knives with a feather so nothing gets damaged.
No...the ceramic worn out very fast. .with my other knives .the ceramic stayed harmless
I don't think carbide tear out actually happens. All the evidence I've seen shows this to be a myth. I haven't actually seen any evidence of carbide tear out happening. Do you have any you can share? It seems all anecdotal and theoretical at this point which is far from conclusive as it's very subjective and not subject to any scrutiny.
That said, diamond and CBN are better abrasives for harder steels for sure.
Sintered Ceramic is ok but it has its own set of problems and it's also not harder than the carbides so if carbide tear out did happen, it could cause it too just as aluminum oxide or natural stones would. So "soft ceramic" (like what?) wouldn't help any.
Bruh I thought extrema ratio was an hyper american brand like RAHHHH WTF IS A KILOMETER 🦅🦅🦅🦅🇺🇲🇺🇸🇺🇲🇺🇸🇺🇲🇺🇸🇺🇲
A kilometre is 1000 metres. 1 metre is 1000milimeters or 100 centimetres
@@izaacbanks3337I’m certain that was sarcasm. Haha. Nice of you to help him either way
@@03Grunt-arrino yeah I know. Just showing how simple the metric system is haha
@@izaacbanks3337 Well done indeed sir. Haha
Dude you use cheeseburgers per toe length as a measurement system, just bow down as inferiors already.
This was like watching a knife-based Tarantino movie
Finally, been hoping for this
Me about to write a comment about "let's go back again into the past but not so far, so between this and that" and you dropping "C'mon guys stay sharp, stay with me":
I completely lost it XDDDDDD
Great vid guys, I'm an N690 fanboy so I'm always delighted to see you test it.
S600 "should" have excellent edge retention along with toughness - I know everyone is saying that its an old steel, but its got 1.8% Vanadium and 6.2% Tungstun in the mix....... they're not to be sneezed at.
It has to be a geometry and heat treat issue surely??
Keep up the good work chaps.
Bloody ugly knives
However my favorites are the Fulcrum and the Tuscan, the Doberman is also beautiful
We're is the big mussely hammer guy I want to see the old guys return like boras the dutch Russian and general mikiy I subs because of them
I love a Good Heated Review, Well Done DBK 😎
I love the Selvans but i just wish they did the sheath in Multicam
Thanks as always. Great video. 🔪🎸
S600 is pretty difficult to sharpen, it's very hard, maybe too hard. I have both, and I suggest the N690co version. sharpens easily, quickly, and you can't beat a 58 HRC in a forest. S600 is 64 HRC and almost impossible to resharpen on field. Plus, Extrema Ratio is very well experienced in working N690 Bohler, they introduced S600 with the "Satre" model which is relatively new in their line.
Nice first time travel vid ...
Got my head turning !
So competitive you 2 absolutely crack me up without the crack 😂😂😂😅
Test the Victorinox Venture Pro "bushcraft knife"!!
Have Doberman IV in N690Co version, love it for it's ugliness but to be honest did not find good use for it. Had to resharpen & reprofile it and still it lies in knife box. Like how cool it looks but in forest... nah :) Still thinking if i should invest into Selvans. Maybe there are people who use Doberman daily and could share their opinions?
KNIIIIIIVEEEEESSSSSS!
Bellissimo una vera bestia !!
I’m in the process of modifying my Selvans. Sharpening choil added, polished spine, flats and cutting edge, Scotch Brite main grind. Dave Brown Kydex sheath in Vietnam tiger stripe. It’s gonna be sweet!
This knife always intrigued me. Is it thick behind the edge?
Hope you post of video of it after you finish modifying it! Sounds like it'll look amazing!
Top video chaps! Knifes not for me but enjoyable watching. Love from the
UK.
appreciate it my friend!
Good god extreme ratio still stomping out the competition
Propper abrasives are needed to sharpen hard steels.
This knife looks good, but i like my esee 5 and for a smaller knife, gonna get your guys knife (when it’s available again)
Extrema Ratio also made the dobermann in N690 !!
M2/S600 has around 7% TUNGSTEN by mass. 😱
I demand at least 3 DBKs per week!
that would kill me hahaa!
Nice job on video!! Dam nice job on cooking up that steak, done perfectly!!!! Knives look pretty cool looking!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🪓🔪👍👍
I personally think that knife is sexy af but I prefer their n690. Softer steels will always be king for heavy duty use knives
The S600 steel “should” be able to get sharper than n690, especially being a high speed tool steel
@@matthewkuhl79 yes it gets very sharp, just like VG10 or VG1
m05 gloves spotted :)
Can you like test more carbon steels maybe? Because you can sharpen them very easily and the "extra care" is really, really worth it!
All the steels they test are carbon steels - it's just that some have more chromium than others.
I'm fan... Old 5160, make any job.
I have heard hear say that N690 is like VG10. S600 they make drill bits out of. So pretty tough high speed steel is what I read.
that flat iron steak was done ok, but it needs to be cut a certain way! against the grain, and on a bias.
Do it again, buy a meat thermometer :D
But cut it diagonally against the grain, you'll be blown away :D
This was like watching Tenet
Dobbermann for years is available with the standard N690 from Extrema.
10:36 make him say your name some more, Mar 10
I didn't expect the doberman to be part beaver... That dog eats wood!
My Thursday entertainment has arrived. Hope you can review the EXTREMA RATIO Corvo next!
Extrema ratio had that design language like microtech and some other American brands. I like them allot. But I let my inner 12 year old run wild. 🤘🏽
S600 is a well known HSS, but the heat treat and design is what matters.
2:27 You are welcome.
Mount the handle from the Selvans onto the Doberman. For me, a GameChanger. More power, more grip options
Agreed! And it looks better too!
I love my work shap stuff!
I from spain my knife is the nieto chaman xxl g10 690co, it is the best knife in the World.
You have to try the knife.
A good vet could get that back on its feet !!
can you guys test a joker knives cuello avispa?
How good is it at making bushcraft Rambo Burgers? Or Neapolitan Pizza?
Hope you do Canada's best knife. Definitely either the Grohmann #1 Original or the #4 Survival.
so this is stil a prototype?
maybe they have some production or sharpening issues but then they should have fixed them before they send it out to youtubers
or maybe they use your feedback to handle the problems
which i would hope
great video love you two
Please make a video, on the Gerber fastball.
I feel like a time traveller and lost in a time loop.
Have you guys done the Demko Free Reign in…….MAGNACUT?????
When you're making 35 cuts. 10sec each adds up for sure
Mickey has to learn how to sharpen and especially to strop! Greetings guys
You guys tested a Kukri by now, right? Right!?
They are used by Italian special forces, such as Incursori
Non questo modello se non sbaglio
@@paul9659hai ragione, però usano questa marca
Great video again lovely dudes.
Try to test a ROG puuko or the bushcraft. The geometry of the blade is insane
Damn Maarten should really sing more in Mikeys band that was beautiful
They, ER, should have gone for K390.
Awesome job guys and always love to see you guys testing something different. Btw can I please ask about the pants you guys wear? I’ve seen you guys wear them in few videos and can’t figure out what brand it is. Please let me know when you get a chance. Thank you!!!
You guys should try out a kukri from kailash blades!
eyetalians don't usually do al dente steel....
But Mikki I already have the work sharp with blade grind attachment, bought it long time ago when I saw you guys using it all the time in videos.....
Well I hold my head in shame I didn’t watch you two lunatics till nearly 22 hours after you uploaded the video 🤦🏻 that might of had something to do with my head bouncing in and out of the toilet 🤮🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃🤮 but I’m up to speed now I’m not really sure what to think of the Labrador 🤔 lol it just seems to have a key factor missing that edge retention as for all the rest it seemed to rock on throughout. I must say Maarten when you just said xxxx xx and went for the barrel I was laughing my arse off. You two have a beautiful day and as always stay safe and healthy until your next instalment 🫵😘👍
great knife but il go a bit for the looks to so im happy with my leuku or f1. any idea when you guys will start crowd fund for the DBK budget knive? my little brother is in love with my DBK knive 😄
If the prototype does well I think we'll launch it without kickstarter. We saved up for the project!
@@DutchBushcraftKnives okey great! Ik keep my eyes out 😊
5star
Did I miss the pricing for these or did you not say?
Just casually sharpening a Lander like we wouldn't notice...
I guess Christopher Nolan is directing UA-cam videos during the strike to make ends meet.
Damn. Got to buy another knife.
You bastards always make me hungry when watching… Great video as always ❤
Top stuff guys👍👍😎😎😂😂
will you guys do a food channel already lol
What are the gloves you guys use? Thanks!
Mechanix
Have you ever thought of making a video of ANV products, like the M311 in Elmax?
who knows! I have a few of their knives but all in sleipner
S600 is pretty much M2 high speed steel. It's ok and 64hrc is nice but there are so much better steels out there. K328 which is like A8mod is a nice choice.
Are knife coatings unsafe for health when used for food preparation?
No
I did not have time to watch all dramatics theatre of this one. But I do not find any specs on this knife tang construction. I suspect it is not a full tang!? If that is the case, Im not considering it for survival use.
Etrama ratio Tuscan, è il top!, ma costa 400.00 €
Terävä skrama 240 80.00 € e fa le stesse cose, e riaffilarli in un campo è molto più facile
I would love for you guys to do a review of the “BUSSEE COMBAT” Battle Mistress. I is a total Bad A$$
Hey boys. As usual, another amazing review even if it felt like i was watching "Back to the future". Seriously, i had to watch it twice but in my defence, i just woke up. Anyway, i just got my selvans 5 days ago and you and your 2011 video were the motivation behing this purchace. It's ugly af but I LOVE IT. Did you change it's angle tho? I'm thinking of regrinding it to around 25deg. Should i go for it?
PS. Mikkie, you need a haircut you handsome bastard.
My takeaway...
You guys have some really old rifle cartridges!
