I just bought a Thousand helmet for all the reasons you mentioned. What is especially important about this video is the short clip of the skateboarder falling and whacking his head and exclaiming “I love helmets!” Don’t think it won’t happen to you.
I suspect they had to put the word OPEN on the buckle for regulatory reasons. Imagine this scenario: You're hit by a car, unconscious under the car the EMTs or bystanders try to help you but your helmet is wedged in so they need to take it off to get you out but it's got some weird-ass buckle on it that they can't get to open. Hence the instructional text.
They will just cut straps

Mine didn’t come with extra padding or a thank you card in the box. It did come with the bag and a user manual. Did they change something or do I need to go back to the store?
I have one, in blue. It actually does make you look a bit like someone from Spaceballs. Still, good helmet, love the magnetic buckle and pop lock.
Teo P yeah, definitely a look you need to get used to! But yeah same here, I love the magnetic buckle, makes taking it off so easy!

I want a helmet but I can't try them on before I buy and I don't have $80+ for a good certified helmet.

Given that 'vegan leather' is made from plastic and so oil it's hardly more green than using real leather.
Looks very hot. A stylish looking helmet that makes you sweat heavier is not very stylish
But I wish it was 90 dollars
PSA: Regular bike and skate helmets are one-time-use products (I can't speak for motorbike helmets, I don't know how they are made)! With that I mean that they are made to save you from one fall, not several. If you fall and hit your head hard the foam in the helmet will most likely save you, compressing and/or cracking and in doing so sacrificing itself.
It won't protect you as good next time. If the fall is as hard as the dude in the video who fell on his skateboard you should for sure replace your helmet.

its not leather if its vegan only thing that can be called leather is animal skin but i do prefer fake leather
