- The start to a busy week in the packing house. We have 6 trail loads this week. Check out how many potatoes we start the week with in storage and see where we end the week in the next video!
There's more to being a potato farmer than I realized.
You certainly work hard Molly. Shane's lucky to have picked such a great life partner. You're smile certainly brightens a person's day !
😁thank you. I’m not sure if he picked me or I picked him. But we make a good team that’s for sure! Thank you for watching our farming videos.
Another great video, Molly. Thanks to you and the entire crew for all the hard work that yall put into feeding America. Without farmers, a lot of people would starve.
Thank you so much for watching :) 💚
Great video! I really appreciate the detailed description of the equipment that's needed and how it all needs to work together. Who can watch this video and not hit the like button?
Awesome thank you! 😊
I love how at the end of a hard day of work you still manage to have a smile on the news!
Thank you. I truly love farming.
damn that is a pretty fancy potato sorter... grandma always just said IF ITSN'T REALLY GREEN.... THROW IT IN THE BASKET,... WHEN WE GET TO THE HOUSE YOU WILL WASH THEM,.. AND THEN YOU CHILDREN CAN PEEL THEM AND WE WILL HAVE THEM FOR DINNER. We were the machine.... glad potato harvesting came a long way from fork to sorting to bagging to table. growing up i sure could have used this hahahaha. But then if i had that i wouldn't be the builder designer hard worker i am today. As always awesome!!!... learning is my most favorite thing to do even as an elder... so much and that is my thing always to better myself and hopefully other people. thank you sooooo much for sharing.
Thank you very much for watching!
That was awesome. Thanks to you, Shane, and the rest of the team for making this happen.
I’m so glad you liked this video! I will let them know 😁
Thanks for sharing love the content, Bessie!! Potato therapy dog! 🐕
Haha I like that! She is awesome!!
Fascinating as always. Always love seeing the process from field to table.
Thank you again for watching 😊I’m excited to get out in the fields soon
Another outstanding post , really enjoy every bit of what’s going on over there. Every time I’m in the grocery store and I see a bag of potatoes I think of you and your tremendous operation.
Oh cool! Thank you so much for watching our farm, and thinking of me when you see potatoes! 💚
I love the contrast between your packing setup and The Veggie Boys. Both interesting and different accents too. 🙂
Yes! We watch them too!
Hi Molly it truly amazing how many tators you process in a day, you folks deserve much credit for what you do for us… Thank you..
You’re sooo easy to look at makes it that much easier ⏳😏
The volume is a lot. Thankfully most weeks we are not that straight out busy. It would be hard to get anything else done if we only packed taters! Thank you for the compliment😊
Plain and simple, good stuff from great people! Be proud of who you are!
Thank you very much Tim! We sure are proud! 💚
❤❤❤ enjoy your videos so much. Thank you for all you and family do Molly. Sending love ❤️
Thank you so much for watching :) I’m so glad you enjoy the channel. I appreciate your comments and support 💚😊
thanks for the video,
This is fascinating on many levels. First, I work in the office of a shop where we manufacture steel rule dies. The lasers and waterjet machines are calibrated daily and warm up for the day. You do the same for the lines to bag potatoes. And then to see how many kinds of potatoes and their outcomes (Large bins, 20 lb bags, 5 lb bags) With sped up footage, you have the fastest shrinkwrappers in the NE!.
Hahaha I’m glad you liked the video! Thank you
Molly you make the very best videos. Thankyou! I❤spuds.
Thank you! Not a lot of potato videos out there.
Always look forward to your videos. It’s the highlight of my day
That’s awesome! Thank you so much for watching! I have a few that will come out in the next couple days. We such a busy week I wasn’t able to get one out mid week 💚
I can't wait until you guys have a busy week..... joke! Every day, every week, every month of the year you guys are at full throttle! Good on ya!
Hahah yes that’s the truth lol. It gets busier though!
Molly and Shane, thanks for showing the details of replacing a belt lacing. Five trucks will take the pile down to almost no spuds left in the shed. Blessings to you all.
Thank you bill!
Impressed with the fork truck drivers collecting from the store. There are no dents on the door from the form lift mast. Not much room to work. Always good to eventually see the back wall of any store.
Yeah Raymond is a great driver. Thanks for watching!
What an interesting video. While a good portion of the potato processing and packing is automated, there is still a fair amount of manual work involved. No gym memberships required for your employees. This was fascinating to watch.
Thank you! Yeah most of us stay in pretty good shape moving taters around haha thanks for watching.
youre the heart beat of the operation by the looks of it, keeping busy 🪨
Actually Shane is :) but I try and insert myself everywhere I can. I have so much to learn.
keep up the good work, those machines require lots of love and lubrication😘@@BellsFarming
Looks like your hiding a couple of potatoes, sorry I know it’s a naff joke but I couldn’t help it ! Great videos by the way.
I have been inspired. Got a potato in the oven right now!
Yum!
Thanks for the video!🐾
Five loads going out. CHA-CHING. $$ 👍. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah it needed up being 6! Next video coming out hopefully Monday :)
Hard working and feeding America. Thank you!
Thank you.
Another wonderful video, I always love your potato videos and I am fascinated by that stitching machine for the bags and how that thing works, keep up the great work and have a happy weekend
Thank you Darren! I love these ones too. I know it’s repetitive. But it’s still fun to watch in my opinion:) have a good weekend.
@@BellsFarming Thank you
Such a cool process. Great video Molly! Hope no injuries and a great week of bagging those potatoes!
Thank you! It really went great!
Keep up the good work
Thank you.
Interesting as always. Thanks.
Thank you!
Look at those beautiful chef tators What a nice grader !
great channel thanks i love this xx
Thank you!
Just like in the Godfather 3, just when you thought you were out, they pull you back in! Lol it’s a never ending potato packing! Lol great video as always! You do a great job explaining the process!
One day we will be done with this potato crop, hahah I can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel. The taters definitely keep us busy through the winter. I’m ready for tractor work though!
Editing and production skills have jumped the right direction! A+ Molly!!! 👍🏻👍🏻😎😎😎
Thank you very much!
Look at those beautiful potatoes, you make everything look so easy. Great job as usual..
Thank you!
Love all your videos but the potato packing are my fav!!
Thank you! They are fun to watch!
Great job you two
Shane is a very lucky man to have a great partner like you to help
Love your videos
Thank you very much for watching.
Thanks for the update later girl.❤️😎🇺🇸
Thank you!
Lovely as ever… oh… yeah… umm and great job with the potatoes
Thank you mark!
The packing house is a busy place. Thank you for allowing us to visit. I was wishing you would stop for a moment and show the finished product a little closer. Kinda nice to see the end results. Betsy is so funny, being part of the action.
Hahah she is great. Would you like to see the finished bagged potatoes?
@@BellsFarming I think it is educational to see the graded potatoes and to explain the differences in a general way, Molly. Perhaps a dozen of each grade on a table side-by-side so we can look closely. Emphasizing that you tailor your finished product to your customers’ preferences.
Another Great Video 👍 Great content, keep up the great work!
Thank you very much! I’m glad you are still watching :)
Great job ❤, So much goes on behind the scenes 😮😮, You guys are all amazing hard working people ❤, thank you for making our Food ❤
Thank you very much 💚
Molly always great to see your video.
Thank you Joseph!
Wow at the end of the day I bet all of the crew sleeps well, thank you for an interesting and educational video
I know I do! Haha thanks for watching 😊
Let it rip Potato Chip !!
Love the bagging operation!
😁
i cant believe how many potatoes you guy can process in one day.always fun to watch .FT
Yeah that day we packed 31 pallets! It was a very productive day. We usually do not pack that many in a normal day. Usually it’s 22. Love you
Great video!
Thank you Phillip!
i`ve only been to maine enroute to my brother`s summer house in nova scotia... ( to the ferry in portland) thanks for the enlightening videos of your farms... quite a difference from texas..
I have never been to Texas! Thanks for watching 😊
Love your videos so thanks for sharing. I can’t help thinking you deserve a calf-mascot from the ranch several videos back. Potatoes and a happy cow……just say’in.
I’m liking the sound of that… great idea 😁😊
crazy stuff for sure
Them are nice.
Fun content to watch. Makes you appreciate how much time and effort goes into this product.
Thank you! I love watching the time laps potato stuff!
Another great video! Out of the 40+ youtubers I follow, you are in my top 3 that I consistently follow and anticipate watching, both for your great videography and content!👍
That’s awesome John! Thank you
Very much for telling me that. I’m so glad you enjoy the channel! When I hear feedback like this makes me even more excited to make videos! 💚😊
@@BellsFarming yes don't stop!👍😊
@@John-jg5dhthank you!!
Really informative detailed video. What an awesome operation. Still want to sell you bags for these potatoes. Be well.
Hey David. We are currently using northeast packaging out of Maine for our bags. We have tried other bag companies in the past and it hasn’t worked out for us. They would not run well on our bagging machine. We are a little skeptical on trying new bags again. We ended up have to throw away most of the ones we purchased unfortunately.
@@BellsFarming Understood. I am aware of the challenges that bagging potatoes comes with. Nothing worse than bags failing on the line in operation. Not sure if we can be competitive in price but certain our bags would not fail. Your videos are very informative. Keep up the great work you guys do there. Thanks.
Good videos.
Thank you!
Great video as usual. Great work. A well equipped and clean packing plant
Thank you very much! You aren’t sick of potatoes yet?
A great place you Shane have.
@@chuckyc6912thank you, it’s been years in the making. Every few years we get to upgrade a piece of equipment.
Packing potatoes will keep you in shape
Do you grow different types of potatoes, like red. Also do you ever run out of potatoes before the next harvest
Bessy is the best
Yes we do stay in pretty good shape stacking taters! We do grow yellows and occasionally red. Red don’t grow that well for us unfortunately. We do sometimes run out before next harvest. What we end up doing is buying some new potatoes from a farm that grows the same variety to keep our local customers going. The potatoes are not as good. But the local customers know they only have to have them for a short time. They are sold in that farms bags.
This tater joint is high tech!
Neat stuff!
Thank you! It’s been decades in the making.
Molly looking great as usual. Love the ag processing equipment. People don’t usually know how much technology is used in modern agriculture. I bet you guys are excited for spring and a new season.
Thanks! Yeah a lot of the time I tell people I’m a farmer and they assume I’m out playing in the dirt with my hands. I usually have to tell them it’s very industrialized. Lots of equipment. Thank you for commenting 😊
Yes, also looking forward to spring and to be done with potatoes! Hahah
@@BellsFarming that’s for sure, they think it’s like it was 100 years ago.
Good evening Molly, I have seen your video of packaging potatoes from storage, I certainly understand for the factory or consumers or other farmers, it has been a busy week, Bessy is also sniffing around, and see you next
Thank you very much for watching us pack potatoes. Bessy says hellos 🐕
Damn that’s a lot of equipment!!! 😮
Yes it is! Thanks for watching.
Nice video..
Thank you for watching.
Busy !!! Can't get into trouble that way.
Haha yeah no time for trouble
Yes your videos are enjoyable. They all are. Each time you share one is amazing how much work goes into the process of potatoes bagging. Must be nice to spend and work some in side out of the cold? Huh? You and your team have a good day Miss Molly.
Thank you! I enjoy working inside and outside. At this point I’m pretty tired of being inside looking at potato’s haha looking forward to spring tillage!
@BellsFarming I just watch a Trinity dairy video in Wisconsin. He's disking his corn ground already. But here in Michigan we have night crawlers out at night. With worms on the side walks already.
Wow! Yeah it won’t be too long here. The winter rye is starting to turn green again just after a couple days of sunshine.
Interesting to see technology I did not know existed being used to help on the farm !
It’s becoming a lot more automated! The work force is changing too. Thanks for watching!
Awesome Oppration
Thank you!
the logo on the chef bags would make a great design for a t-shirt!!
Haha yes I guess it would! Thanks for watching 😊
Your video quality is getting better every week!
Thank you! Always learning something!
Hi Bells Christmas tree snob here (uk) nice vid ❤
Haha thanks for still watching :)
You really keep in good shape Molly
Try to! I would like to live a long healthy life. Thanks for watching!
Awesome thumbnail. Nice taters.
Thanks for showing more of the operation. At what point do you start working the fields and planting potatoes?
Soon! I’m ready for it. We usually get in the tractor as soon as the ground is dry enough. April. Planting is usually end of April early May. We will be bagging out of the tote bags once a week for our local market after the big pile is off the ground. That is usually a hand full of totes at a time.
I bet that is a nosy place when everything is running. But I guess it is the sound of money. 👍👍
It is a bit noisy, certain areas are definitely louder than others. I wear earring protection when I’m in those areas for long periods of time.
Yes
I'm 63 this year. Learning how to pack potato's has been on my bucket list for a while. I missed it "What Kind of Bagger"?
The bagging machine is called a volm pack. Or one of us hahah
Pretty neat video and lots of hard work ❤❤
Thank you for watching :)
@@BellsFarming your very welcome, you guys do a great job!!
@@mikemorgan4726 thanks Mike
@@BellsFarming you all are very welcome
I'm learning stuff about potatoes I didn't know lol
HASHBROWN recipe lol Oh and i actually seen Dry guy smile ,lol
I know I have been slacking on any potato recipes
Hahah he actually smiles all the time! You guys only get to see a certain side of him 😅
Might be the best video yet!! Really liked the view from the bucket loader going in for the potato's!!
I love the time lapse potato footage. The bucket forklift is the best! I could follow ray on that thing all day haha
👍
Keep the videos coming
Thank you John!
Hey tater lady
I enjoyed this video very Very informative
😊glad you liked it. I sometimes think I talk too much. But I guess everyone has to listen to me to learn something :)
@BellsFarming you don't talk to much
The main reason why I watch is the talking and seeing what the tater life is like 😊😊😊
@BellsFarming send me a autograph 😊😊
@@deweypowell2684 thanks! I’ll stop being critical of myself haha
@@deweypowell2684haha I’m not famous lol. But if you send me your address I’ll send you one of my cards and I’ll sign it hahah there is a place on our website to send information. Don’t post it here.
Lot more technology involved then I thought there would be. Videos continue to get better each week.
Thank you!
That’s quite the process. What month do you replant and harvest?
We will plant the new crop late April/ early May. And we will harvest for storage in October. We do start harvesting the new crop of potatoes in late august for local fairs and restaurants. But we only harvest what we need for that week until the skins on the potatoes get think enough for long term storage.
Ok that is a lot of potatoes.
Yes we are getting to the end!
Love me those little taters! So awesome with some seasoning in the air fryer.
I haven’t tried air fryer yet!
Is all of this equipment custom made to order or are there different models for different capacities? Looking good out there.
Little bit of both, companies generally offer different size capacities, and generally built to your specifications, however we still end up modifying everything numerous times to get it the exact way we want it. We always say as soon as you get a piece of equipment exactly like you want it it’s time to replace it
Thanks for sharing another great video Molly, do you all do any hiring during packing season?
We do higher some help to count sweet corn in august. We have quite a few return. Workers who are home from school/collagen that work, and a few retired folks. I like to have. About 11 people in the summer
I live in Missouri and the potatoes we get at the store In the winter are beat up and ugly and lots of scares!
All that handling beats them up. I guess there is no other way with the quantity farmers handle.
There are a lot of factors that can make a potato cracked and dinged up. Handling, Also the price is one. The high quality potatoes will usually cost the grocery buyer more money. Some of them might only buy the cheapest ones too.
Molly, I always get tiny potatoes in my box of 40's, how do they slip by? Thanks for the Video!
Depending on who is bagging them, our machine does have some size errors. But that’s why one of us stands at the end to catch machine errors.
Or their minimum size allowed might be smaller too. :)
Thanks Molly:) @@BellsFarming
Makes me want salt potatoes tonight.
Yum!!
Hi Molly, great video you have some pretty high tech equipment,I grow some potateos and some bigger one are hollow, can you know if a potato is hollow.
On the high tech side there is an X-ray machine that can detect hollow heart. But other than that, not really. Hollow heart happens when the potato grows fast! Still good to eat.
I noticed while packing everyone moves very quickly to get the job done . You have a dedicated team.
Yes we are lucky. Everyone works hard, and for the same goal!
Nice big potatoes….
We grow some good potatoes 😋
@@BellsFarming I can tell😜
Look out guys, lady driver on the loose !!🤣🤣🤣
Hahah that’s right! Out of my way!
Question. Instead of spraying down the potatoes every time you take a shovel load, could you put in misters on the ceiling to keep the dust down?
Yes I’m sure some kind of spraying system could be set up. It would have to span the whole length of the packing houses. One of the thing about water usage on a farm, it all has to be monitored and clean. All the hoses and line have to be inspected because they are used with food. But I’ll ask Raymond if he has thought about doing something more hands free. Thank you for watching!! 😊
@@BellsFarming I didn't even think of regulations working around food. Adds a whole other level of difficulty.
@@GeneMatheneyyeah the food safety part does add another layer to farming. But it’s all for good reason.
Bell is so hot.. lol love the videos
Thanks for watching :)
Great video i must have missed you saying why do you wet potatoes
Thanks for watching! Ray wets the potatoes because it helps with the dust control, and it helps them slide into the bucket with light skinning the tater
Love your earrings please show them and explain them. Thanks
Thanks John
I see you are spraying down the pile before moving to hopper. Is that just a dust remediation thing or does it serve another purpose?
Dust and it helps the potatoes slide into the bucket with out skinning :)
