      What are farming magazines? The only magazines I use hold cylinders with precious metal tips......yes, pb is precious to me. The only calendar I use is the one on my phone where I can add in reminders for important dates or to keep track of things I have done. The videos are great.........we get to see her being a real woman, instead of just some pinup on a shop wall.

    I grew up on the Androscoggin River in the Rumford area in the 1970’s. Back then it was one of the most polluted rivers in the country due to the many paper mills discharging to it millions of gallons of untreated water daily. It used to be to smell so bad it literally would peel the paint off near by houses. It was this water condition that I decided to spend my life as a wastewater treatment operator and manager. I have been working in this occupation for the past 40 years.

    As a physicist with a background of electrical engineering, I am thoroughly impressed with you and husband and team with taking on such major projects like this. 65 years ago my father loaded me in our
    BorgWorg station wagon to go see the first system like yours in Canada. Balogna sandwiches, coffee, cigars and peanuts were loaded and we were off. Dad was a mining engineer and was very excited. It was a big event. Agriculture reps from as far as Japan were there. Our family friend who was a sales Rep for Wrigleys chewing gum showed up with a new Cadillac. He opened the trunk exposing thousands of packs of gum products. The Japanese, Koreans and a 100 people were chewing gum watching the automated rain! Hahaha..... Good times..... Carter Canada

    When I was young the Androscoggin and Little Androscggin were horrible. I worked at a paper factory in Mechanic Falls. At four in the morning, we used to dump our pulp tanks into the Little Androcoggin. That was pulp, strong chemicals, sulfur and dyes. The river foamed up and and stunk while the chemicals flushed downriver. The air in town really smelled bad. Near Skowhegan, they dumped logs into the Kennebec. The logs were so thick you could walk across the river. Jay, Maine had IP or International Paper. The sulfur smell was so bad it made your eyes water.

    Move what out of the way ??? lol . As I watch your videos it is so amazing to hear of events that In my own past experience were the same . Loading fertilizer with a tractor , spilling a small amount of fertilizer into the radiator area . 911 farming , rushing to the next project and getting to put a new radiator in the tractor . Shop a disaster , yes it happens . I have to state the obvious , so much disappointment seeing waders , you never cease to amaze your viewers ... I used to have an up stream neighbor who always enjoyed dumping her grass clippings into my supply ditch . I never had such a fine screen set up , nice looking unit . That long suction is amazing , I never tried to get over 6 ft as the lift was a killer , one tiny vacuum leak and no prime . So much going on here that many have NO idea of the work involved . You guys are amazing . I could watch a circle work for hours . I considered them the most valuable piece of equipment I owned . It was June , it was cool and I did not have any say in my swim in the pond , it was cold ...

    • @BellsFarming
      @BellsFarming  6 місяців тому

      Hahaha thanks Dan! It’s always nice to hear how things haven’t changed much over the times little bit of an improvement on some equipment, but farming practices are still very similar! We have 2 other pumps we use on the PTO. These suction lines do not have nice river screens just a basket at the end of the pipe. We got a fish jammed a couple years back.

    Love the wheel lines! I'm pretty sure the river is a whole lot cleaner than the irrigation ditches we swam in as kids in the 60's. Washington state. Easter WA is great for spuds! Short story, ~All overflow of fields ran back into the next ditch so by the time it got to our place, we pretty much swam in anything that was spread or sprayed onto the fields, then irrigated with siphon hoses. We lived through it, didn't we!

    It's simply amazing to me that the androscoggin is used for actual irrigation. I know it's been cleaned up now for least 20 years. I wonder how long all those farms along it have been using it? Great vid though, yessah.

    Another awesome video! I just love how you two work together to get a task done. I remember asking about your VFD's in the potato storage several months ago. That irrigation pump VFD (actually a Danfoss rebranded by Pentair.... Trane does the same thing) is the exact one I work on. I have been a Danfoss factory service rep for nearly 25 years. It is so cool to see all of the applications they are used in since I am almost exclusively in the HVAC side of the drive industry. Can't wait for the next vid!

    Irrigation is maybe the most profitable work on a farm but I hate it still. Most times you should have started two weeks ago, it is blazing hot and you have the attention of a thousand mosquitos on the river. A neighbor almost did in when his home-made pump platform on the river capsized and he got stuck underneath by his clothes. Luckily he had a worker with him and was saved. Cheers from Finland.

    Rolling the fields after planting does a couple more thing other than flatten. It increases the soil to seed contact which helps in germination. Rolling also pushes many rocks under the dirt which also helps keeps rocks out of the harvester. Arkansas is the mosquito capitol of the world but I'm sure I wouldn't like those black flies any better.

    If I understand correctly, your irrigation boom swings in an arc: how do you irrigate outside the arc? Does the water pressure drive the swing/moving mechanism? We have many of these things which travel along the whole field.

    • @BellsFarming
      @BellsFarming  6 місяців тому

      Because its center point is along the road. It will only make a half circle. But it will still reach most of the field. There is an end gun that will reach beyond the half circle. We just have to be careful using it because the road is right there.

    Silly question but is that river tide dependent? In the Albany, NY area long time ago I hauled a diesel pump and piping to a job on the Schodack side (they pump some river water into the oil tanks, they monitor water level under oil and if there is a leak the water goes down first, they can offload oil to barge or other tank if problem). The river that far up is affected by the tide all the way down to NYC. Those poor guys in the rowboat trying to site the suction strainer and hose LOL! You did good not falling in!

    Very cool u two. Last thing I need is water this year. Never going to get into my fuelds I think. My bees are in trouble, with this cold and wet weather. Send water wings please.
