Fortunately, my employer has let me bring him to work with me, but I can't keep doing that. And you're right I keep getting asked why I didn't leave him with his mother or how come you don't take her to court and make her take custody of him. Why? because she is a horrible parent. She is doing much better now but I stepped up without questions and took care of my girls. I could have handled it on my own but my GF stepped in without hesitation and helped. That's how I knew I had a good lady her kids are all grown and she stepped in to help without question. I could and still handle things but I am so thankful for her help when she did not have too.

He's an amazing dad and always has been. "Mom" would show up at the big events (graduations etc...) and take pics with him that she posted to her friends, stating how proud she was. 🙄 The kids see it once they're older. Same, basically. My child support payments just go for extras and she thinks she should get more even though she makes more than me. If I had that child support money I could buy a house and build a proper life for my children but no, it’s a tribute payment to an evil harpy that the kids always tell me how much they despise. I’m just lucky my child support obligation isn’t as bad as most people I run across so I guess I’m fortunate. In my case I even did things “right” in getting married before having kids but that doesn’t matter when she up and decided she wasn’t “happy”. Oh well, she’s on the cats and box wine highway now.

Damn right you get little to no sympathy. When my son was in grade school, I’d pick him up, waiting outside the fence with the other parents. I’ve had parents (mothers) ask me, “So how come he lives with you and not his Mom.” Like there’s something wrong with that. My reply was always the same, “Just because I have a penis I can’t have my child live with me?” And I never got an answer. lol Just awkward giggles.
Edit: Just wanted to add my ex isn’t a pos. She’s a good Mom. And our son sees her on the weekends.

Oh I agree. My husband has way more patience and he’s a routine person, I’m not. Not that I ever want this to happen but he would knock being a single parent out of the park if it were to happen. It happened before for like a year. I got addicted to the pain pills I was being prescribed from a brain surgery he took me for full custody of our oldest ( youngest wasn’t born at the time). I got supervised visits. I’ll give him credit he killed it being a single parent. Didn’t drop them off with anyone so he could go out or get a break every weekend. He didn’t even ask for child support from me. I’ll be honest I didn’t even show up half the time when it was my visits. This was 2015/2016. I’m coming up on 8 years sober we got back together shortly after I completed rehab. Had another daughter and got married 2 years ago ( been together coming on 15years). Men can do just as good of a job if not better then the mother when they are given the chance and not just a mother keeping the child for child support, free money from assist or even to get petty.

My father had no idea what to do but he paid for everything I needed, I had a bed for the first time and I didn't have to worry about being woken up with a beating. In my experience, my crack head mother gate-kept me from my father saying he should do more and he doesn't cos he doesn't love me, when every cent she got from him went to meth and alcohol and the courts ruled in her favour for custody. Not only because i miss out on 50% of her life but also because her mother, who I was still very much in love with, chose to leave to bang trash that I don't approve of my daughter being around. Doing everything myself for years now, times do get tough. But I'd rather struggle than have a roommate or anything like that in my house. My father was and still is a great man and I do my best to do the same.

I commented on Dadvocate on this story, but thanks Chloe for picking it up. Why can't women see that we men can actually do things, have feelings, & are human too?
Add in that when I became a Dad, I was active duty military & my wife left me two days, yes two days after my babies were born. The women on my base rallied around me & so did my family, so I never had to ask for help, they just stepped in before I could ask. When I needed a break, the women on base came over to take over & give me a night off. To them I was just another "Mommy" who was overwhelmed & they rallied around me.

Whilst in basic training I received a phone call from my now ex-wife saying she wants a divorce and that she does not want the kids and I had to take them. I told her 'I can't until I'm out of tech school' which could be a couple months. During that time she kept asking me when is that time going to be up.
So when I finally got out of basic training and got to my first permanent base I had them within a couple weeks, because as she said "I Do NOT want them" (her emphasis (and she said that in Front of them too, unfortunately)).
I had them for the entire time I was in the military* until I got out (6 years).
    * except for the few months I was deployed for the Gulf War
