Laksa Sarawak the best.. no fish, just prawn paste with galangal and nutmeg and others delicious spices yum yum... we sarawakian eat laksa for breakfast and in fact for all meals
Laksa sarawak basically consist of multiple herbs and spices made into paste and cooked with chicken-prawn broth and santan (coconut milk). No nut or curry involved☺️
Just planning to make laksa Sarawak for tomorrow’s dinner... then i saw this video! For me, Laksa Sarawak is the best laksa in the world, super sedap & of coz, 5 star! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Im from Kuching, Sarawak and Sarawak laksa is my favourite. Our laksa doesn't have fish nor prawn paste. The paste consists of a lot of herbs like cumin, corriander, ginger, galangal, etc but a good broth is infused with chicken bones and prawns with the shells still on to get that rich flavour. Actually, there is a sambal that goes with the laksa. And the sambal you squeeze with a bit of lime. Glad you liked Sarawak Laksa. So now you know why Anthony Bourdain said it is the food of the Gods. Sarawak laksa is unique because to make it you have to buy the paste which is hard to replicate at home because of the variety of spices used in order to get the right amount and consistency in taste.
Wowwww...u guys managed to grab laksa sarawak?....nice n i'm sure u can taste d totally different flavour of sarawakian laksa from d peninsular fish-based soup laksa...😁

Thanks to Faiz for the laksa Johor and Siew Mei for the laksa Sarawak , wonderful 👍
Lol! It's okay Steve. We enjoyed watching you eat and had a good laugh! Usually they use spaghetti, we use Fetuccine. This one was made with ikan parang and ikan kering talang
Yeah, Sarawak laksa broth is shrimp based. Some people will add slices of fish cakes or fish balls. Thats the only fish u will find. Basic would be slices of omellete (some would serve slices of half boiled egg) and chicken, bean sprouts.

On the whole "Fettuccine vs Spaghetti" debate: Due to not having spaghetti at home, I have substituted with macaroni (holds sauce nicely), angel hair (cooks faster), and even fusilli (fun twist if u get the 3-colour one). It's the kuah/sauce really that makes the difference, in my opinion. My brothers even "innovate" it up and throw some cheese into that mix (it's actually not too bad). So you think east coast share one laksa.? 😂 ignorant. let me educate you. first of all, laksam is not considered laksa in east coast. any OG here would say that. they'll laugh in your face if you say laksam is laksa. LOL and only Terengganu have a proper laksa with 2 different broth. Kelantan doesn't have one, only laksam. Pahang "laksa" is straight up Terengganu, just less rich flavor.
Laksa sarawak typically uses prawn base for the broth :) laksa johor, laksa penang(asam laksa), laksam (originates from kelantan) has a fish base... oh man i need to get some laksa. Any kind!
Pasta noodles are used in laksa Johor which is traditionally eaten using the hand. Laksa Johor sauce like spaghetti bolognese sauce should be viscous enough to just coat the noodles. Read in a book on food history at the university library that street vendor spaghetti was initially eaten by Italians in 1800s using their hands. VIctorian English tourists paid money to see Italians lift their spaghetti over their heads to gracefully lower the spaghetti into their open mouths.
Laksa broths come in 2 main types: Fish stock based and coconut based. Coconut based Laksa are Curry Mee, Sarawak Laksa and Singapore Laksa for example. Penang Laksa and Assam Laksa are fish based examples. Laksa is essentially noodles in spicy broth
Laksa Johor is the earliest laksa to date invented by the Johor royalty, the youngest malay royal dynasty. The late Sultan Abu Bakar, 1st King of Johor likes spaghettis and he wanted a mix of malay dish with spaghetti, and Laksa Johor was born.
Awesome sharing bro! It also has to do with the fact that Johor is the only state that hasnt been colonised by westerns imperialist. Hence to respond, came along the spaghetti laksa! 😋😋😋 nowadays its eaten everywhere around the world! 🤗
7:52 Normally people eat rice with their hands in Malaysia. No one eats noodles with their hands here. You either eat it with chopsticks or fork and spoon,.
it will be more authentic if u try laksa in sarawak. bcos mostly in west malaysia, the ingredient need to be post over. not like in sarawak where everything is local. and yeah, sarawak laksa is more based on prawn and coconut milk instead of fish.

I thought Steve was exaggerating for content. If you can't take Laksa Johor, I believe you really can't take fish then, because I can hardly think laksa Johor to be fishy in taste. Good for you to have tried the dish. Well done.
Hahaha.. the relief when you taste the Sarawak laksa is palpable. Breakfast from God? That is some ranking bro. I love Laksa Johor because of the spaghetti. Also is there a Canadian dish that differ according to region?
Steve/Ivana, there is a way how to squeeze the lime, u hold the fork, and then start squeezing the lime on the fork to prevent the seeds from falling into ur food.
I’m from johor and my grandmother used to cook laksa johor a lot. She ate it with her hands but not for me, I use utensils. Too much a mess to use my hands ☺️
There's no fish at all in Sarawak Laksa. It's usually some sort of protein and iinm shrimp. It's the spices that also makes it unique and I believe that "sour" note is coming from nutmeg, which is quite rare in cooking in West Malaysia. Such a shame you guys could not travel to East Malaysia. It really does feel like another country altogether.
Sarawak Laksa is not Curry Mee. Sarawak Laksa - You should feel the warmth of the blended herbs & candlenut in the soup. Not fish based but chicken & prawn stock base. Johor Laksa - fish based. The white thing is not garlic. It's salted preserved radish (Chai po). Johor Laksa is normally eat with spaghetti.
I never know that one uses hand when eating laksa Johor...something new to me. Sarawak laksa looks more like curry mee. Anyway, all the states in Malaysia have their own version...to me, Penang laksa is the best.

Sarawak Laksa - If not mistaken, it is a mixture of prawn paste and chicken stock, made into a broth
ah that’s why Steve likes it...no fish!!
Come to sarawak then.. U will see many different foods and u will love it.. For sure🤗🤗🤗😉
Lol! First time I see noodles eaten with hand.😆 Interesting.
Looks yummy.😋it's almost 1am, and seeing you guys eat makes me hungry!😆
I thought Steve was exaggerating for content. If you can't take Laksa Johor, I believe you really can't take fish then, because I can hardly think laksa Johor to be fishy in taste. Good for you to have tried the dish. Well done.
Can't take fish but like canned tuna. I'm confused. 😂😂
@@sum41king maybe his tuna is "swimming" in a can, n not in the river or sea...🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lol eating fish and seafood exactly never! Funny how u elaborated! 😄😄✌
Hahaha.. the relief when you taste the Sarawak laksa is palpable. Breakfast from God? That is some ranking bro. I love Laksa Johor because of the spaghetti. Also is there a Canadian dish that differ according to region?
Rip for your tongue & taste 😂
Steve/Ivana, there is a way how to squeeze the lime, u hold the fork, and then start squeezing the lime on the fork to prevent the seeds from falling into ur food.
I’m from johor and my grandmother used to cook laksa johor a lot. She ate it with her hands but not for me, I use utensils. Too much a mess to use my hands ☺️
Hope you guys received more food, love to see steve try our each dishes, good job stevo
Haha thanks so much!! Wow never knew Malaysia has so many types of food!!!!!
100% no satay sauce in Sarawak laksa... it just sarawak laksa paste... based on prawn...
I've been eating it all my life but until today I've no idea what is in Sarawak laksa. Just know it's really good
There's no fish at all in Sarawak Laksa.
I really enjoyed your video. 👍🏼
Great channel. ⭐️⭐️
Greetings from Albania. 👋🏼🇦🇱
My mouth watering ...aiyaa ....shop close at 8pm .
I love sarawak laksa 🥰
same here!
Johor Laksa is normally eat with spaghetti.
ah that’s why Steve likes the sarawak laksa....no fish!!
I never know that one uses hand when eating laksa Johor...something new to me.
Sarawak laksa looks more like curry mee.
Anyway, all the states in Malaysia have their own version...to me, Penang laksa is the best.
I prefer Assam Laksa from Kedah (Malay style)
@@izounokuda5461 ya, l have tried the assam laksa from Kedah, not bad !!
Curry is Spore laksa.
No Msian laksa has any curry association unless you nvr tried it before.
Laksa Sarawak may look like Curry mee, but not curry involved in the making.
You need to squeeze the kalamasi for more nice flavour
Sarawak laksa broth usually is made out of shrimp and chicken.
I have never thought of Laksa as fish soup. It is so much more than that. Try the Singapore Katong Laksa. It’s shrimp rather than fish based.
Laksa Sarawak is simply divine. Squeeze some kalamansi should give you a citrusy taste.
Thank you so much for trying food that you really not eating at all.. nice try..💖
I tried my best! But it's not for me.
Sarawak laksa and curry mee are 2 different dishes.
You need to squeeze that lime into your Sarawak laksa for added flavour.
