- We went to the most recommended place to eat in Johor Bahru, Selera Johor at Plaza Larkin.
Lots of Malaysian food selections, specifically the ones from this region of Malaysia.
We were spoiled by the discovery of new flavours exploding in our mouths.
Kacang pool, nasi biryani gam, mee rebus, and more.

Steve is more Malaysian now....can...can...can...😅
Said no one ever. LOL probably cause it suits european palate
@@mohdfaizalmusa8820yes near my house at Larkin😊
The auntie that asked about the lamb shank is the cutest.
Johoreans are amazing. I stopped by their R&R and was greeted by multiple people. Casual "good days" and "salams". Seems like greeting random strangers is still a thing in Johor. The people in my state don't do that anymore. I hope Johor gets to keep that warmth forever.
Hi Steve and Ivana , I’m Yvonne, after watching your video, my husband Tony and I came here for brunch today ( 1/10/23) we ordered the same thing except mee rebus, we both love the nasi briyani and mutton , thanks for your sharing ❤
was it 7 stars worth food ? :D
steve clapping with glee before devouring the lamb was so cute. lol.... like a kid 1st visit to a big toy store

Thank you for this live and for your wedding invitation in Janda Baik. Wonderful. 😄
It was Recording.. Not live Just premering
this food court is where you can get most of Johor's signatures & speciality food.
Since you're in JB, you can jalan-jalan in other parts of Johor as well. Batu Pahat, Muar, Kluang, Segamat, Mersing may have some authentic johorean food.
Kacang Phool is Jumi n Greg favourite food.
Since one side of my family was from Singapore we grew up eating kacang pol. In the past you had to soak the beans overnight, these days you just buy the beans in a can. What I found funny was my Chinese Singaporean friends didn't know about it at all. They also had never tried the murtabak from Arab Street.
I have to come here when I visit my hometown next time.
Coincidentally, me too had a lamb shank Briyani earlier today! Another great video guys!
🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹 so satisfying to see you guys enjoying the Lamb Biryani & Kacang Pool. Fave food 💯👍👏👏👏
Taking pictures of your food instead of you. That's a first. 😂 Welcome to my hometown.

Omg, you 2 finished such a big feast 😊
Good food brings us together...❤
Really... looks delicious
Kacang Pool is derived from Arabic food Fu'ul. Original Malay language didnt use letter F & V, so we tend to substitute with P & B instead, while in the Arabian language, letter P & V not existed.
The broth for mee rebus is made with sweet potato.. That is why it taste sweet
You can try laksa Johor & otak-otak too. So yummy..😋
Wah, rupanya ada lamb shank di Selera Johor , Larkin, JB. TQ Steve n Ivana-give the information
Mee rebus actually use almost same spice blend of normal curry, but the sauce is thicken with mashed yellow sweet potato, and some ppl put crushed dried prawn and crush peanuts in it too, thats where the fishy taste come from
come to warung kak ana in kampung melayu majidee.. come at morning.. the sambal sotong and the breakfast there so damn gooood
Come on Steve... don't be shy to get your hand dirty.... this is Johor. Enjoy eating with your hand. Congratulations, you already eat the signature dish of Johor, Nasi Beriayani and Kacang Pool.... Terbaeekkkk!!😂 Ivana, Mee Rebus using sweet potato for the brooth....
Mee rebus Stulang..yummy
Interesting food vlog. So fun watching Steve enjoying nasi briyani and that lamb leg....😂 Great you both are enjoying good Johor food. After all those delicious food, Steve is going to sleep like a goat, not a log? What a joke !! 😂😅 Steve oh Steve !

Go to Kampung Melayu Majidee and try 'murtabak special' chicken or beef Azo, just opposite the mosque entrance

Saiful, your bahasa is getting better and better. Ivana, next time just take those food from Saiful, no mercy when it comes to food. Have a fun trip in Johor and looking forward towards your wedding and family visit videos.
Can you guys do a compilation of 7 star food in all your travel? Really curious..😅
The food in Johor is the best ( my hometown ). Love kacang pooll and nasi beryani Johor is just so delicious. Hope you guys have the time to visit the other towns in Johor ( like Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang..to name a few) and try the food there as well. Have fun. 💞👍🏻
Kacang Pool originated from the Middle East. The bean in it is Foul Medammas in Arabic and broad bean or fava bean in English. By the time the dish travelled from the Arabs to our south ie.Singapore n JB particularly, the "Foul" had been changed to "Pool"by locals...i saw on the BBC travel show, Ian Wright the host eating this dish at a roadside stall in Cairo. The locals there break a raw egg into it to mix but we in Singapore n Johor prefer to fry or broil it first.
Steve is so excited eating the beriyani lamb that he actually used KNIFE & SPOON instead of FORK & SPOON when eating the rice. 😂
Mantap Bro 👍🏼
Mee rebus gravy is sweet potato base very delicious 😋😋
just near to my home.should try rojak asma too!!!!
hello watching from Borneo
Steve, i suggest u say 'tidak mahu gula' instead of 'tanpa gula' coz the way u pronounced it sounds like 'tambah gula'. Im afraid they will add more sugar instead 😷
One good thing that you have to know.... Malaysia have foods from all over the world, but the best thing is Malaysian always make other country foods "the Malaysian way", and most of the time, it taste better.... 😊😊😊
for chinese food, u can go pekin restaurant at taman sentosa. not far from where u stay
Murtabak Singapore is iconic dish in Johor Bahru. Inspired by ZamZam Restaurant, in Singapore. Try Murtabak Kampung Melayu Majidee, a foodcourt in front of Masjid Kampung Melayu Majidee, Johor Bahru. Prefer Cheese Murtabak. You never regret..
Briyani Johor is one of the best or maybe the best food in the country. I usually will come to any wedding invitation in Johor because they will feast it to the guests. 🤩🤩🤩
Go and try Pisang Goreng Mawar there in JB for afternoon tea. It's delicious. 😋
Location: Opposite JDT football team Training Centre.
Mee rebus gravy is made of boiled sweet potatoes and with shrimp. That's why it is sweet and fishy. The one you are having is one of the good ones in JB. I am not sure if Mee rebus Haji Wahid is still how I remembered it to be, but this is definitely one of my favourites.
info about the dish mee rebus. It has dried shrimp (udang geragau )
the lamb part that you eat with briyani is the famous lamb shank part. rm50 for the lamb shank set with briyani is very fair price. in arabic restaurant in KL usually sell rm50-70 for lamb shank with briyani. at mamak usually they sell lamb shank as separate dish for rm40
14:55 I can't stop laughing seeing you enjoy the feast! 😂
Steve & ivana should rent the motorbike for ronda2 around the johor to muar, kluang, segamat, mersing, pasir gudang, yong peng, batu pahat, gunung ledang, pulau tioman, pulau aur, pulau tinggi, pulau sibu, desaru etc
You should try burasak in Pontian, Johor. It is best eaten with asam pedas ikan tenggiri. But as it has lotsssss of bones (and as Steven does not like fish), you can have it with rendang/kurma as well.
It used to be served by Bugis people during raya only. Not many places sell it (I only know 2 shops selling it in Pontian) but you can buy/eat it all year long now.
One of the shops is in Pontian town proper (near the old bus station) and the other one is in Benut (about 10 km from Pontian town).
Try briyani Gam .. 🤤🤤
would love to see more interaction with the locals like this one ..5 stars vlog . lets be clear .. 6 starssss !
I'm going for that kambing leg tomorrow!
The sweetness of the Mi Rebus comes from the chosen starch used to thicken the gravy.
3 top starches: 1) Potato - gravy would be light coloured, taste bland, often used because economical, but less umami. 2) Keledek (Yam) - Sweet, most umami, considered premium because it's now expensive. Gravy colour is darker than potato one. 3) Biskut Marie - Darkest, sweet but not too sweet. Balanced between cost, umaminess, and taste.
Ok next find mee Bandung, rojak asma, mertabak special kampung Melayu majidee. Tauhu bakar botok botok..
Try nasi beriani kari kambing 40 hari....loc at yongpeng...
I’m Johorian and I love Kacang Pool. Good for breakfast with a cup of kopi kosong. For lunch try Laksa Johor too. Enjoy!
@@Ted_Locowhy answering??😂😂😂😂
The soup base of a typical mee rebus is sweet potato, hence the sweetness and thickness.
16:04 Mee Rebus. I was expecting a soup noodle serve in a bowl. That one visually look like Mee Jawa.
My favorate nasi bryani mutton
I’v told you the kacang pool is very delicious 6 ⭐️
Sedap gila.. Sangat-sangat sedap.. 😋😋😋
Pls try Hiap Joo Bakery & Biscuit Factory located in JB Chinatown, which a hundred years old bakery shop. Best banana cake ever you guys should try it !

Rm50 normally can get 1 lamb shank and rice only without condiment..consider cheap..why u dont sip the bone marrow mann..its heaven
nasi campur pokok ceri in front of Persada the best for me😊🤗🤗
My favorite "mee rebus" type dish of all time is something called "Mee Celur Palembang". Normally you'd have to go to Palembang to get it but I've seen it in the occasional Jakarta food court. One day I'll have to track down a recipe. Anyone know if anyone sells it in KL?
Selamat makan guys take care from orang philippine
