This song has definitely become a classic that a lot of people listen to every chanukah. A person who was a choir member at this concert commented on the original video that the stage actually rotated slowly as they were performing.
That was me! Thanks! 😊
Yeah I went to that concert, I remember that rotating stage
Yerachmiel is definitely a powerhouse. He's been doing the Miami Boys Choir since the end of the 70's! He's composed every one of their songs and does all the choreography. And yes, we definitely will have this playing in our homes on Chanukah
When you hit like on a video during the starting ads...
Yerachmiel Begun has been at it for a while, from even before the 90s. He got his start all the way back in the 70s in, you guessed it, Toronto.
Check out the album called "Miami meets Toronto!"
Listening to this brings back childhood memories, favorite choir
I knew you'd like this @PortuguesePai!
No Chanukah is complete without playing this song at least once 😂
My family listens to it every Chanukah 🕎 I know many of the lyrics by heart 😂❤️
@@MnM072 yes 😂👏
I was at this concert! It was so cool for me as a little kid and I still remember the experience to this day.
The little boy's name is Zavel Pearlman, he was in the choir for many years (and he is the uncle of Miami star Dovid Pearlman). Unfortunately he had heart problems and passed away as a young man
This isn't a traditional chanukah song. Just a nice uplifting chanukah song. It's actually the first time I've heard it.
Thanks for taking off your holiday time to create content for your UA-cam community. It's highly appreciated.
Some of these boys are coming off long careers in the choir. The 90s was an awesome time for the choir
U hit this reaction on the button! This was one of the best!!!
Miami Boys put out a full Chanukah cd. This is the first song. We listen to it and others like it before and during Chanukah
The MC is Nachum Segal
He has a radio show for years called JM in the AM!
great reaction you should do more reaction to yerachmiel begun and the miami boys choir
This song brings me back so many memories! I remember walking home from highschool and stopping in the store to purchase the CD the moment it came out and played it over and over again. I'm getting old 👵
Haha, you and me both 👴🏼
You probably mean "the record/tape"? Haha...
Nope it was a cd. I got married in 97. I used to play the cd for my kids every chanilah
Chanukah

I'm not that old . CDs were the thing then. I still remember the cover and all. So it was definitely a CD.
If you’ll pay close attention the actual circular stage is slowly spinning throughout the whole performance. The song is a classic. It is definitely played in almost every Jewish home on Chanukah! This is a huge venue!
The Nassau Coliseum is an arena and and sports venue in Nassau County, Long Island - east of NYC, and certainly not in New Jersey. ;-) It was home to different teams over the years, including the NY Nets (now the Brooklyn Nets) and NY Islanders. Yes, the audience was all around the (round) stage, which was rotating for the full view.
This concert was the fifth Miami Experience, the last in a series of (annual) concerts that did not end up continuing, at least not as a series. I remember a classmate attending the concert, and coming back with to school with this song on his lips.
This song is synonymous with Chanukah to me! Every year we turn this album on in my house starting a few weeks before Chanukah. Love how you appreciated the buildup of the 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 LIGHT UP THE NIGHTS! Feels exactly like the excitement of Chanukah to me 😊
I was going to recommend you do a different chanakah song for each night but so far you are doing a good job. It is the second day and this is your 3rd song.keep it up. I guarantee you will never run out of chanukah songs
Wow. Just wow. This performance and song really shows why the Miami Boys Choir is where it is.
This is my childhood
Same same.
My son was in this choir. The little boy was very sick
In regards to the stage,it was actually rotating slowly as they were singing. and even with that they pulled it off to perfection!! Happy Chanukah everyone!
It's so much fun seeing an outsider react, and really enjoy, our music and these videos!
In 97 they were old.the Miami Boys Choir is from 77
Loved it!!! Good old memories!
YEEEES You're reacting to this one! Commenting before I watch haha. This one has less "dad moves" and more movement so I'm hoping you'll enjoy it 😄
The Miami purists played this Chanukah album every year. At least we did.
Eight nights of @PortuguesePai reaction videos!
Love the energy on this song! Great review!
There are very few Jewish English songs that have stood the test of time and this is deff one of them!!
The Announcer is Nachum Segal, a radio host and MC of events very well known in orthodox circles
To answer your question about listening to this song during Chanukah... Yes, people might have this in a playlist of classic Chanukah songs they'll play during parties on Chanukah. But this particular song isn't really so easy to sing along. More typically, the sing-along Chanukah songs are versions of the verse "Yevanim Nikbatzu Alai" from the Maoz Zur poem. There must be ten versions of it, and a search of UA-cam will probably turn up several.
You should react to the Miami Boys choir carpool karaoke
Thank you for the great reaction!
This song was my introduction to MBC as a kid. I saw them perform this live (albeit at a different performance).
Also, it's hard to tell, but the stage was rotating the whole time which made the choreo more difficult!
this song is listened to by many every hanukah it's a household favorite
you are a very positive guy! you anticipate joy, not failure, that's a great thing.
Ooh, nice touch adding the subscribe/notification effect.
Haha, thanks. I'm learning how this video stuff works everyday 😅
The gut in the beginning is Nuchem Seagal he used to have a talk show on the radio.
He still does!
@Sari107 didn't knew
Thank you
Nassau Colleseum is where the Islanders used to play, where they won their Stanley Cups in the 1980s
What a classic, my daughters bop to this tune all day Chanukah.
Chanukah classics are usually in Hebrew…
This song would be played the entire month beforehand to get into the spirit but not necessarily sung when lighting the candles
I grew up with this song and thought it was way more recent…
Music is part of Jewish celebration.so we listen to this and many other chanukah songs during the holiday.
this song is a must listen in my family every chanukah
4:43 We definitely listen to Chanukah music throughout Chanukah. Regarding this song in particular, I'd say it just depends on your taste in music. I could be wrong, but from what I see/hear in stores, advertisements, etc. it seems like there aren't that many different Christmas songs or variations of Christmas songs. (I don't mean that with any cynicism of any sort. And please correct me if I'm wrong.) With Jewish music however, name any holiday or almost any prayer(!) and you'll find a huge variety in songs. So we have a lot to choose from :)
I was just thinking about how big your videos have become in comparison to the other videos posted by the big channels like Just For Laughs, which has 12.4 million followers - in 2 hours they got 5k hits, and you, who have less than 5k followers, got 5 k hits in about 3 days. In comparison, I think you have a bigger fan club.
you should react to "Those were the nights" by Yeshiva Boys Choir
the most famous song for this album is ya’aleh v’yeyavoh whic I hope they release a live version for you to react to
In my family we make holiday playlists for every holiday 😊
Nassau Coliseum was in Nassau County on Long Island NY. I think the NY Islanders used to play there.
Oh, I think the Nets still use it. It's still around. It's been a while since I was there.
Right New York. I think I said New Jersey by accident
Not the nets. That's the barclays
Before the islanders went to Brooklyn
@@alfredfried2589 What do I know. I'm just an out-of-towner Torontonian. My wife's the one who's from Long Island.
This has definitely become a Chanuka classic!
circular rotating stage in front of 16,000 people, me included in that crowd
The cute little kid there, if I'm correct, is zavel pearlman. He was one of the choirs biggest stars. Sadly he passed away at the young age of 18.
Keep the Chanukah songs comings
btw the double breasted suit was in at this time. I looked like like that at my bar mitzvah with these cut of suits
About your question regarding if this a song that is sung on chanukah, with your analogy to Christmas Carol. There are certain songs sung after lighting the menorah and throughout the Chanukah holiday that are kind of Classic Chanukah songs, which in theory would be similar to Carol's. Then there are songs such as this one and some of the others you've done reactions to recently which people will generally listen to during g the holiday but have no religious significance my analogy would be Grandma got run over by a reindeer or jingle bells rock whi h are not Carol's but played a lot on radio this time of year
That lil guy is Dovid Pearlmans uncle and he passed away 😢
yeee during Chanukah this is def part of the playlist
their first Chanukah song was from the 80s I think is on its mim hashamyim or klal yisroel album which was great song v’acher kein ba’u
There aren't many Chanuka equivalents of a carol, really only a handful of songs which predate the last century. The most famous is Maoz Tzur, which set an excerpt about Chanuka from an old poem to an adaption of German folk song, which itself went on to be used for Christmas carol. The tune is not particularly inspiring to be honest.
Chabad has its own Chanuka song which is quite beloved. It has so many different parts, it's effectively a medley, and flits between solemn reverence and joy in a characteristically Jewish way.

This is a Chanukah classic

1997?? he's been doing this since the 70'!
Finally! for bringing it up on chanukah!!
Also check out The Yeshiva Boys Choir - "Those Were The Nights (of Chanukah)"
Hilarious music video! The "actors" all boys - members of the choir.
This songs a classic !!
In the 90s the style was baggy clothing
There are traditional Chanukah songs that we sing on Chanukah, a few variations depending on which community you are from, this is not a traditional song but one we have been listening to since they made it.
Love your stuff
'97??? Nah, not so recent 😂 He founded MBC in 1977!!
He’s been doing it since 1976!
Please please do this one. One of the biggest raising stars in Jewish music
Awesome
The song is not like Christmas songs, it’s a essentially a pop song
I think this was a turning stage
Some of these boys were in the alumni henei matov video
That stage was circular and circulating
This is more for Chanuka festivals etc.
Definitely continue with the Chanukah music. How about My Menorah by Shlock Rock? ua-cam.com/video/PqVhiW9hgdE/v-deo.html
Another great chanukah song, is called Miracle. Originally sung by Matisyahu but I would recommend watching the Maccabeats version. ua-cam.com/video/oHwyTxxQHmQ/v-deo.html
Here's more Chanuka music and the album light up the nights

Is that intro Zale Newman (another Torontonian)?
Nachum Segal
I have to say that it's so funny how many famous Jewish personalities come from Toronto.
The musical conductor who is the director of the choir sings with them quite a few songs.
I must tell you that most of the songs are verses from the Bible.
The Christians took the word Hallelujah from the Jews because it is written in the book of Psalms many times, Hallelujah is a word divided into two. the first is, to praise,
And that is the first word. The second word is two letters from God's name.
And why only half of God's name? Because until the whole world believes only in him and in no other factor that he is the one God and there is no other god, only then will his name be complete
You’re very kind. This song and the moves are a bit cheesy and dated. This is not a traditional Chanukah song. It was something they came up with it for the performance.
'97 is nothing...hes doing this since the 80s.
