- Modern Blues Harmonica ace Adam Gussow pays homage to Japanese harp legend Ryuichiro Senoo and his soulful stylings on "Spokey Dokey," from the COWBOY BEBOP soundtrack. First in a series.

I didn't realize that it was that important to younger players, but I'm delighted to know that. I've worked up a second video on the song but wasn't sure if I'd continue past that. Now I think I will.
R.I.P Weeping Harp Seno. He pretty recently passed away, December 17, 2017.
Passed away on my birthday..
🙏
I must confess I'm a blues harp fan because of Cowboy Bebop. Then again, I must confess these are the only blues harp featuring CDs I got. Now that I've discovered your video lessons I'm surely going to widen my musical culture but still it's incredible how an anime could be so incisive in bringing a taste for good music to us young people.
I wish to thank the whole CB project staff for making such things possible.
Of course, thank you Adam for teaching us the way we like it!
I literally get chills listening to this song.
Adam, it´s awesone that you decided to look upon this song. You know, this song "alone" was the reason why many young harp players decided to pick a harmonica. It´so much important for the younger generation.
Beleiveve me, this will make you very, very appreciated by the young crowd. Me included of course.
Cheers and, Kuddoz!!! (and five stars of course)
i could never for the life of me learn harmonica. guitar, bass, piano no problem, but harmonica always got me. admirable to see someone who can play it so well
I recently started learning the harp, and playing this is one of my goals. Thanks for your help!
Hey Chris! Are you able to play it now?
Rue-itch-ee-roe Sin-no is the pronunciation. I'm not a big blues ace, but this song gives me chills. Thank you very much for this video because I love Cowboy Bebop and this piece.
Ok. I'm definitely gonna buy a harmonica soon, now.
this ryuichiro senoh piece is the reason that i have a D major Suzuki Manji.
i just listened to this song, tried to learn it on my old shit harmonica i had as a kid, decided it was shit and immediately ordered a new one, a special 20 cause it's cheap and apparently very good for beginners (easy to bend with, hard to damage the reeds), i might upgrade and get harps in more keys once i learn not to suck and get my head around this song
did you?
Oh bless you for posting this. I started playing harmonica a couple years before Cowboy Bebop, but I must admin, I didn't get really serious until I saw the show.
I would gladly pay CASH MONEY to see you do the same treatment for the solo at the end of "Don't Bother None (Long version)". I'm already able to play (as you say) 90% of it. But I'd still love to hear you go through it.
Definitely check out the show itself if you have some spare time. It's a masterpiece, and has one of the best, diverse soundtracks in any show ever. P.S. Also, his last name is Senoh
That's right: you are indeed the person who asked. I recognize your handle. It was a success, as you can see. Many people love this song. My feeble attempts at decoding it made that clear. I'll try to do a couple more videos soon.
Man, THANKS for making a video about this. I've been trying to elarn how to play this song for years! God bless the internet!
@Affael I've been playing Clarinet a lot longer than Harmonica (clarinet about 11 years, harmonica closer to 2 weeks). With any instrument, it greatly depends on how much time and effort you put into it. More practice usually translates to better technique. Just be sure to pay attention to what you do and learn from mistakes! It also doesn't hurt to have access to a teacher that knows the instrument well, and can provide one-on-one lessons.
Believe it or not I forgot you did a lesson on this. About a month ago I started watching the show, nothing to do with your post; I can't remember why I decided to watch this show.
Anyway, I started downloading the soundtrack and instantly recognized the song name as a lesson you did and here it is!
Cowboy Bebop has a lot of jazz and blues music within. I think the episode called Sympathy for the devil is about a guy who doesn't age and plays harmonica :D (of course he's a bounty).
This is a great video, and major kudos for the song! Cowboy Bebop is one of the most incredible animated shows ever created, with some of the most memorable music (such as this song!). Spokey Dokey is one of my favorite tracks. There's another harmonica piece played in episode 24, that wasn't included on any of the CD's, that I'm also curious about.
Adaaaam!!!! i didnt knew you reiewed this amazing song!!!! I love it so so very much, BTW i loved you book!!!!
I love this song. And Cowboy Bebop is my favorite series ever! The Seatbelts are an awesome band.
There is also another version of this song that comes with the 3 disk cowboy bebop soundtrack. The title is called Spokey Dorkey (atternate take) on the album. Might be worth checking out.
Yep. I may learn harp just because of this song, and your teaching! Great job!!!
HAHA the D harp is the only I don't have..... I'm definitely gonna buy one today !!!
Thank you AG you're the best !!
Great video! The Seatbelts are one of my favorite bands these days, and this song really got me wanting to learn to play the harmonica. Definitely going to buy one at the beginning of the month!
this show is amazing not sure if you have the time during the pandemic but the soundtrack and theme of the show is worth watching! thanks for inspiring me master gussow
Thanks a lot, man. I learned so much just from looking at this 6-minute video. I'll check out your website.
im so happy seeing people see how badass cowboy bebop is music and show wise
this is awesome. i didn't think something like this would pop up when i searched the song!
I can't believe you are doing a video on this, this is so awesome
Hey Adam, this is great! I love this song, I wasn't expecting you to do a clip on a piece from cowboy beebop soundtrack (great soundtrack, great cartoon too)... Thanks a lot. 5 stars
Thanks for bringing us all of this music Yokko Kanno!
I know i am pretty late but i have been following you for awhile. i want to start taking your pointers on youtube
Thank you Adam you made my day!

Thanks for the harmonica tabs
I love this thanks for your videos no joke i've learned so much from your videos keep it up!!!
"Pocket Rocket" is Kim Wilson at his best. I'll make a note of that. You've got good taste.
Almost 12 years ago. Gold
Very cool stuff. Now I'm gonna have to check out this guy's stuff.
Don't I say that I'm using a D harp?
Legit favorite ost
!!! This song made me want to learn to play the harmonica!
@Cloress1: I didn't know that, and I thank you for the correction. If you google "spokey dokey" you'll find that it's in the Urban Dictionary--which I didn't know--and I strongly suspect that folks who use it in the way discussed there (mis)pronounce it as I have, to rhyme with the familiar American phrase "okey dokey."
Great job man I'm going to learn this for sure tnx..
Wow, you break it down smooth.
Shame on you for not knowing cowboy bebop! I hope it got you watching a bit of the series. Good stuff. Actually is the reason I picked up the blues harp in the first place
Adam,
American harp player here living in Japan. Correct way to say Japanese harp players name in Reeeuuuueeeeechiroooo-san.
Just trying to help. Love your videos over here.
Trying to play this makes my lips hurt. I love it. If you don't feel it when and after your playing, you're not playing it right. I wish I could just remember the sequence.
Thank you kindly sir
I drooled all over this damn harmonica....
I need a bib
I was wondering if you could make a video of how to play the "Cowboy Bebop" opening song "Tank!" on harmonica I thought it would be pretty cool to be able to play that
I understand! that's awesome.
amazing info!! thanx a lot!
You should watch bebop. Their music is fantastic.
you proncounce his name fine "ruu ee chi ro, seh no" but in japanese the r's are not really pronuced as r's but a mixture of r and l rluu,
Thanks for doin this, its the song that made me pick up the harmonica, another one he did is called diggin my potato
@insanentity **Correction, it's near the end of the LONG VERSION of "Don't Bother None." It's a seriously intense harmonica song if I've ever heard one!
awesome man kudos!
good job man would love to play along but i only have a C harp .... need get me d
that opening two note is the same opening lick to the song pretty baby. The 3draw-2draw (without a roll to the 1). I think the song pretty baby is in on an A harp.
god bless you man!
everytime i learn a song i feel like i have another super power!
and this song is powerful enough to make my wife cry in a romantic date!
haha
peaceout!
Hey do you think a Lee Oskar Major Diatonic Harmonica from guitar center would be appropiate for learning this?
This is definitely advanced. Kinda hard to know if it’s the right sound at the moment when I hear both sound the same and mine is different.
You need a key of "D"... well shit.
you make it look so easy
Damn, I bought a D harp today and it doesn't sound like your in ant way hahaha I guess I'm so noob yet
Guess you haven't been playing for 40 years like gussow has :p. Dont expect to sound like that on your first D harp!
sweet stuff
beautiful! just got a subscription from me.
@Cloress1 I think if that was the case, it'd have been spelled like that.
this is sweet
There's a long and detailed tab available through a quick Google search and/or UA-cam search. I've seen it; I don't like it. Like the great majority of tabs, it's useless unless you've actually got the recording right there with you. It doesn't offer any legible time-count for the licks it represents. But perhaps a few people will find it more useful than I do, and I encourage folks to search it out.
how to play Cowboy BeBop Spokey Dokey. Good job man
