- Here is a full concert of the Golden Gate Quartet in Berlin. It is from the late 50's or early 60's. I received this video in a trade about 1980 and have never seen another copy. It's in watchable condition and the music is wonderful.
If you like old music, visit my website at www.kardboardkid.com. I buy old concert posters

2022 and Im still watching this...These guys have class!! WONDERFUL simply fantastic... CLYDE is remarkable!! HE NEEDS SPACE BEHIND HIM🤣🤣🤣
My father who plays bass guitar on this show, discovered this video like you, after so many years. He told me that it was in Hannover (not in Berlin) probably at the end of 1974 or in the beginning of 1975.. Singers was (from left to right) Paul BREMBLY (barriton), Orlandus WILSON (bass), Clyde RIDDICK (first tenor), and Calvin WILLIAMS (second tenor). Musicians was Jean EVANS (piano), Tony PIAZZA (bass guitar), ans Baldo ROMELLI (drum). This concert was made especially for television during a tour.
Wow really? That's amazing. It must have been so cool backing up those guys.
There is a certain camera angle that happens throughout the show where you can see him pretty clearly. I was just noticing the angle on much of Sweet Georgia Brown.
Ask him if he's got any cool stories.
It is mid 70s as you say they look the same as on my photos from 1975: ua-cam.com/video/-pRgXpUWLMM/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/XVxyv676QPw/v-deo.html
@@danielmunder810 I would ask him for that
The best group.... I know them personally.... i love them all from the beginning til today...
Great musicians👍
Hello this must be from the 70s ... These are the members performing here : 1971-1985
Riddick, Clyde: 1st Tenor 1939-95
Williams, Calvin: 2nd Tenor 1971-85
Brembly, Paul: Baritone since 1971
Wilson, Orlandus: Bass 1946-98
German Color TV started in 1967
The song "Cabaret" gained popularity in Europe when the film (same name) was released in 1972. So I think we can safely assume the concert was given after that date.
J'ai eu la chance de les voir 2 fois à Paris dans les années 80, c'était inattendu et un vrai bonheur ! Clyde à cette époque avait déjà un certain âge, mais effectivement, il avait toujours besoin d'espace derrière lui !!! 😍😍😍❤❤❤💯💯💯
There was a live performance from Golden Gate Quartet where they were in a church. The performance was spectacular and I believe the video had been removed from UA-cam. If anyone has a link or can refer me to it that would be greatly appreciated. It had Paul Brembly at the time....❤
what a performance by these lovely voices,God bless this.
Well i don't find the words to describe my feeling...❤❤❤❤
Many thanks for posting this great concert video of the legendary GOLDEN GATE QUARTET, one of the best vocal groups ever!
This video reminds me of the times when I attended the first time live concerts of them in Berlin during the second half of the 70s. GGQ were very popular in Germany from the late 60s to the end of 80s, and they used to give one concert in Berlin nearly every year.
The concert clip is definitely from the period 1971-1984, when the group had the following line up:
Paul Brembly (baritone), Orlandus Wilson (bass), Clyde Riddick (1st tenor), Calvin Williams (2nd tenor).
(in the stage order from left to right, at the beginning of the clip)
The instrumentalists are not shown clearly in the video, but used to be Guy Combres (piano), Francis Baïllac (bass), Baldo Romelli (drums) during those years.
It seems to be a original German TV production, which has been translated to French because of a later broadcast in France. As shown in the end titles and credits, it has been produced by the NDR (Northern Germany Broadcast) in 1976.
It surely was not a video recording of a regular GGQ concert: The usual GGQ concerts consisted of two parts, with Gospels & Spirituals in the first part, and Jazz & Vocal Standards in the second part. Here the concert program is mixed and scaled down to 45 minutes.
Also, the setting is definitely none of the Berlin concert halls.
Presumably it was a special TV production (with live audience in the studio) for the NDR, because of the credits to producer Sigmar Börner may be as a part of the "Musik aus Studio B" TV show series, which probably took place at "Großer Sendesaal des NDR-Funkhauses" in Hannover or, less probable, at the "Studio B des NDR-Fernsehzentrums" in Hamburg (but not in Berlin).
The production year seems to be 1976, not only because of the end titles, but also because of the repertoire: it consisted of the songs the GGQ typically presented during those years, but featured also two tunes from the 1976 LP album "Friendship" ("Miss Otis regrets" & "Cabaret") which persisted not so long in the group's live repertoire.
Great to have this concert / TV video and see he terrific GGQ from those years again !

"Hard Trials Great Tribulations", wohl aus den 20er Jahren des letzten Jahrhunderts, und hat seit Gospel Gate Quartet kaum jemand mehr interpretiert... schön es hier zu finden ;-)!
40 év után boldogan hallgatom ismét őket . hihetetlen még ma is , hogy mennyire jók (voltak)
Das Golden Gate Quartett ist 👍👍👍
Thanks for uploading this tremendous concert by the GGQ What a fantastic group they were. They've managed, despite some changes of personnel to maintain a peerless standard. Lucky you have this film!
Thank you. What a beautiful message. Lord, I want to be a Christian in my heart. Amen
Un vrai plaisir , toute une belle époque...
Some 30 years ago, as a kid, I had this on VHS but lost it somewhere in a meantime. Brings nice memories, awesome upload and many many thanks
Timeless...
love their songs lifting up LORD JESUS
I was 10 years old when I saw this last time. Many thanks for posting this.
THIS IS GREAT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THIS ON DVD
This video is not from 50s or 60s, it is probably recorded in late 70s or early 80s Paul Brambley, bariton, born 1950 (first from the left) joined the quartet in 1971 same as Calvin Williams, 2nd tenor, born 1921(first from the right). I was lucky to have them recorded and photographed on July, 1st 1975 and when you compare how they look on the photos i took that evening to how they look on this video, they look more or less the same age. watch: ua-cam.com/video/-pRgXpUWLMM/v-deo.html funny fact; they wear the same bow tie on this video and on my photos😎
I feel like the 8 year old me when my dad played this tape on Sabbath
Brilliant clip.
What amazing voices they had.
So,so good!

נהדר ! תודה !!!
wonderful ! Thanks !!!
Everlasting!!!
La buena música, la música excepcional nunca pasa de moda. Que lujo de ritmos, que lujo de voces.
Thanks for this post, however as a fan of GGQ I can tell for sure this concert was between not in 50's neither in 60's nor in 70's as said. But between 1980 to 1982
Indeed it's translated in French. But you have seen as well some post in German, so I would say I took place in German but may be diffused in France later on. Roxane
Great stuff!
Monday 10th of September 1973 (see Poster)
This concert was in Seventies. There isn'it the barytone Paul Brembly, that joined the quartet in seventies
Paul is there. He replaced Caleb Julius G.
C'est l'expression meme de la vie dans sa version melodieuse....
I figured it wouldn't be from before the late 60's since color TV didn't start in Germany until '67
Grad the Golden Gate made it into the 21st century.
there was only one Orlandus Wilson !
Call me mad, call me what ever you want I'll still be joshua.
The video is great. best thanks. I am looking for the title of the song that begins at the time of 11.50. Can someone help me?
michael row the boat ashore, the very best version. 42:07
perfetti
I want to love EVERYBODY in my heart. Then I try to watch the Germans clap in time.
Produced by german public tv station NDR = Hamburg
uowlllllll hehehe muito bom !!!
Are you sure it is not in France? the traduction is in french...
French Canadian accent!
Maginot The show is titled "Das Golden Gate Quartet". Perhaps it was filmed some place else like France or Canada and broadcast in Germany.
Exactly not exactly french like we speak in France, but with canadian accent :
But Calvin Williams says "Dankeschön" after " Hard Trials and Great Tribulations" so I think it must be in Germany or a german-speaking country.
Thats more like late 70's
When was the concert
Red tube
Name of the song at 12:00?
Hard Trials - Great Tribulations
