A few things from a GameDev's perspective, please excuse the novel of a comment: -The Argument that the blue/white land isn't usable unless you play white or blue ( 5:40 ) can be made about every colored card in the pack. Of course the red card isn't useful if you're not playing red, green card not useful if you're not playing green. In addition to that point, even if it was a basic land. Every single set of magic has unique art for the land cards, and those are just as collectable as decks frequently use 20-25 lands. Buying lands separately is an option but defeats the purpose of collecting. -Buildup. If every card in a pack had the same level of excitement generation. The final hit of getting a really good value rare, variant art, or gameplay impacting rare, isn't as impactful. Just as the tempo of a movie, the tempo of opening a pack following the same ramp up to literary climax, has a similar effect to its opener. -Your personal perspective of "well i have a whole box of lands" is a valid perspective, but not everyone's perspective. Someone coming new into the hobby needs those lands/energy. Those who are looking to collect new land art is also wants those lands, and is *also* a valid perspective. -The reason there is color separation in TCG/CCGs is to have more limitation, and creating gaps to creatively fill by the player. -You state Wonders of the First, is different because every card is useful. If I have 20 copies of a common card ( just as I generally do with say, a land ), I would have to raise fault with that statement. At the point of saturation (play copies needed for the number of decks that need play copies), all cards become redundant and unneeded. All of that said.... I agree with the *general* sentiment. I think land/energy in general is not great, and quite antiquated. There are more modern solutions. Pokémon TCG and Hearthstone, both operate without cards that have a primary purpose of generating resources. I think you have a completely great point here, but the evidence presented to assert it seems easily refutable.
@@TS-LordPhrozen Sounds like I need to sharpen the saw! Thanks for your feedback, and I appreciate your diplomatic approach. You make some very good points. My only response is: yes you will accumulate a lot of commons in a game where every card is useful in a deck. But you can go to a lgs and trade/sell those cards. Nobody is going to want my basic lands/energy. I guess I could give them to a new player, but they will soon have the same issue. It’s also more fun to craft a 50 card deck where EVERY card could have an impact on the game, rather than making a 40 card deck and then tossing 20 basic lands/energy in. 1/3 of the deck really has no impact on the game at all (aside from the quantity).
Final Fantasy TCG solves every single problem of the modern TCG/CCG. Every card is usable in a booster. Every card since release (barring 8. Or so banned cards) are usable in any tournament any format including standard. No filler cards in boosters. Insanely high card quality. Well priced. Etc. etc. Take a look. I only started playing like 2 months ago… it’s the best TCG ever made in every way (including solving gameplay issues in other games) nobody knows exists.
You are going to end up with a ton of cards you don't want to play with in EVERY Collectible Card Game! It's called chaff! Unless you buy a complete set or each single card, you will end up with garbage cards you don't need! You can't get around it! I'm glad you found a game you like, but if it's a CCG, or TCG, then random cards in a booster is random cards!
@@geekworthy7938 You make a very good point! Any CCG/TCG is going to create a lot of bulk if you’re opening a lot of packs. I just don’t need any more basic lands/energy. I wish I could buy packs without those.
I get the argument for lands and energy, but I don’t see an issue with leaders, unless you collect all of them right away but as long as there’s a lot you’re fine
@@TNT925 it’s not really an issue if you buy singles, but if you’re opening a lot of packs you’re going to end up with a ton of leaders that you will probably never use.

@@HyperHowie56 I’m actually the opposite. I didn’t really like the sorcery art, but I really like the Wonders cards. That’s why it’s nice to have so many choices. There’s a game for everyone!
@@ronaldwilliams8776 😂 no I’m not. I know it might seem that way, but I’m honestly just hooked on this game. It’s so much fun and it remedies so many of my gripes with modern CCG’s.
Its not possible for every card in a pack to be useful, first off it would completely kill the reseller market (which most of us doing mind but they would) and next it would inflate the cost of the cards because of how the sheets would need to be made and printed..... Dude this distrubtion of CCGs is very much "set in stone" for the way it works, not because of the game designers but because of the factories. You have to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars with them before they will even print on the booster packs and make them random.... Pack opening is dying, its considered gambling by most people, its rife for abuse from scammers, and it causes most games to be dominated by flippers pretending to be collectors. If you arent gonna play green then half that pack was uselss to you. The reasons that booster packs include these "blank cards" is because of the way that sheets work with printing.... no it cant be changed no it cant be fixed, and no there is not a better way to do it, because its set based on the printer and maker of the cards, not the designer. There is so much going on with the distrubution of card games that you dont understand its very painfully obivious.
@@trixer230 my point has nothing to do with distribution at all. I’m talking about the game itself. A game that requires mana/energy/leader/etc. to play will have to include those cards in a pack. Over time you will accumulate a bulk of useless cards (for playing the game). Wonders of the First has solved this issue by making EVERY card potentially useful in a deck. If you don’t play a particular color, then trade/sell those cards. I can’t trade or sell my huge box of basic lands/energy that I’ve accumulated over the years.
There are so many surprises in store for the pack ripping experience, too. It’s going to be very exciting!
@@QuarantinedCapricorn yes indeed! It can’t get here soon enough!
These packs are all designed with Draft format in mind. The repeat staples like leaders and lands are added in to support that format.
