It amazes me how many people do not have any kind of back up system in the event of a power outage. The first thing I did after I bought my home was install a battery back up . I went with the PHCC/Glentronics Combination Pump system. Swapped it out after 6 years. Both pumps ran fine, I just did it out of precaution. Over the summer I had a Generac 16kw whole house generator installed. I plan on swapping out my combo system and go with 2 main pumps, since I now have the generator. I also plan on installing a battery powered DC to AC converter if for some reason the generator fails. Its all about Redundancy.

I liked that Steve used some "Fritz" on the male connector. Won't have to pull out the big boy pipe wrench on the next changeout.
I would of used tie wraps instead of the tape.

Nice job Steve. Thanks for all of the hard work you put into filming and editing the videos. It really goes a long way in educating the new-comers in the trade. I’ve learned a lot from you over the past 5 years. You have gotten me out of a jam several times. Give it the old gundy!

Don Burton battery back up systems r junk and aren't worth the money . I always tell cust that save the money and buy a cheap gas generator instead of battery back up . They don't pump no more than 8 gallons per min and only last 3 hours .

    • @jhhvacplumbing1944
      @jhhvacplumbing1944 6 років тому +1

Claudius if u r asking me I say better than battery but still only getting 8 gallon per min when your normal pump is 30-40 gpm and the floats on the water driven ones r huge so u must have a very wide pit.

JH HVAC & Plumbing- Any opinions on the Ion Sump Pro? I put one in my house two years ago which is attached to two pumps that alternate every other pump (one sump pit both pumps on the same level). They are battery back up but use two batteries (100 amp hour each) but connected in series to increase the voltage. Both pumps are AC pumps. Works awesome...but then again I have not lost power since I put them in. Not sure they would last that long in a total power out condition with downpour... I looked into the water-powered pumps... just don't seem that feasible to me.

Cant see the point of powering them off the same receptacle. The combined starting current could be enough to trip the breaker and shut down both. Separate circuits would be better.

the higher pump is meant to start up IF the lower pump is not working and therefor drawing zero current.

After I watched this because my pump wouldn't stop running, I found my outside line was frozen preventing water from pumping out! After disconnecting the outlet hose I knocked out the ice from the outlet connection and the water came flowing out. Pump shut off and I was good to go. If freezing weather make sure your lines are free of ice before buying a new pump and replacing it. Fortunately I didn't have to go buy or replace anything.

Is this the basement that flooded a while ago? I ask as I see the same crappy 15amp power strip sitting near the outlets! Her claiming the water went over the top must have been from them using that crappy power strip... either that or maybe check valve is bad/stuck open for the bottom pump.

@@rosemeccia9411 The switch burned out like a year later. I wound up replacing the pump with a Rigid brand pump, and had been good so far. I heard that Liberty pumps are good, but I would have to order that online. Can't find that brand available by me.

My backup sump pump works with city water pressure. Don't have to worry about power outage or dead battery. But I guess if you're on a well system there's no water during a power outage. In that case a battery makes sense.

Our sump pump has been turning on every 8 minutes. Literally, like clockwork, it comes on and drains out completely, then slowly refills for 8 minutes. On a possibly related note, our neighbor has their water pipe going through our basement and I can hear water flowing through it all the time, constantly. Do you think they could have a break in the line which is causing our sump to fill up?

The first pump I put in was zoeller after a number of years the switch or float went bad then I purchased a external float that lasted another number of years. I just put in another zoeller pump only 4 years ago again the float went bad. This pump did not last as long. I do have a lot of lime build up.

New sub..we haven't had water in the basement sense 1962 ,, but last year we had 10" of rain in a few days and water started seeping in and began empting into the main drain. problem we had rugs and accumulation of stuff for yrs. Now this yr. The same thing happened. 8" all at once . I'm going to have a company put. In a sump pit & pump
Water comes in most on one part of the finished basement . They checked and think it will take care of most of the problem . it's a small house 40 by. 26 ft.Basmt. what do u think ? Cost $ 2,800.00 . Not going the French drain , hard to do in a finished basement.

why not just change out the switch? Those zoellers are EXPENSIVE and built to last. The switch probably failed because it was submerged and the seal failed. Often times a flapper valve breaks off and blocks outflow or there is some other blockage. I have a generator on the driveway set up to run the sump and refrig.

    • @stevenlavimoniere

i have mixed felling on them .the main problem is the battery is only good for so long .you are better off with a generator ,if power goes out .

steven lavimoniere after watching a couple of your videos I believe you will give an honest answer. I was just looking into a battery back up, a guy at the store told me it would last for 10 years??? Basically because it’s on a trickle charge. Another guy told me two years??? In your opinion how long will the battery last on a trickle charge? Just trying to figure out if it’s worth it. Thank you!
