- ABOUT THIS VIDEO:
Welcome back to my channel!
During the new year's holiday, I went back to my parent’s house and I decided to clean my room using the Konmari method along with my own method too.
Actually, I cleaned it last year as well, but I found that I still have many things.
So I’d like to clean my room thoroughly again.
Let's start cleaning together!

I've gradually started to declutter lately. I filled 9 large trashbags with things I didn't use or care about. It was a wild experience finding out how little I really need.
I know how you feel!!!
👍and better to declutter when You decide to than when you are forced by the events in your life !
@@murielhecquet8823 My older parents just went through this 'decluttering' when it was time for them to downsize belongings and move to a smaller house in Florida {a popular state for retirees in USA}. As a result they have given a lot of their stuff to me to own. Their stuff is in my house now and has become my clutter. I feel guilty getting rid of it, especially since they have asked me not to do so.
"Memories are not in things, but in your heart" THIS is very true. Next time I clean up my stuff, I'll remember these words :) thank you
Hello mr. Aki. Im a mom of 2 from the philippines. I like your videos about minimalism. Im also a minimalist & environmentalist ( still struggling with the latter). My special daughter taught me (unconsciously). Because she needs physical therapy at home the doctor told us to have a large space and to keep away all things that could harm her. So we remove most of our things. Not only do we have more room for her to crawl but there's less clutter and more air to circulate. Less cleaning and no need for fan/aircon. Our goal this yr is to lessen or even stop buying things except for food & other essentials. We try to reuse, repair, recycle what we already have & try to find alternatives or borrow from people we know rather than buy. We either donate or sell the things we declutter. We lessen the things we threw as much as possible coz according to an environmentalist the things we declutter/threw away did'nt disappear but still existed somewhere in the planet. What's important is not to declutter but to stop buying things.
The last part is very important and I'm glad you say that. Once we make something, it has consumed resources for its materials, transportation, storage, etc. So even if we were to destroy all of our garbage, or send it off into space, we still damaged the environment in the process. It really is important to stop buying things, buy things secondhand, and be more content with living with less and focusing more on the things that bring us true joy.
If that samuraj showed up for everyone who is decluttering, more people would go through with it. So cute.
We carry stuff from place to place out of habit, sense of obligation as if we can hang onto physical baggage forever. P.S. everyone should have a small samurai ☺
I can only imagine the happiness this brought to your parents too. Well done!
I think that finally clearing his childhood room gives more credibility to his channel so now he can spark joy in their lives also 🙂
As long as he didn't move on to their rooms next haha ;-)
I used to be an impulse buyer. I would buy things just to make me feel better if I got depressed. These "things" didn't make me feel any better, they just added chaos to clutter, I came across minimalism after reading Marie Kondo 's books. I came to realise I didn't need as much.
I still regularly declutter and I feel more content with what I have 😊
Writing from USA, this is June 2022 & we're still in the pandemic.
I've culled my bookshelves several times, thinking, "Oh, yes, I want to read or reread this in the future"...
Well, then the pandemic happened
and I had plenty of time to read, but I didn't even read 1 book !
It was much easier to donate books after that -- realizing I'm not going to ever read most of my books.
Your videos spark joy in me :)
I like how you present the KonMari method and minimalism. Many people who make videos about these subjects present themselves as better for doing them. Instead your videos show how you may feel better and have a better life without as many things. The difference is your meekness in presentation.
Thanks!!
Remember my decluttering friends, first try to give your items to those who want them / need them, then recycle if there is no need for them. Declutter responsibly!
I’m in the process off minimizing and this really put me at ease. One additional tip I might add is to turn things into art! My grandma made me a quilt with T-shirt’s from my college career, clubs, events, achievements, now I can use them rather them sit in boxes collecting dust. I’ve also had ideas to make memory shrines. Dedicated areas where I can revisit all of my little trinkets and sentimental items that I can’t yet part with. This helps me avoid the toy story effect where I feel as though the items are being disrespected being unappreciated in boxes. Lastly I have begun fire ceremonies. When I have something very meaningful to me that I no longer wish to carry I have begun burning them, this is similar to a flag ceremony for US flags. I feel this process honors the memories and feels better than hocking something sentimental into a trash bag.
It is so refreshing to have konmari explained by a Japanese person, it makes so much more sense than what I heard from Europeans who claim to do konmari. Thank you!
I recently started reading "the life changing magic of tidying up" and in it mari kondo says to take all those coins to the bank! give yourself that little fortune :)
I think the coins may be from other countries. banks usually don't convert them , just paper money. At least that's been my experience. I have assorted coins from different countries, but the local banks don't deal with them.
There's only one quote I remember from her book - "The purpose of a gift is to be received." :)
I am too on a decluttering journey, downsized 90% free of unwanted and unnecessary items. I feel woo saaah!🙂
A good idea for personal files and papers is to scan them and turn them into digital files (pdf).
Thanks from Brasil!
yes, i turned all my academic worksheets into digital files and it saves so so so much space
I have gotten back into decluttering lately. I don't usually use the KonMari method, but her book is still what started this journey for me in 2016. I went back to almost hoarding recently, so now I've been decluttering and it feels so good.
I like your technique of envisioning the room first. It was hard for me to do when I was drowning in stuff, but that I'm closer to minimalism again, it's getting easier. I tend to be overwhelmed by clutter quite easily, so I want to be more like an extreme minimalist (though not too extreme) so I can take care of my remaining things without being overwhelmed. So thank you for the inspiration!
One thing I will say about clothes that don't fit but used to, it's helpful to put them up in a suitcase if you're someone who frequently fluctuates in weight, like I am. I once lost weight, bought new clothes and got rid of the clothes that didn't fit anymore, just to gain the weight back. Then I had to buy more clothes.
see a new video from this channel make's my day better :)
This is awesome. You helped me with dealing with stuff. But I prefer to keep and collect my books. Because one day someone will need my book and come to me. Some people have come to me. I felt the difficulty of buying books in the past when I was poor. This is why I can't easily get rid of the book. Thanks from Indonesia and for your content. I love Japan.
Your videos give me joy, especially now. The world is suffering so. Thank you
The small samurai is very cute. ☺️
Room looks great.
Yes!
So many Konmari tutorials out there and yours is the clearest and most informative I've watched! Arigato
Thank you for the tips you gave in this video, it was truly helpful. When I was a kid I used to collect many coins and place them in odd places so that I could make a game to find them as treasure once I forget where I put them. Fast forward to some years later I did a clean up and the accumulated amount of money surprised me( it was a lot than I thought it would be). However I decided to donate it, and how it had helped other people and looking at their happy faces: truly sparked me joy even if it's for a little while. Hope this was helpful aki
I just love that small samurai who visited :) I'm enjoying hearing about your minimalism and Japan and it's inspiring me. Thank you.
2:00 this part was very helpful, I have a lot of clothes I dont prefer to wear or i possibly used to like and am always thinking "maybe one day i will like this style again" or "maybe one day i will have an outfit that this will go with" but this then causes me to keep things i dont use and have too much clutter. This also makes it hard to clean and keep my space organized. This could also help me find things that I do like but donr wear anymore because they have gotten lost in my closet.. I always try to only buy things I really like when i go shopping (and mainly second hand) but i still have a hard time of getting rid of older stuff which makes my closet become overwhelming
😄!
I’m planning to start de-cluttering on my days off. I thank you so much for giving me a step by step instructions. I’m busy working I have no time to read the book by KonMari. Thanks for simplifying it for me. I think it’s because you are a teacher that you know how to simplify things. Thank you so much! I’ll definitely use it.
Thank you, Aki-san and Miss Marie Kondo for being cheerleaders to those who want to be minimalists.
I'm watching this video now, as I'm going back to my room for another round of decluttering. Your analysis for reasons to hang onto books is spot on, and so clearly laid out. I think it'll help a lot when I'm going through my own books. Thank you!
This is the nicest and most comprehensible decluttering video I've seen! :) I have sent is to my boyfriend who is a beginner declutterer and is preparing for a move. I always give him tips here and there, since I've been a minimalist for about 5 years now, but this is a very nice summary and very fit for a beginner like him. My compliments!
Regarding the coin problem: in America, we can take extra coins to the bank and they will give you paper money in return. I’m not sure if it works like that where you live but it would be something interesting to explore more.
I started to declutter my closet then found clothes
That do not fit anymore. However, even though they did not fit I had so many memories about each item that brought back good memories and decided it was worth keeping for that reason alone. Worth it.
Downsizing is hard...but you can also give the old things a new life...for photos, you can make them into a postcard (I know that's old fashioned) or I also use them as recipe cards...
For coins, I make a point to use them as much as possible when I go out to the store to buy things that I need. During my first declutter, I put the accumulated coins into a jar, & whenever I went out to the store, I would take a few & make a point to use them with paper cash as well. I was worried about burdening the cashier at first, but I realized that if I take a few each time, then they are more than happy to count a dollar or two of coins. Eventually they were all used up, & I ended up becoming more mindful of the importance of money in this way. Marie Kondo also says in her first book to make the policy for coins "Into my wallet!" I just followed what she said but used them up quickly over time! I hope this can help in some way or give some inspiration for what to do, as I know coins in Japan are so much more widely used. I did the same when I moved back to the U.S. from Japan without too much trouble though : )
In airports there are usually boxes where you can drop international coins in
I've turned most everything into digital using a good scanner. It has taken years (since I had A LOT of stuff). But it is worth it. I had so many art books and other things including family photos. It is interesting. Sometimes things look better in a digital format! So yeah, I have been able to get rid of most everything...even the things that make me feel happy. They are on my computer now. lol
I am going to follow these suggestions and hope that a small samurai comes to see me when I'm done.
✌🏼☀️💚 yes good way of putting it! does this spark joy now! My whole life and way of thinking changed from applying this method several years ago and I would never go back. The peace and joy I feel being a minimalist cannot be bought 🕉
Your videos spark so much joy for me!
I hope i can fight all the feelings inside me and start declutter my house immediately .thank you for this inspirational video. Whenever i need strength to tidy up, i'll watch this video again
the paper cranes are lovely
'After cleaning a small samurai came and visited me' - this is the kind of inspiration I need for cleaning. I hope I get a visit from tiny Samurai too XD
Oh thank you Aki san. 🙏🙏
I want a nice and kind person like you in my life
Such helpful videos! Thanks for posting!
Foring coins can be changed in a cantral bank. Or sell them online for collectors. Thanks for new motivation by downzing - just got stuck in my prozess - there are some really good advices. Stay save and blessings
I am so happy getting notification on new video from your channel! 🔔
I think getting rid of sentimental childhood toys is especially hard for people who grew up with movies like Toy Story 😂. I really like what you say in the video: "Memories are not in things; they will always be in your heart." Whether you get rid of something or not, it will always be part of your history. I think a good technique is to visualize where the item would be most useful right now. You may imagine an item being recycled into something new, or an old toy being played with by a child instead of collecting dust in your attic.
One of the ways I get around decluttering photos or pieces of paper I have memories attached to is to scrapbook :) many others do it of course but I figured I would add that here. Great video!!
Love your videos. Im in process of decluttering and tidying our
House, weve got rid of about 6 bin bags so far. Our spare room is the big problem room so hopefully watching this will inspire me. Love the little samurai in your life, so sweet.
I took a break from my cleaning to watch this! Thank you for the timely video and reminders!!
You've reminded me that one of my tasks this spring is to go through all the boxes of my old things at my parent's house and ruthlessly declutter. It's mostly things from my childhood, which I know will be easy for me to get rid of. A great video.
Great video, thanks for sharing your process!
Great video! Such a good feeling to have clean open spaces. I struggled at first but then I started to reward myself with 1 new item that I really wanted after I declutter a room or closet or even a drawer! Thank you!
Thank you! I have been wanting to the first steps to becoming a minimalist
Great job! You're giving me motivation to declutter again.
I must say that you're awesome! Thank you.
Your tips are very helpful. Good.
Thank you for your videos!
I love your personality - so friendly 😎👍
I keep all my cards and photos etc organized in an accordion file folder. That way they're easily stored in one spot and not all over the place. I also scan a lot of documents and papers and put them in my Google Drive instead of having the physical clutter in my house.
Thank you for this video!
I have been decluttering my bedroom for weeks now. What I do is I start with one portion of the room for a day, e.g. my wardrobe or my desk because doing it all in one day is super tiring and I can easily get distracted without finishing anything. For coins I find in random places, what I do is keep them according to denominations in separate jars. I live in the Philippines, and there's this church we go to once a year. They have this huge basket where you can get repurposed PET bottles and they only accept 25 cent coins as donations in the PET bottles. For the others, you can also keep your coins, organize them and deposit to your bank account. It feels like having *magic money*.
Thank you Samurai Matcha for this great video. I now have more ideas about decluttering and hopefully find the motivation to finish this tedious task. :)))))
Great timing! I was just thinking of reassessing the things I truly needed in my environment. Now I can clean along with this video! Cheers😄
Thank you samurai
Kalispera. Nice video. Konmari It's a one of a good way to declutter your own things.I did it that way many years ago, when the inspiration from konmari didn't exist. it is a great help for many to focus on the essentials in life again.
This was a great example of how to declutter. Thanks.
I love to watch your videos, i am always looking forward to them since I found you recently! You seem like such a great person!
Love this thank you , I can't wait to Decluder my home more.
Great description of the process and great job with your results!!
What a wonderful video... especially the little samurai! He put a big smile on my face and brought me a spark of joy.
Great vlog.-Thankyou .Can see your hard work in the vlog.
@7:40 私は同じく書道の授業で「わびさび」を書いた。でも意味について考えれば、ミニマリストとしての生活は寂しい生活わけじゃないと思った。趣味や友達に会うことなどのために沢山時間があるからだ。
Thank you! Following this cleaning outline may make my life so much better.
Super nice video, so relaxing. The final result is fantastic, that room looks so peaceful!
Thank you for the refresh on the declutter, and I am going thru my stuff and I get stuck and move on to other things. Yes, it is winter and stuck more inside , feeling tired of trying to clean up. Love your videos, keep making them. Peace from Ohio, USA.
Glad to see another video.
I agree with konmari method....thanks for your videos....i love them
I am also decluttering my papers, clothes and all that stuff. I already threw away a lot of things last year but a few days ago I started again. A lot of old exam papers, notes or clothes I didn’t wear for a while came out. The papers and books were extremely hard to Organize and I also kept my certificates etc. But everytime I declutter and cleanly room I am learning more things about how to be happier and not be bond to things. And is it a lot of better to see everything you own in a tidied up manner :)
Thank you for this. This will help me to declutter a lot from my room this weekend. I really appreciate it.
Also, the picture idea is great for sentimental. Then you don’t have physical baggage.
Thank you for this well explained topic. And what it is better, your video has given to me the "strength" to start decluttering my own room. Thank you very much!!!!
Thank you sir!
I loved the small samari!
Thank you very much!
Clearly you are very decisive during this process and work through it fairly quickly. Have you ever gotten rid of something you regret? My biggest problem is that it does happen that something that has been sitting unused for years and years around the house, I suddenly have a use for again as life evolves!
Beautiful as always, well done!
I will think about it cleaning my room!!! THANK YOU! Greetings from Sopot, Poland and Sypckholm , Sweden
That was the video i was waiting for, but you already made it!
Oh I hoped so much for a video like this! Thank you

I like the City of Whitehorse book. I live in Whitehorse. I'm glad you visited us.
Oh, my dear, I love all my thing and the most of them cause the joy and thankfullness to have them, they all spark joy... but thank you to send me again to my two books of Kon Mari, I have to declutter from my love to the emptyness...
Thank you for taking the time and effort to make this video. It makes it easy to remember the steps to declutter using the Kos Mari method. I've been wanting to declutter my office for a while but keep thinking I need to find and read Kos Mari's book. This video is inspiring me to start decluttering now. So thank you! :)
I love your energy ✨ Joy vibes!
