Thank you for this lovely video. In the 1930s, my great-grandfather had two canaries whose cage he would open in the morning and close in the evening, and they would fly in the house throughout the day. He also had a dog that my grandmother remembered fondly. When WWII broke out and he, my great-grandmother, my grandma, great-uncle, and great-aunt had to leave their house and belongings, my great-grandfather first made sure that his two canaries and dog had a safe home.
The most lovable, singing, beautiful bird I've ever owned has been a red-factor crested-top canary. With a few bites of a little oatmeal cookie he saw me eating one evening, he took to me quickly when I gave him a nibble. I called him "Peaches" because he would stick his head under his wing, with one leg pulled up and sleep on my foot or on my shoulder while we watched TV at night, and he looked like an upside-down peach. I never fed him the stuff so he would turn red, but instead, let him stay an orangish color . He had free flight of the house, except while I was gone when he would be put back in his cage. He loved to stay on my shoulder and with me all the time while I was home. I bought him at a bird show and was drawn to him amongst hundreds of other canaries in the same cage. I don't know what drew me to choose him, but I set my eyes on him, and when he went home with me, it was as though he was so grateful for having freed him from the crowd. It never knew canaries could be tamed to act like that, and thought of them only as singers, but he was as friendly and bonded to me as any parrot. He died after about 7 years, naturally I think,m and I have missed him a lot.
Your video really motivated me to get a Canary. I was hesitant at first thinking they had to be kept in a cage all the time. (I prefer to let my birds free fly) After watching and hearing you say that Canaries will return to their cage, I immediately started preparing for a Canary. It's been a year now and my little female Canary has free flight of my room. At night she will roost on a perch I have high up in the corner of the room. She has a bath twice a day. You weren't kidding about them preferring cold water. During the summer I put ice chips in her bath water and she LOVED it!!
I came back to this video after my sweet Poppy passed away Wednesday. She passed at the exotic vets office. She wasn't feeling well, breathing heavy and she was at the bottom of her cage that morning. I took her in around 9:30am. They suspected her being eggbound after feeling around her belly. The vet took her back to get a quick x-ray. The stress was just too much. Poppy passed right after the x-ray. I am honestly devastated. She was my little office buddy, she had flight time nearly every day. She trusted me, she'd fly to my head or shoulder on occasion. She couldn't sing like a male, but she tried her hardest. One of the happiest birds I've ever seen. I feel like I failed her. I wished there was something I could have done to save her.
Awh so sorry for your loss. She was like my canary Shimmer, the sweetest bird ever. They sure do pull at our heart strings. Did the vet tell you what the xray showed?

I used to have a yellow canary who would sit and wait at his bowl around dinner time because he knew he would get some of the lettuce my mom was eating, it was adorable. He lived a very long and happy life. Now I have a red one and his personality is suuuper different! He’s a sassy pants and for some reason won’t eat his greens! This was such a great video with, lots of valuable information. I bought my male Canary, yesterday, from my local Pet Store. He sells very good, healthy birds and, he owns his own Conure which hangs around him, where ever he goes, in the store. Three months ago, I bought a couple of male Budgies. Their names are Kiwi and Sunny. They are doing very well. I didn't realize the Canary will enjoy fruit and greens or a millet spray so, thank for touching on that. One thing I observed was, the minute he was released into his own cage, he made a bee line for his water dish and, has used it many times. I was, actually, surprised. His name is Skippy because, he skips around! Also, he started singing, immediately. So far, I am delighted in having my three birds. They add such a therapeutic sensation, to my ears. I feel as though I am, always, in Nature. I, also, collect house plants so, you can see the type of environment, I want to spend my time in. Thanks, again.

I hate trimming the nails because I have to handle him which stresses him. I know how to do it but that is the only thing I hate about bird ownership. Great video.
My little yellow canary passed away a day ago. I just can’t get over it. Took her to VMCLI on Longisland for the very first time as her vet was not available. I wasn’t allowed to go in give the covid 19 situation :( and got a call from the doctor saying she just passed away as they tried to give her oxygen. Thank you for this great and informational video! I'm getting ready to get my first canary and I'm concerned about cleaning my apartment with chemicals. We also have a cleaning lady that comes once a month and she is not an "animal" oriented/conscious person - so I think I'm just going to move the canary downstairs to my Mother's apartment when she comes. But in general what are some good tips or practices, house cleaning methods, cleaners, chemicals for bird parents. I’ve currently got 6 budgies that I’ll be moving into an outdoor aviary at the end of the month, I’ll be getting another 2 when the aviary is set up and I was thinking about adding about 4 canary’s, after watching this they seem perfect, my budgies aren’t tame, I just leave them be so canary’s are the perfect bird for me. I just like to watch them
Hi there, good video! Just wanted to mention about drafts. A cold draft can be deadly to any bird especially soft bills. Also, after you spray for mites or scaley leg , always apply mineral oil to their legs and feet on an needed basis. I do my older birds a few times a month, they feel better. Scale squeeze's their legs and feet and can lame them. Keep up the good videos, very helpful. Please don't forget, they will fly into a widow, and get hurt or worse flying into an on ceiling fan. Thanks for your knowledge!!
Thank you for a great video. I'm trying to learn all I can about canary care. My daughter gifted me a 2 year old male crested canary this past mother's day. His name is Ringo. His first song in his new home sounded identical to those car alarms that cycle through different sounds. 😂 He's got a bigger repertoire now..I love his song and he's pretty cute too.
Thank you for the info. A lady found a canary today and handed it to me. So, now I have a canary pet and I still need to learn how to take proper care of it (don't know if it's a male or female, age is probaly 2 by the coloured ring, but nothing is for sure). This video helped me a lot. Certainly concerning what kind of cage I should get it. It's in a small cage right now, to get accustomed to everything new and gives me time to do research and spend the big moneys on a proper cage (wide, not high, didn't know!). And I had no clue how they slept. A perch is fine and it has that. A new adventure.

thanks for your informative videos. I would like to know if it will be possible the let hand tame canaries out in the garden during the day. Will they come back when hungry? Same question about budgies. What do you think? Thanks
thank you for that, I have a canary and usually I have budgies so didn't know too much about them. I have to cut his nails and a bit nervous about doing it. But love his singing !
I don’t have canaries but I have zebra finches who are in the same order as canaries. They are SUPER messy birds but beautiful birds. They love Millet and mint. They also really like preening toys. I made 2 for them and they just destroy It
I think mine have wing cysts 😮,it's very small and the canary is rescued either so it doesn't respond well being caught. When it first arrived I caught it twice to clip some of the nails, it looked very stressed constantly screaming and I don't think I want to repeat it anymore. I give greens and out it in mu indoor garden and buy spray to let it forage
I took my mom's female and now she wants me to take the male. I didn't understand your instructions about the fighting well enough Do I keep the male separated from all canaries or just other males?
Hi...im mike from westcliff on sea.....i rescued a canary a few yrs ago.....the presumtion is hes now around 8 yrs old....each night hes covered away for twelve hours....in the morning hes full of beans and squeeks with delight at seeing new water and food given....he eats seeds celery banana and has block of vitamins....but.......once hes eaten drank and bathed his head hes knackered for ages and nods off occasionally in his seed bowl......hes in an open cage looking out of a window but doesnt come out and fly.....thanks for any advice
Wash your hair just in case LMAO ! He might have left you a present you didn't want ... You forgot to mention the Russian Singer Canary ; the Spanish Timbrado Canary ; The Persian Singer in the song group . Very good video for the novice . Keep it going
I'm having. hard time finding a good flight cage for my canary that isn't really cheaply made. The nicer ones seem to be made tall as well. Do you have any brand recommendations for a 24 inch long or wider cage?
Hello, my parents have a canary and they downsized to a condo. My dad would like to paint but is scared it might not be safe for Bijou. (their little bird) What do you think they should do with Bijou while they paint?
Hi! I have a question! My budgies don’t seem to want to eat any fruits or veggies. Only seeds. Any advice? I figure it’s because they were raised on only seeds, so maybe they aren’t use to veggies and fruits.
Hi, remove their seed before bedtime. Offer fresh foods in the morning as thats when they are the hungriest. Also sprinkle seeds in the fresh foods. Offer chop up in tiny pieces, hang larger pieces next to a perch. Offer in different ways. Hope this helps
Enjoyed your video just found your channel. I have a yellow canary that I found in a city the seagulls were going in for a feed so I saved him. I have him nearly a year now.loved learning about carnies from you.
I had a Red factor Named Ferrari which mostly satyed in cage even when door open. I ended up removing roof , and left it like that always. once and awhile would fly around but always to return to it's cage. was nice
I got 2 canarys one is male one is female I keep them in seprate cages because they can fight there colour is yellow + white the male sings beautifully I feed them different type of foods
So you must be a breeder. If so where do you live and how would I go about getting one. I'm in pa. Rather than buying from pet store. In past have had cockatiel, parakeet, conure.
i enjoyed this video, can you tell me if they are low on dander/feather loss? and also is it not unkind to keep one canary alone? as my husband has allergy probs?
Hi, glad you enjoyed my video. Canaries are low on dander. They do molt at least once a year or twice a year. One male canary should be fine as 2 may fight.
I love how he casually perches all relaxed on her head like he’s thinking ‘oh my warm portable tree, what would I do without you🦜’ 🤣

I would like to know if it will be possible the let hand tame canaries out in the garden during the day. Will they come back when hungry?
Same question about budgies. What do you think?
Thanks
No, they will fly away or get predated on. It's not safe.
thank you for that, I have a canary and usually I have budgies so didn't know too much about them. I have to cut his nails and a bit nervous about doing it. But love his singing !
great video loveofpets
I don’t have canaries but I have zebra finches who are in the same order as canaries. They are SUPER messy birds but beautiful birds. They love Millet and mint. They also really like preening toys. I made 2 for them and they just destroy It
Nice video and cute canaries! My canaries also fly loose in the house, but at the moment they prefer to be in their nest. 😄😍
First time for me to take care canary birds as my pet and they make me feel relax everday
Thank you for sharing your knowledge about Canary's. It is good to be well informed before getting a new pet.
we have an albino ruffled norwegian canary....shes beautiful
Very informative
I LIKE YOUR VIDEO, I MAY WATCH OVER AND OVER AGAIN, THANKS
Thanks for all thous information 💁♀️
My canaries have a lot of room and loves to fly around with the zebra finches and live budgies and two guinea pigs
Howdy! Thank you! That was very informative! Have a great day! :)
Do you recommend paper shredding toys for canary?
I love these videos you should do more :) and I am looking forward to your bird room 2018
Thanks a lot, do anyone have any recommendations for the species?
I took my mom's female and now she wants me to take the male.
I didn't understand your instructions about the fighting well enough
Do I keep the male separated from all canaries or just other males?

My canary hen wasn't prepared for the singing and instantly flipped 😂
I'm having. hard time finding a good flight cage for my canary that isn't really cheaply made. The nicer ones seem to be made tall as well. Do you have any brand recommendations for a 24 inch long or wider cage?
My 2 white canaries love broccoli and apples!.... they like the little swing in their cage.
Where can I find the cages you have for canaries w the big open door?
Hello, my parents have a canary and they downsized to a condo. My dad would like to paint but is scared it might not be safe for Bijou. (their little bird) What do you think they should do with Bijou while they paint?
Hi there , What a good medicine for respiratory infections??
Thank you for sharing your experience
I'am thinking about gettin one for quite some time now, this video Is really helpfull since I know little about theese birds.
2:49 my canary's middle name is now gloster because he has that bowl cut look
max gloster Gladwin, I like it
Can I have a pair in a large cage ? Or do they have to be separate? I don’t plan on having more.
Enjoyed your video just found your channel. I have a yellow canary that I found in a city the seagulls were going in for a feed so I saved him. I have him nearly a year now.loved learning about carnies from you.
Glad you enjoyed my video, that's good you saved him.
I had a Red factor Named Ferrari which mostly satyed in cage even when door open. I ended up removing roof , and left it like that always. once and awhile would fly around but always to return to it's cage. was nice
HOW LOVELY.
Thumbs upped big time and subscribed.
Thank you for subscribing 🤗
I didn't know you could get them out and handle them. My grandma always had a canary
Great video
Cute birds
I got 2 canarys one is male
one is female I keep them in seprate cages because they can fight there colour is yellow + white the male sings beautifully I feed them different type of foods
This is my old account I'm Abdul Hadi oml the fun times I had with my canaries
So you must be a breeder. If so where do you live and how would I go about getting one. I'm in pa. Rather than buying from pet store. In past have had cockatiel, parakeet, conure.
i enjoyed this video, can you tell me if they are low on dander/feather loss? and also is it not unkind to keep one canary alone? as my husband has allergy probs?
Hi, glad you enjoyed my video.
Canaries are low on dander. They do molt at least once a year or twice a year. One male canary should be fine as 2 may fight.
