I discovered you recently, just after deciding that office work was really not for me and going back to school for carpentry, so I could work with wood and then go into woodworking eventually! It's really inspiring and reassuring me I did the right thing! Thanks for the great video and chatoyancy! (Love that word!)

I adore your videos and definitely prefer the longer ones! I love seeing how excited you are to share with us what you know, and it's so fun to pass this knowledge along to my friends. Please don't stop making long videos!!
Thank you for making these and having a passion to share all of these places and beautiful trees with us. I am still very very young and certainly cannot move out on my own yet, but seeing you talk about all these trees and discussing your thoughts as an artist gives me hope for my own future. Even though I haven’t watched your videos for long, I have loved trees and all of nature (but especially trees) with all my heart for years. Its so hard to describe the yearning feeling I have when I see a tree, especially older ones. I wish I could climb high up into their branches and have them tell me stories and tales for weeks on end. I want to know each of their names and I want to be a friend to every one of them. Unfortunately I don’t have the ability to understand trees and trees don’t have the ability to speak to us in a way we understand, but every time I see a tree my heart sings with pure awe and joy at how wise and beautiful they are. I’m an artist too (I think) and I’ve been making my own characters and drawing them for a good 75% of my life. Now I’m all over the place. Drawing, digital drawing, digital animation, painting, writing, letting my imagination run free. I’ve even been trying to get into carving too, so far I’m just practicing by taking sticks my dad finds for me and carving the bark off of them and sanding them with nail filers (not the most effective, but I do my best). I ask myself similar things sometimes, thinking “maybe you should be studying for your science test for 4 hours instead of 2 if you’re just wasting your time drawing for those extra 2 hours you have”, but I know that if what I’m doing makes me happy, I should keep doing it. I’m gonna do my homework and study for my tests of course, but nothing will ever stop me from creating. I know I have a lot of time to decide what I’m going to pursue, but I appreciate you for giving me a new opportunity to see what makes me the most happy- trees! sorry for the long comment that was mostly just filled with me being obsessed with nature, but I just love your videos so much. Please keep doing what you are doing as long as it continues to make you happy!
I found your channel through shorts, and loved all the cool facts you were sharing so I was thrilled to see you making long form videos as well (I honestly don’t like shorts that much). I would love videos of you going out and teaching about trees/talking to other experts!
I'm a college student here in Utah. I've been here my whole life and never realized how amazing the nature here is until I started hiking in the past couple years. I realized how amazing the nature around us is, and I'm glad I stumbled across your channel because I'm discovering Utah in an even deeper way now. I got so caught up in disliking certain parts of the culture here that I didn't realize just how amazing of a place it actually is. Thanks for helping me to broaden my horizons and appreciate the local nature around me even more
I actually got half way through the video, had to stop and put it down for work, but then it was just so relaxing to come back to. Love love love the work and give us more of this goodness!!
I love what you’re saying about art. As a ~* professional *~ illustrator and graphic designer, I’ve always said this. When people tell me they wish they could do what I do, I tell them, the only thing that separates artists and non-artists is the doing. Your art doesn’t have to look like mine (and lol, I am not freakin’ Leonardo Da Vinci over here). It doesn’t have to be lines on paper or shapes on a screen. It can be anything. And it’s worth finding creative outlets no matter who you are. Nothing is more human than art. Art doesn’t have to be a profession or even a hobby one masters over time. So much of what I do is just one off crafting because I want to try it out. Quilting, weaving, embroidery, model making, doll customizing, gardening even. I’ve done some woodworking, too. No one is putting the cardboard model I made of my house in a museum. But it’s all worth it.
I've been watching a lot of woodworking youtube over the past few years, but I have to say I think your channel is really special. The complete absence of un-selfconscious performative masculinity is oh-so refreshing, and the chill, laidback, relaxed approach to not only making videos but woodworking in general is so nice to see. These kinds of videos always make me wish I had access to a workshop so I could try something like this myself, but yours make it feel actually achievable to not only make something "useful", but also make something beautiful just because I want to - all the while making that a low-threshold, low-pressure thing. There's something truly special about that, so thank you!
My name is also Justin and I too have just walked away from my job to start fabricating the things I have always wanted to do and I’m pretty much feeling the way you did and this was great inspiration. Thank you for sharing your passion with the world. Also wanted to thank you for teaching me that I can actually eat certain types of trees
This was exactly what I needed tonight. I'm feeling insecure and sore and clicked on YT seeking comfort and that's just what you gave me. I was kind of upset with myself tonight for not having had more sense about college and career, for not forcing myself away from arts and into a box (I'm a writer but it's not my primary income yet). I don't know if I'm happier or in a better place than I could've been, but I have three wonderful kids who wouldn't be here otherwise, so I can't regret it (LOL they're fans of yours and hope I marry someone cool like you someday). God is working in my life in small, meaningful ways, and I think one of those was allowing me to connect with people like you. Every video you do brings me comfort and encouragement. I don't know how long you'll be doing this for (I hope it's a long time) so I'm grateful for every episode. Also, if you're entertaining new series ideas, maybe you could make a world globe. I'd also be interested in seeing clogs and other traditional shoes (Chinese rice patty shoes?? -I think that's what they're called). Can't wait to see how far you take this channel and your skills.
No chance of getting tired of your voice! You have the perfect voice for this medium, I could listen to you for ages. Your voice is mellow, well modulated, not grating or shrill or annoying like so many UA-camrs, and you come across as genuine and humble. Keep it coming!
I hear you on the college story; I think a lot of millennials had similar experiences. College was always the next step, whether you had a reason or not. I like field guides for learning about plants and animals. REI always has great local books.
You’re my new favorite comfort creative craft tree loving teacher person. I just recently discovered you by chance but I immediately felt the need to stay. It really is calming and soothing just to watch you work and listen to your voice. It all feels very warm and honest. So thank you ~
If I’m being honest, I only seen parts of the video I was really listening to your voice the entire time I found it fascinating. And no I was not tired of your voice I found it call Ming
I've never watched your long form content before, but am so glad I did! Thanks for sharing your passion. I enjoyed the visuals as well as your calming voice.
I’ve just started watching these videos recently and my golly goodness they’ve helped me unwind and fall asleep for the night while also keeping my curiosity peaked for whenever I’m awake. Your words of wisdom truly hits home as I’m heading into my third year of college starting completely anew in a field where everyone discouraged me at one point. Thank you so much for your videos- you’re a cool dude and this is a cool community ♡
I've thought about it a long time and for me art is defined as anything anyone does where they are striving for quality. If someone tries to do something, tries hard, what they make, regardless if they hit their mark or not, is art. It's not all good art, but if they try, then what they make is art.
I really and truly love your videos so much. I was just about to go to sleep and I just wanted to watch something calming and entertaining, and then I saw you posted. It’s so nice being able to see how you do things and you’re videos are definitely some of the best ones to watch for me.
This channel is the best to watch when you feel mentally drained and just want to turn your brain off and listen to a cool dude talking to you in his calm voice. Thanks for all the headache you cured with you calming voice.
You're my new comfort channel and I love your long form content! I hope your channel can grow enough to achieve your dreams of discussing trees with experts from around the world!
Thanks for this video, man. Really got to me towards the end, especially the part we you talk about you self reflected on whether you had the right to make the decision to be a content creator full time. You often don't realize how much you need to hear something to you actually do. Keep doing you man, and we'll be here for the ride.
I have 2 favorite things with your channel! 1 whenever you cook/bake something, it makes me want to try it too! I haven’t baked in ages, but seeing you do it and enjoy what you made is always an inspiration! And 2: your voice is literally awesome - maybe it’s just the parasocial relationship feel, but you just sound genuinely like a very friendly person and it’s amazing. It’s part of the reason I like your long videos a lot! Whenever I have time to watch them, I always try and catch up with whatever new things you posted! Keep up the good work!
Hey man, just wanted to send you a note in the hopes that you see it. You've responded to a few of my comments and that made me dig into your channel some more. Watching you go got me back in the wood shop today. I planed and glued up a bunch of cherry and black walnut to make an end-grain cutting board. I also got out an old cherry endgrain cutting board I glued up and never finished and it's soaking in some 100% tung oil right now. Thanks for saying what you said about art. I have the same conversations with myself as you had in that Juniper tree. It's really nice to be reminded not to make for anyone or anything but just to make. Because that's where the energy is. Thanks for what you do. Hope you keep experiencing tons of success.
I love working with willow. It's got so much natural beauty and I like the smell it gives off when milling it. I'd never thought about turning decorative vases until I saw your doing it. Thanks for the inspiration. I'm currently making one out of some crab apple that my neighbor cut down. She kindly gave me the trunk. I don't know if you've ever used osmo polyx oil but it's my go to for non food related projects. It will add just a bit more shine than what you're getting with the walrus oil and is super easy to apply as well.
Love this vase, currently wishing I was the neighbor, so I could be gifted that. You ARE an artist! And your self reflection discussion was truth everyone should hear from a tree if they would just go outside and LISTEN! Love your connection to all that is.
Thanks for the reminder. I have the worst tendency comparing myself to others in every way possible. When i get the chance i seriously wanna do wood work art like you cause that looks super fun 😍
Looks gorgeous and I really appreciated the reminder to just make stuff and not to get bogged down with it being perceived as valuable, etc. Woodworking is one of my hobbies, but it’s my only creative hobby and I can get too deep into my negative thoughts and self-doubt. So I need those reminders pretty frequently. Keep up the amazing work!!!!!
I'd love to see more of the archival and study aspect of the subject of this channel. I know there are a few other channels where the primary subject is just looking through the archives of various museums and I think this fits right in.
I’ve explained you to a few of my friends and it goes a bit like this “He’s a wood worker but he’s more interested in everything about the tree. It’s fruit, where it’s from, ect. Not just the wood”
I love that people are starting to find your long content! UA-cam really needs to make it easier to save shorts and show that a lot of "shorts" channels are more than shorts channels. I loved going to Lilithfair. The first year they had it was very different than the second, but both were amazing! I have very eclectic music tastes personally.
Love your videos and really appreciate hearing your story. I’m at a similar age going through something just like you described - burned out in a career path I never had passion for but felt I was “supposed” to do - and I find your courage to pursue your passions inspiring! Just what I need as I try to figure out the next stage of my journey.
i love the willow wood, and i love the information about you. it gives me a much better understanding of the “why” behind your content, which is something i’m always curious about when i start following someone
This is going to sound very similar to most of the comments I've seen under this video, but hopefully that doesn't dull anything about it because- your story and interest in trees and how they look, how they're used now or how they've been used in the past- it really inspires me with my own fascination with plants as a whole- I have always loved plants, but more recently I have specifically been trying to learn as many things as I can about them- whether that just be what plant I'm looking at or copying down entire pages of books about how the plant is, or has been, used (and yes, I did really do that.) Watching these videos not only helps with my own fascination and love of nature and plants, but supports someone else's as well, and its really inspiring- plus, it's a nice bonus that I like your voice and content in general, old or new! I only started really watching your videos about a month or two ago, I believe, but I'm so glad I did! I love these videos so much, and, as odd as this may sound, I'm really happy to see someone with this similar interest pull this dream off- it makes me hopeful that I can as well, eventually. 💜
I love trees, and willow trees are my favorite. I have a small cherry blossom willow, and I absolutely love it. I truly enjoy your content, thank you for sharing 😊
OH MY FREAKING GOSH! My profile picture is me on one of our horses in the San Rafael Swell! My family and some of our family friends go down there every Thanksgiving weekend for just a little ride. You made my day! I will talk to people and they have no idea where it is, so I'm so happy that you know where and what it is! Thank you so much!
Love your thoughts on art at the end there - I've been having a lot of struggle with the direction of my life lately too, hearing others talk through their struggle and see how things unexpectedly worked out for them is always really reassuring
I love your videos. I am fascinated by trees and the wood that comes from them. Your shared information about the trees that you work with, is delightful! The recipes that you share are wonderful, too! Thank you for sharing your journey!
Dude if you made a show about traveling all over talking about different kinds of trees talking to experts and locals about them and conservation efforts for certain species, I'd watch all the episodes and buy a DVD set of them, so entertaining and educational.
you've inspired me to try woodworking! i turned a small bowl as a birthday gift for my dad, and it turned out really nice! (no pun intended haha) thanks for doing what you do, your videos are great and i can't wait to see more❤️
Sucks so much when my favorite shorts creators make real videos that get hardly any views. Man it’s so much fun getting to know this dude his content is so informative interesting inspirational and entertaining! ❤
As an aspiring author its nice to see someone who talked themselves out of writing find their creative side again later in life. I know a few people who talked about writing, wanting to do it but then never got a single word down. I'll just echo your sentiment at the end of the vid. Life is too short to wonder about the things you want to do. No matter the art form, there is no way better to find out if you are good at it and or like than doing it. I'm still unpublished but I have two fully written novels, one on its fourth draft the other on its second all while working on a third. Will I ever get them published? who knows, but I know that I don't regret a single second I've spent on them. its also helped me become closer with family and friends who have read them. Keep spreading the good vibes Justin, sentiments from a writing hermit down here in southern Utah.
Thank you so much for everything that you do, you seem like such a cool and genuine person. Thank you for putting yourself out there and making me smile 😊
I love your videos. Because i have a very busy life and if i listen to your voice. Than i feel al the stres go away i want to thank you for that. And also Nice mustache.
Wow. What you said about the tree really hit, literally just had my therapist telling me that for an hour earlier before I watched this, and you really are correct. "JUST DON IT" as Shia LaBeouf would say
I love your content. Short or long. Thanks for all the tree education and also for sharing your experiences in life. I have been feeling the same burn lately.
Wow! So cool. I enjoyed listening to all your stories. Thanks for owning your vulnerability and sharing your journey in life. Going to share with my partner so he can listen too!
It's great to hear a little more about you. I really enjoy your content. My favorite parts are when you make different foods from native or unusual ingredients.
Idk how exactly I got to this channel. It just popped up in my shorts I guess. I’ve been enjoying it and I’m glad the most recent short I saw sent me to the link to this video.
Great video, and excellent q&a! Appreciate you sharing your answers, and especially the growth you underwent pursuing your craft, and the “scolding” that you received! Great inspiration for me, and surely others.
This was really nice! Both the piece and the voiceover. Both interesting and pleasant to listen to. Also a nice thought to give your neighbors a piece of the tree they had to cut down!
I'm really happy I found your channel, and you talking about giving yourself permission to be creative really struck a cord with me. Thanks for putting it to words. Also, I love the colour and texture of the wood, but I'd be interested to see what you can do with the shape of the next vase you make! I'd love to see some sweeping curves and interesting forms!
I’m kind of at a crossroads right now in terms of figuring out what I want to do with my life, and the way that you talked about what you do and how you ended up doing it was really comforting and inspiring to me! I’m so glad I found your videos, I think the stuff you make is super interesting! (also your dog is really cute)
It was fun getting to know you a little better, thanks. Keep doing what you're doing if it makes you happy. I know it makes me happy watching your content. 👍🐶🌲

I enjoy the mix of woodworking, foraging and cooking on your channel.
I found your channel through shorts, and loved all the cool facts you were sharing so I was thrilled to see you making long form videos as well (I honestly don’t like shorts that much). I would love videos of you going out and teaching about trees/talking to other experts!
Honestly your videos bring me joy, like your voice calms me for some reason. Best wishes on this channel, Liebe aus Deutschland!
There is nothing I love more than listening to someone who is passionate about what they do
I'm a college student here in Utah. Thanks for helping me to broaden my horizons and appreciate the local nature around me even more
Thank you. I enjoy your videos and the perspective.
Loved those ending words ❤ I’m so thankful for your love and outlook on trees. It’s contagious
The word humble is sacred of this man, you are peak human, wholesome energy on top!
I keep forgetting why I love trees and woodworking until I watch your videos!♥♥♥your stuff is amazing
The trees speak to you is the sweetest thing I have heard you ever say.
I've never watched your long form content before, but am so glad I did! Thanks for sharing your passion. I enjoyed the visuals as well as your calming voice.
honestly, the woodworking is just good background to the knowledge about trees, and the cooking. love everything about this channel
These videos are equal parts educational, entertaining, and relaxing. Thank you so much for your channel and your Utahn presentation!
This was a great way to transition viewers from shorts to long form. Hope you find success with it
Love this vase, currently wishing I was the neighbor, so I could be gifted that. You ARE an artist! And your self reflection discussion was truth everyone should hear from a tree if they would just go outside and LISTEN! Love your connection to all that is.
Good to know I'm not the only little gremlin scavenger around here!
Also, thank you for answering my questions! Keep up the great work!
This channel is the best
I’ve explained you to a few of my friends and it goes a bit like this
“He’s a wood worker but he’s more interested in everything about the tree.
Your videos have made me so much more aware of how many different colors of wood I see every day. Thanks! 👍🏼
'The shelf of chaos' 🤣🤣 Marvellous phrase.
CHEERS TO THE CHAOS PILE!! Thank you for sharing your beautiful creations and more of yourself with us!
Also, 90s jams are the best!
This is going to sound very similar to most of the comments I've seen under this video, but hopefully that doesn't dull anything about it because- your story and interest in trees and how they look, how they're used now or how they've been used in the past- it really inspires me with my own fascination with plants as a whole-
I have always loved plants, but more recently I have specifically been trying to learn as many things as I can about them- whether that just be what plant I'm looking at or copying down entire pages of books about how the plant is, or has been, used (and yes, I did really do that.) Watching these videos not only helps with my own fascination and love of nature and plants, but supports someone else's as well, and its really inspiring- plus, it's a nice bonus that I like your voice and content in general, old or new! I only started really watching your videos about a month or two ago, I believe, but I'm so glad I did! I love these videos so much, and, as odd as this may sound, I'm really happy to see someone with this similar interest pull this dream off- it makes me hopeful that I can as well, eventually. 💜
Trees are amazing! What they can be used for is incredible.
I love trees, and willow trees are my favorite. I have a small cherry blossom willow, and I absolutely love it. I truly enjoy your content, thank you for sharing 😊
Your videos are my self care routine 🥰
OH MY FREAKING GOSH! My profile picture is me on one of our horses in the San Rafael Swell!
My family and some of our family friends go down there every Thanksgiving weekend for just a little ride.
You made my day! I will talk to people and they have no idea where it is, so I'm so happy that you know where and what it is! Thank you so much!
This man gotta be the most genuine individual out there
Love your thoughts on art at the end there - I've been having a lot of struggle with the direction of my life lately too, hearing others talk through their struggle and see how things unexpectedly worked out for them is always really reassuring
Absolute banger mate love the channel much appreciation from down under
I love your videos.
I am fascinated by trees and the wood that comes from them. Your shared information about the trees that you work with, is delightful!
The recipes that you share are wonderful, too!
Thank you for sharing your journey!
Dude if you made a show about traveling all over talking about different kinds of trees talking to experts and locals about them and conservation efforts for certain species, I'd watch all the episodes and buy a DVD set of them, so entertaining and educational.
i’m so glad my question was answered for this! love your content and it’s so inspiring to me to learn more about trees
you've inspired me to try woodworking! i turned a small bowl as a birthday gift for my dad, and it turned out really nice! (no pun intended haha)
thanks for doing what you do, your videos are great and i can't wait to see more❤️
Sucks so much when my favorite shorts creators make real videos that get hardly any views.
And also
Nice mustache.
Willow here- Thank you for highlighting how neat my tree cousins are!
Also, I’m enjoying the long form content!
Thank you. Never get sick of your voice. Great content.
It's great to hear a little more about you. I really enjoy your content. My favorite parts are when you make different foods from native or unusual ingredients.
Tapped the link and watched the video while I was making breakfast, that was lovely. I’m sure your neighbors will adore the gift
I see you as a natural artist. You show us the beauty in the.wood. i love watch whats inside!!😊
Your story is inspiring..you make it seem simple to find your way to happiness..🙏
Idk how exactly I got to this channel. It just popped up in my shorts I guess. I’ve been enjoying it and I’m glad the most recent short I saw sent me to the link to this video.
When I first found your channel I was bummed that it was mostly shorts I was seeing. These king form videos are so great, love what you do man!
I'd love to see some sweeping curves and interesting forms!
this is my absolute favorite series on all of youtube
I’m kind of at a crossroads right now in terms of figuring out what I want to do with my life, and the way that you talked about what you do and how you ended up doing it was really comforting and inspiring to me! I’m so glad I found your videos, I think the stuff you make is super interesting! (also your dog is really cute)
It was fun getting to know you a little better, thanks. Keep doing what you're doing if it makes you happy. I know it makes me happy watching your content. 👍🐶🌲
