You don't have clean streets or clean water, but you want self-driving cars.

Absurd that arguments are being made against the safety of autonomous vehicles in Georgia when literally every vehicle crash, human injury or death, animal injury or death, and property damage in the history of Georgia has taken place with human beings behind the wheel. Every day around ATL, we've got half the lanes on the highway blocked because human driven vehicles have crashed. We're constantly hearing stories of people driving 20, 30, 50mph beyond the speed limit on Buford Highway or Peachtree Industrial. Yes, testing and ensuring these autonomous vehicles, their hardware/software, and safety redundancies are in working order is critical. But shying away from an obvious technological revolution and benefit to humanity is absurd. The people complaining about this would have been complaining 100 years ago about having electrical wiring running through the walls of homes , due to the potential for fire.
Do it right and this will change the world for the better.

All people are asking for is to "do it right" and not give us fake or staged safety test like one company did. And why the hate for human backup in case of failure?

Right. So lets add more mayhem by adding cars that can be hacked, have no driver to correct a computer error--and there are A LOT of glitches, and are eyesores to our beautiful downtowns.
We banned em here because they caused more problems than they solved, and didn't make enough tax revenue to offset the towing, breakdowns, collisions, and disarray they caused.

    •  21 день тому +2

@@MrProy33 Wow sure sounds like a lot of problems. If only the people who built them had brains which might allow them to iterate and improve the vehicles over time. You know, like literally every other technology. It's amazing how you can list off all these potential problems as though they're unsolvable... But nothing about all of the real human-caused problems on the road right now which took 45,000 lives in 2022 and injured many hundreds of thousands. And eyesores? As opposed to all the other hideously ugly vehicles on the road? Virtually all sports cars are eyesores and earsores as well. Not to mention all the stationary eyesores in cities. What a bizarre complaint.
Let's not allow the testing and development (what this video is referencing) of the new technology... Let's just stick to humans who in significant proportion speed, don't use their turn signal, tailgate, erratically change lanes, race each other, drive under the influence of mind altering substances, take their eyes off the road so they can text/tweet/watch videos, and all the rest of it. Let's just ignore all of those problems that continue to not be solved over the generational history of human driving, but nitpick, cry about, and ban an emerging technology that is clearly in its infancy and has billions of dollars of R&D behind it to improve it with the goal of eliminating crashes, injuries, and death. I don't know where and who you are referring to being banned from your city; my guess is you're referring to GM's Cruise which had their license to operate pulled in California and then they voluntarily withdrew elsewhere to shore up their systems. Their license was suspended not because of the car, but the humans running the company were not being transparent with the DMV regarding some incidents. As for Waymo, owned by Alphabet/Google, the company in this video, their service hasn't been banned anywhere they've operated thus far.
Again, if you were around 100 years ago, you'd be demanding no electrical wiring in homes because of the unsolvable hazard of fires being started by the wires. Or no electronic traffic lights because after all, circuitry can be fried and malfunction. Or no autonomous electricity and water meters at homes, because clearly the utility company will clearly have them rigged so customers pay more than they should. The list goes on and on and on.

If they're not bringing a service here, hopefully there's no tax benefits they're getting for this experiment.

They need the data = acceptable losses. Which they will then turn around and deny and fight financial liability for.

Will the cars themselves have to pay for all the camera tickets they'll surely accumulate? Some scofflaws call them extortionate, but guaranteed safety is mighty expensive!

To be honest people will think it was beyond strange that humans were ever allowed to drive, once automation takes over.

😮 Learn from their mistakes? Why not give someone a job? Hire drivers? I don’t get it.

There are not enough drivers to fill demand for transportation. People are just not interested to be drivers when they have alternatives like office job. Not to mention that it can be a lot cheaper for everyday Joe
