If he was more famous , Matt Damond could play him.
He’s Ratt Damon - the hard rocking metal Damon brother 👍
Not only his face, but his voice too!
Holy crap he does sound like him!
Who's Matt Damond?
@@alanwoodwind5265 he’s that guy from those movies.
Love this. I know it’s been said before but there’s never been a good comparison before to prove the haters wrong lmao
I'm waiting for someone to come in and tell me they listened on their $4,000 monitors in their $20,000 treated room and let me know all the reasons I'm wrong. LOL
Good video, what kills me is the people who (since Eddie's passing) have jacked the price on the 5150's to ridiculous numbers. The sound difference is so minuscule and I think the 6505 is slightly better. Also people don't take into account that components wear out over time so you could by an over inflated 5150 and it will sound like crap and cost even more to get it up to par if it's never been maintained properly (i.e. caps, transformers, tubes and the like)
@@belligerentamateur James Brown already did: ua-cam.com/video/PzOhq3-3d90/v-deo.html
Two of the best sounding amps ever made...The resonance knob was brilliant...
They sound exactly the same. Great video to prove it. No bullshit. 🙏
That's what I aim for man. Thanks for hanging out!
Picking up a 6505 in great condition for 400$ next week. As usual your vids absolutely rock.
An og 6505???
@@psycheadfuzzfreak830 yup! Absolutely rocks
@@tylert812 wow that’s a deal!! Lucky dude !
@@psycheadfuzzfreak830 definitely got lucky! Eventually I’ll upload some videos playing through it.
great deal! get a boost OD pedal and noise gate and you will have a killer setup.
Every stock 6505 or 5150 is original because the bias settings can be different. There is no chance to adjust bias to hot or cold side so it is driven by power tubes. Even the same brand matched tubes can give you different values. If it is not very low or very high it is ok (for Peavey factory). New stock 6505 can be in 35% to 65% bias range and if you choose two 6505, they can sound different on the same settings.
Very true, There is a bias mod one can install in these amps. I did it on my 5150II. Made a big diff in cleaning up the clean channel BTW
Mmm the 6505 sounded better to me . Maybe tubes were newer . Was listening with earphones
Nailed it, same amp! As you said, component tolerances, which apply to different amps of the exact same make/model too, is all there is. And you covered what I think gets most people, that the taper of potentiometers differs, so just setting them identical on two of the same amps can result in a slight difference, but it's not because the amp's circuits are different, with slight tweaks to the knobs they will sound identical.
You got it man, it's wild people still argue this to me
3:47 best part 😂 totally agree though buy the $400 6505 instead of $1000+ 5150 people!!
Where are you finding 6505’s for 400? I must know
@@swampman543211 same, im getting one for 650 cause can't find any cheaper haha
I think the 5150 sounds better because 5150.
Eddie's mojo
Good video bro subed.
Of course they're the same amp. Peavey still had the patent on the amp. Eddie only took the name when he went to fender for amps.
Rediculous how much prices on 5150 have gone up though.
Could be fun to compare Chinese 6505 vs USA 6505, (assuming your 6505 here is USA?) I have seen a few comparisons but no really good ones like this one
Really interested in this too. I know the new chinese 6505 ships with different transformers. And we know the overall construction quality might be different so, yeah, very legit request.
I'll try and see if I can find one! This one is a USA Model. I'm down to do whatever people want to see and think would be helpful. I'm going to do a shootout like this for the 6505+ head and the 6065+ 112 Combo soon as well!
@Eric Lussier all the 6505 line (and almost all Peavey stuff, I reckon) has been produced in China since 2015. The +112 combo was the first one before that, the rest followed that year.
I bought the +112 combo roughly when they came out (2012 maybe?). It's a good amp, but those early ones had some quality issues, it seems. It lacks a bit of balls compared to the big heads (I now use the 120 watts 6505), but it'll give you the 6505+ tone, especially if you run an eq on the effects loop to give it extra oomph.
@@belligerentamateur hope to hear that 112+ comparrison! I have a 112+ converted to head, one video on my channel so far. Sounds different to the 5150/6505 for sure, but that likely had more to do with being a Plus.
I have the 5150, script logo, its really really good.... I have repaired and played a Voodoo modded one as well, it was bonkers, but there is something special about a stock one
Thanks for beating the dead horse. Some people still don't believe the horse is dead
I'm about to beat an even dead-er horse and do the Block Letter vs Script video haha
thank you Matt Damon - love your playing!🔥🖤🤘 btw... what was your signal chain.... IR or Mesa Trad412?

@@belligerentamateur sounded GREAT🖤🔥🤘😡🤘🖤🔥
Love my 6505+
My first tube amp was an ibanez thermion. Never really heard many tube amps before. One day I come across a used 6505+ at GC and thought I'd see what the hype was about. Needless to say she went home with me that day.
They're just good, easy to play and dial in amps
A 5150/6505 are great amps.
They are great bass amps as well
Ive have a few since 1991. The first was a block letter evh . It had eletro harmonics tubes so it did sound more articulate
The newer amps are made in china
I think very different
Great video. I own the 6505 and I'm extremely satisfied. The tone is huge, the gain is controllable and it plays perfectly well with active/passive pickups (Fishman Modern hub and Dimarzio Evolution 7).
The clean channel is also not that bad as many people say (maybe it doesn't sound good with EMG's). The crunch mode is not really that good but I don't use it a lot so it's ok. The only real problem is the FX loop.
One of the best advantages of the 5150/6505 is that it plays well with most cabs, which is not always the case for other amps.
Both are Brilliant, all hail James Brown , RIP EVH.
Nice.....the only thing is your beating the piss out of your Explorer with pick scratches 🤣 keep up the cool videos ✌🏻
If you don't beat them, do you really love them? This is definitely about guitars.
It could also be the caps on the 5150 as to why it didn't sound as big on the same settings. Those are so old by now, it's getting time for all of them to need a cap refresh. That's why I always recommend anyone buying these, to get a newer or as new as possible 6505 because they're the same dang thing.
They are exactly the same amp, internals exactly the same.
Correct
Yeah but people with 5150 BLOCK LETTERs have the biggest PPs. This is known.
What if I have ALL 3. Do I have a GOD TIER PP?
@@belligerentamateur Galaxy PP
Nice comparison. Cool explorer!
Thanks man! Haven't touched my explorers in a year, I figured they deserve a comeback! Lol
5150 is ever so slightly tighter. There’s some compression in the low mids. Same voicing for both amps tho.
Slight difference that you will get forget after 5 seconds, like you said.
I'm picking up a 6505+ tomorrow. Super stoked!
Owned both. Both sounded so wonderful! The best amps I’ve ever owned!
Great video! First time I've seen a comparison like this to demonstrate that there is basically no difference. I have a handfull of great high gain heads, but always seem to gravitate to my 6505+. I really heard little differences....until you tweaked the eq, then, BOOM. Same amp. New sub! \,,/
Rumors get started on the internet, and soon others get behind the rumors, and it starts to spread like a wildfire, then someone comes along, and puts out the fire, showing that the rumors were just that, rumors. Thanks for comparing these amps, and showing that they are exactly the same, with just a few slight tweaks here and there. If your looking to get one of these monster amps, just find the best deal you can get, and let-r-rip, I love my 6505+ head. I traded my Laney GH100 head for it, and couldn't be happier.
I have $20.000 studio monitors and I have just discovered that you are sitting in a fairly untreated room... Very bad... Me so disappointed with you 🤪
They sounds a bit different. What about reliability?
My 5150 block sounds better than any 6505 because it's mine and has Eddie's signature.
3:47 I'm full of shit then because the 6505 has a different sound to me. Idc. It's less crunchy (like an 80s Metallica tone) and more compressed like say machine head. Just my opinion.
Are you the love child of John Cena and Matt Damon? Haha, seriously, great video!
Difference is only unit variation in the pots.
i like the mids of the 5150 more
After he tweak on 3.30 the sound are dead same😂😂😂.....
There you go, now the price of the 6505 will skyrocket, just kidding, the minute you touched resonance and presence really can't tell the diference bettween the two, great amps
Agreed man! People like the bragging rights of the 5150, plus now that Eddie has passed, people are trying to push them as collectors items even though the market is littered with them. Silly
The price skyrocketed on oct.6 where were you
But the BLOCK letter sounds different from both of those😅
So very true you sound the same in both amps now if you yourself play in other amps you are still going to sound like yourself really true tone is really coming from a individual way before guitar pedals and amps but yes both amps sound the same in drop D
Try a Sovtek LPS in the phase inverter 🤘🏻great vid once again!
That's part of the secret sauce! Haha. I just don't have any extras at the moment to throw in these amps, but that's a great PI tube
They sound the same.....how do you like them apples? 🍎
so this is what you've been doing in Kimmel's waiting room, huh...
Cheers. I get really bored with douchebags starting up FB threads about the differences between these amps. Also the presence of the block letter logo is considered some secret sauce
Great Video. I have been looking to add the original 5150 to my collection but looks like now I can save some money and grab a 6505 🤘😎
Yeah baby, spend smart. Leave the bragging rights to the internets!
Thank you, just the video I needed to prove some idiots wrong.
Question for FAQ’n Friday. Would you go with an original EVH 5150 III 6L6 50 watt or a Peavey 5150/6505 (assuming they cost the same). I have the EVH and am always loving the sound when I hear someone playing a peavey.
I also don’t really care about Eddie himself. Might be opportunistic, but I’m thinking it’s a good time to sell the EVH and get a 6505 if it’s indeed a better amp.
I'll definitely answer
Where's the block letter brigade?? lol
Yea their the same amp. You pay more for the 5150 I think.
I actually picked up a used peavey 6505 and honestly it’s one of the amps I’ve been wanting for so so so so so long, got it for about $600 and I seriously couldn’t be any happier with that thing it’s seriously very ferocious sounding and just a damn beast overall! What’s your settings on both amps? Would love to know man! Keep it up!
They're THE metal amp for a reason man! They're just untamed beasts. Love them. I usually run somewhere around 6-6-6- on the EQ, presence around 8 and resonance around 6, Pre gain at 3 with a boost out front!
I got mine through a guitar trade and the amp was practically brand new. Dude didn’t want it since it had to much gain for his taste. Glad I made the trade. I also swapped out the power tubes for some 6l6 JJ’s as well as in the pre amp section and the amp sound a bit tighter 🤘🏽
@@markolivares6943 Sounds like you got real lucky sir (;
I have this amp and hate it. idk why I keep buy this amp. its the 6th one I have own.
like 660! woohoo! 6 more to the mark of the beast!!
Put the Ultra plus 120 against them.
After the adjustment they sound the same......
Hey dude I think it might be a good idea to add some lighting so we can see your eyes better
If one day I'll buy an amp it will be 6505
6505 shootout vs Badlander please
Consider it done. Well, within a couple weeks. Lol
This was an interesting video. I own both a USA made 6505+ and an original 5150 block letter. The 5150 sounds a little more scooped and overall just better and smoother. The 6505+ is really harsh and bright. I have to dial the treble, presence, and mid controls waay back to get it to sound similar to the 5150. Even then, there's a little difference. Idk if it's because my 6505 is the + version and my 5150 is the regular version, but they are not at all the same amp. However, your amps sound almost identical
that's because the amp in his video is a 6505, not a 6505+
6505=5150
6505+=5150 II
right on...sounds the same to me
6505 a touch more gain
Tengo un 5150, prove mano a mamo ambos, suenan igual.
I owned a Peavey 6505 for a while and played EVH 5150 amps and no way they sound very different in terms of gain structure, compression, saturation and feel. The 6505 needs a clean boost to tighten up the low end and EQ pedal or it sounds like a wet blanket fart. With boost, noise gate and EQ, the amp comes alive and is super amazing. But the 5150 has these issues sorted out and is the better amp in my book. I would love a custom made USA EVH 5150. Hard to find and expensive.
You're talking about 2 different amps. The Peavey 5150 and 6505 are a totally different amp circuit made by a different company than the EVH 5150 series. Also, there is no such thing as a USA made EVH 5150. Not even custom made. Peavey made the "block letter" 5150 in the USA. EVH has never made any 5150 amps in the US.
The departed channel
5150 is better!
Great video
Kyle: 6505 and 5150 comparison...I'm gonna have to science the shit out of this. Biggest difference is their prices on Reverb.
I have a nonplus 6505 and it gets BRUTAL! I had a 5150 Block letter but didn’t have them at the same time to A/B. Both amazing amps. I definitely Regret selling that 5150 now!
I've bought and sold probably 10 block letters in the last 10 years. I would have stockpiled them had I have known how much the value would skyrocket
@@belligerentamateur man I got mine for $550 last year on Reverb!!!
It’s not a question it’s the same freaking amp just a different name plate do you think they changed products on the assembly line when they were making it 🙄
That would be the purpose of this video, my friend!
I love your attitude. Exactly how I feel. Like that comment about if you could hear that I’d say your full of shit lol!
Scored my 6505+ USA head a few years back for $400. Absolutely killer.
You can also find same differences with same amp, two 5150's or two 6505's.
Thanks.
I hear the difference. A little but 5150 is more creamy and a little darker..Id prefer 5150 in this comparison. BTW the main character is the same
If there where a 6505 and a 6505+ available which would you choose?
5150 usa made and the other made in china?
both USA made but that doesn't matter anyways
For clean tone versatility , which is better, 6505+ vs mesa mini rectifier?
the only difference i hear is that the 6505 is slightly brighter tone but its very subtle
In all fairness, it's like the argument of whether wood material in a guitar body makes a difference in tone.. I don't know what pickups you're running but if they're over 12k at the bridge or active (especially ceramic magnets) there is going to be less of a noticable change. They are indeed the same amp and the biggest difference between the two would be if the 5150 has a s**t ton of hours with the components aging. However it's not like old Fender or Marshalls where older technology in parts drifted values a lot more. The transformers what I can tell aren't much different, even though James stated the first block letter run versions were a little beefier, but the current ones are still pretty stout.
Fuck yeah! Loved this video!
Awesome tones and the guitar is cool too!
I have subscrived!
Id love to see you reviewing the 6505MH. Do you have any review?
Cheers from Portugal 🍺🤘🇵🇹
the 6505 sounds healthier. but tone wise yea pretty identical.
I’m curious what drop d would have sounded like
Oh, the 5150 inflation is from Eddie dying. I get it now.
Yessir
Which makes the opportunists 500% more fucked up. Anyone selling a 5150 for more than $800 is human garbage.
Yeah but is there a difference between the block letter and the signature? (There isnt)
Awesome Vid! Was this recorded with the camera mic or with a mic/interface/daw?
late to the channel. Sick stuff dude. Cheers!
The only thing that's noticeable to me personally was that the 5150 seemed to have a smidge less saturation than the 6505, and that's about it lol other than that, they sound identical.
Watched a video with James Brown (I think on Dave Freidman's channel?) and it was a blast hearing him talk about developing the 5150 1 and 2 with Eddie. I keep thinking I should get one of those but I don't play enough to warrant another dang amp.
It would be interesting to hear one of those amps with EL34s. But it's not sure the transformers can handle four of those power tubes. Just because EL34s draw more current than 6L6s. It also depends if pin 1 is tied to ground and what are the values of the grid resistors. Of course the bias will need to be properly adjusted. Maybe that's too much for some people?
Awesome tone!
Thank you!!
check also the bias, very important!
You can't adjust the bias on these amps my man.
@@belligerentamateur first of all, 90% of 6505 /5150 out there have bias mod installed, its just one resistor to swap. otherwise you can choose between hotter and colder tubes. "check" means that he just have to look if both amps are biased nearly the same, of not, this will be the answer why they sound little different in the power section. i have peaveys with stock bias of just 16ma, other hat 35ma..
both sound better than the EVH heads
I’ve have my 6505 since 2014 and it’s never let me down. I play at home with the volume cranked at 2 with no boost. Pre 5.5 Low 2.5 Mid 6 high5.5 Post 2.0 Resonance 2.5 Presence 5 🤘🏽
They are pretty similar.
Sounds pretty much the same.
6505 maybe a slight warmer🤘
small difference is a difference. at what point in smallness do we no longer count the difference as adifference. - as long as it different, its a difference .. around 4:35 the change brought slight increase in presense, noticable increase.
Just like the video says, differences in tolerances are not a difference in design. That's the answer, you're asking a dead question.
@@belligerentamateur the dead question part has me stumped. are you saying my question of "at what point of smallness do we not count the difference as a difference"? its not dead or alive, its just valid. each of us may have different opinions of what we consider small ,difference. ,thats all. and you said sometinhg about You cant tell any difference,so I mentioned at that part I do hear a difference. .....small large, not important, important, . no biggie imo.
Great Video Bro!!!!!
They are just too similar to me. I will also comment on the block letter thing. I owned a 1992 (EVH) and 1996 (Script) at the same time. They were taken to the local tech and pulled out of the chassis. There was ZERO difference in them. The only extremely subtle difference were the preamp tubes each one had. You could dial them in to sound identical. I do not understand the hype or the stupid price behind them. All block letter means to me is that it is the earliest version of the 5150 and it needs a recap. I had a 6505+ and a 5150-II which also could be dialed in to sound identical. Of course you can play 5 amps of the same type and one may shine above the rest, although the 5150's were very consistent. Just my experience.
That was the whole point of this video haha
Should have tested the noise floor on both but well done
....should do a shootout with the Invective 120 also
On the list!
Great Demo, Love the 6505/5150 amps
Just bought a 6505+ becuase of this video. Great analysis man. My explorer was the first one to be played through it!
