Great review, I have the Gen 1 Beam with 2 Sonos Surrounds and the Sonos Sub Mini which as of now sounds fantastic but I was thinking of upgrading to the Gen 2 Beam but after watching you honest review I think I will stay with the Gen 1 for now as im more than happy with the quality of the sound.

The Beam is $790 NZD and the sub is $1200NZD in my country, so that's not only a couple of hundred more.

By far the best review I have seen - honest and without carrying the Sonos hype Wish I had watched this BEFORE I bought the Gen 2. I like the Beam 2 but it is not what I was led to believe it was going to by after watching the 12/15 reviews I have seen.

@@syngonsmythe38 Small room would be great, esp if you add rear speakers (sonos or the IKEA symfonisk). Mine sounds terrific (esp dialogue) when you are sitting in front of it watching Movie etc I read some reviews that suggested the beam was sooo good it was near the Arc level of performance. I was mostly disappointed with the width of the soundstage when you stand 4-5m back.

That’s awesome! Yeah it’s perfect for a small room and adding the rear speakers or subwoofer certainly help the performance. My comment was in regards to the way people are comparing it to the Gen 1… it’s not a huge leap forward but more updates the internals to keep up with other 2021 Soundbars. Enjoy using it 😊

Thanks for ur review. I had beam G2 + sub+ one sl X2. It works very well with Dolby Atoms when watching "Tomorrow's War", but it takes 4 wi-fi or Ethernet connections, + one more for Smart Tv. Ordinary internet user only has 7 devices usage. So if have PC and others, the sound system might not reliable. And it needs with Apple phone for tuning and airplay. Fortunately, Sonos is good for return. How about Sony ht-a9 or Jbl bar 9.1 requirements for network resources? Really appreciate your can also check these with your another review.

Thanks Devan. Yes there are other soundbars that for the same price as the Beam would sound better because they come with a subwoofer and potentially rear speakers too. I personally wouldn't go for the SN11 as it was a bit underwelming in performance but any of the Samsung Flagship models from the past few years are awesome or even the JBL 5.1 surround sound would be a great option... Hi Josh... Great video! I'm a new subscriber, and totally green in selecting the ideal system to help compliment our new 4K TV with eArc (Hisense U8G 65in)... I'm hoping you can point me in the right direction... I just purchased the Sonos Beam Gen 2 for our Living Room (smaller space with ideally no room to add rear speakers)... I simply wanted a great quality soundbar that was simple, compact, and no mounting required (sits underneath TV). I initially purchased the Gen 2 due to Dolby Atmos and future proofing... Our family generally watches news, movies, sports, and some music like for this time during the holidays... Here's my question: Would you recommend me keeping the Gen 2 and add on to it, like the Gen 3 Sub, or even adding two (2) Ones, or should I look at purchasing the Arc by itself, or a even different set up altogether like Bose or JBL? I was looking for the best bang for my buck, while trying to keep my investment under $1000.00... What would you suggest? Your input and feedback would be greatly appreciated... Thanks

I was sort of “fooled” by other reviewers that said the improvements from Gen 1 were pretty noticeable/significant.
In my opinion, the improvements are very minimal. Probably due to the fact that I also already have One SLs for surrounds and the Sub. Having said that, I used to notice some clipping coming from the centre channel speaker in Gen 1. Gen 2 no longer has this problem.
