@@PeterPee Yes, upgrade for our bedroom Beam G1. The G1 was my introduction to Sonos and since then we been slowly expanding to 5.1 and Arc in our living room. My parents have an LGC8 were I believe they can still get good use out it.

Peter, if I only want Dolby Atmos lossless from streaming services (Netflix, Prime, Disney+, etc), is the FireTV 4K Max combined with the Beam 2 a good option? I have a TV with ARC HDMI port, which is able to pass-through Atmos in DD+ format
I just recently bought 2 sonos ones gen 2’s off a friend and now I’m thinking of buying the sonos beam gen 2. That way the can connect all together. Do you recommend this setup over the JBL 5.1 sound bar?

Hey Peter, great videos especially since i've been considering an upgrade to Sonos. for a small/medium size room, would you say that a Beam Gen 2, and some One's as rear speakers surround would suffice over the Arc?
For a small/medium size room, yes. And if you are still not pleased then, put the money towards the sub. I used to have problems recommending the beam over the arc in some cases but now, with the beam gen 2, go for it! And put the money differential towards the sub!

It will just be DTS. No DTS:X according to their announcement and after I clarified with Sonos.

Hi great breakdown of the gen 2. Would you recommend buying the sub or surrounds first in a room 15’3” x 11’9”
My room is similar size wise, I have Gen 2 with two Ones and it seems like I have plenty of bass at the moment. It seems like the Ones take the pressure off of the Beam having to produce the bass.

Quick question. Need your recommendation. Best setup - Arc with two Gen 3 subs and one SLs as surrounds or Arc with one Gen 3 sub and 5s as surrounds. These two setups are approximately the same cost. 95% of my use is movies and streaming movies and sports. My TV is the 83” LG C1. No gaming. Thank you for your advice.
Wow, that C1 and either array would be a killer setup but I think that an extra sub would be overkill. I would go with the two Fives and one sub if I were choosing though.

I find that if the distance between the beam and the rear wall is close... and you are sitting back against the rear wall, the effects are truly mind-blowing.

Those in the comments can help. I have a TCL 6-series TV from 2019, it did not come with an eARC port, but TCL earlier this year supposedly added eARC and VRR with a Roku update. Will eARC still work? I can get Dolby Atmos through Dolby Digital+, but I'm not sure about eARC.

Hello Peter, thank you for your reviews! Sonos claims an improvement of the voices clarity with the Beam Gen 2 (thanks to a new central tweeter). The issue of dialogues clarity is very important to me and I chose the Beam because it was very good in this field.
Have you noticed any improvement with the Gen 2 ?
From what I heard in the review for non-atmos movies, this is not obvious, it would even be the opposite.

Thanks for asking that! I was going to test that out definitively with an AB testing setup but I was not able to get to that. The vocal range is indeed very much present but how much of a difference that is from the Beam Gen 1 I am unable to conclusively determine.
Does it still have problems with sound lag with the LG OLED? Perhaps this Black Friday there might be a great deal for this.

I can get a good sound for a room 12 X 15 and ceiling 12 feet tall the room is back open to conect with kitchen. So do u think with sonos beam 2 and 2 sonos one I can get a good sound
Your ceiling is pretty high. And the room is actually more suited for a Sonos Arc. My ceiling height is about 12 feet too and I am using an Arc.
So literally just installed the Gen 2 beam and 2x OneSL's. Disappointed in the Gen 2 sounds! It sounds hollow and lacking bass compared to the Gen 1. Or is it just clearer so sounds brighter?? Also, since moving to the S2 sonos app i can't find the voice enhancement button anymore!
It sounds a little brighter. And because it uses phased array to simulate Atmos, some bass notes can get lost depending on the mix you’re listening to.

Your original Beam settings really made my bedroom setup sound amazing, any early recommendations on what to set it at? I'll probably upgrade on Tuesday and sell off the Beam 1 in my bedroom!
I am still at the stage of getting used to the Beam Gen 2 sound. I need to be familiar with it before I can tweak it to be "better". Else it will just be different.
@@PeterPee I set mine at plus 3 for bass and plus 6 for treble after true play Tuning this works best for me 👍🏻

Hey bro I have a question for you where I need you to convince my wife that using homepod minis as our surrounds with our beam is ruining the sound ahah. Also, I bought a sonos arc w/ sub gen 3, and a sonos beam gen 2 with 2 symphoniks bookshelfs. But now my wife wants to use the bookshelfs with the arc and keep using our homepod minis as our “surrounds” through airplay 2 with the beam from apple tv 4k, even though they are working as front left and right behind us. And then I realized the dam Apple tv 4k won’t support Atmos through hdmi ARC (the tv Im using the beam with is a Samsung NU8000 and only has arc :/, the tv Im using the arc with at least has eARC, Sony X900H ) and so Im kind of pissed off and don’t want to spend 250$ for the hdfury arcana. It’s stupid, because the streaming apps only use Dolby Digital + for Atmos, yet Apple claims they use a “high quality” version of Atmos that doesn’t work with hdmi ARC.. like come on, what a load of lies! So how much am I missing if I (can even get my wife to use dolby digital) by not using the Atmos with the gen 2? With dolby digital 5.1 is there still any benefit of the gen 2 over the beam gen 1??
And again, can you please explain to her in a comment that the homepod minis as “surrounds” through airplay 2 is ruining the experience, because then we don’t even get dolby digital 5.1! And they are front speakers but being used behind us!
And two more quick questions bro: Can I use the symphonisks with the arc (if I buy a second pair) on the side of the couch, or do they actually have to be behind us? And Symphonisks are okay compared to One SL’s just as satellites for both soundbars? Like the One SL’s isn’t worth almost twice the price, right? Sorry for the long comment, but thanks man! No. It should not do that. The center channel yes, it will sound a little different but the left side should not be unbalanced.

For the record my Sonos arc would not do atmos from that TV. I have a connected Blu-ray player to that TV and run apps and discs. What model TV do you have when your testing this stuff? Thanks
Hi Justin, sorry about that but I just couldn’t keep up with all the demands of life and the comments. Here goes. I am using an LG CX. It’s a previous year model from the current lg C1.
But what you really want to upgrade to is simply a matter of the specs sheet having 2 stated features: Atmos and eARC. With these two, you should be golden.

Yes but only with Dolby Atmos Supported content .

@@EllenZiszu for Dolby Atmos they recommend a HDMI 2.1 to make full use of lossless Atmos.
@@EllenZiszu there called ultra HD cables or 2.1 HDMI. Amazon have loads of them just shop about and check reviews. Or if I have a ps5 or Xbox series s/x they have the cables.
I originally owned the first Sonos beam, and it sounded amazing for a little soundbar. Imagine having a Sonos beam with Dolby Atmos, which will probably sound phenomenal !
Great video (as always!). I see Gen 2 is good solid improvement, is it worth upgrading from a Gen 1?
If Atmos doesn't matter to you, not much of a difference. Go for it only if you want Atmos. If you are playing regular TV and non-Atmos tracks, it won't be that big of a difference.

I just did the upgrade from Gen 1 Beam to Gen 2 and it’s worth it for sure.
To my ears it just sounds like it produces a fuller soundstage.
I also have two Ones as left and right front speakers on either side of the Beam.
No sub in the mix (yet) but honestly I’m not so sure that I’ll even get one as there’s plenty of bass with my setup.
@@richardstevens5961 That you! I added a sub to the same set up you have (Bean Gen 1), the bottom end is way better, and it frees up the Beam and the Ones, much better mid and high ends

My Samsung tv has arc and on settings i see Dolby digital and Dolby digital plus and I bought the beam gen 2 yesterday. I’ve been trying to figure out how to actually get Dolby atmos but I only get Dolby digital plus showing on the app. Set everything to bitstream but still only dd plus. Tried HBO and Disney that support atmos but no luck. I’m I doing something wrong? Or is my tv too old? I bought it in 2019 which just has arc.
ARC only will support up to DD+. But Dolby Atmos lossy is supported over DD+. Does your TV explicitly states Atmos support?

Yeah. That’s the problem. The tv needs to report to the client that it will handle Atmos so Atmos will stream. Else it will pull only surround track.
