Did you know Clapham is the inspiration behind several Disney films? You didn't, because that's not true. Learn what is true about Clapham* as Andrew takes in the Old Town, the intergalactically famous Infernos nightclub and the local Sainsburys. We talk about William Wilberforce freeing the slaves from his Clapham pad, how the Windrush generation started at Clapham South and why they wouldn't have ended up there had we had the money to build Crossrail in 1950.
*except the bit about the bars and restaurants I just made that up

I had family living in Stonehouse St. Years ago. My family used to walk up from Brixton to there. I remember the old pool or that big concrete thing in the common. Streatham I had relations living there too one stage. Woolworths in Clapham was around the corner from Stonehouse St where my grandfather walked all twelve of us then to get sweets every Saturday morning in the early to mid eightes. Then have a few drinks in the Windsor pub that used to be there.
    Memories.....

We used to live in Macaulay road, three families in one Victorian house was normal, and shared one bathroom.
    We couldn't afford it now.

I just love your sarcastic style. Although there must be a lot of cultural references I miss.

Very engaging - Love the historical integration with the occasional 'sardonic touch'! Ironic that the home town of the abolitionist, William Wilberforce ,should be the very town to offer accommodation to the descents of Britain's Caribbean slavery system, in bringing their skills and services in support of making 'The Mother Land', great again! Well done!

I just think it's so cool, roads that you can see driving in straight lines across half the country, built MILLENNIA ago, and we still use them.

I lived there... Have now moved... You were a stones throw away from my flat.
Did you know Clapham and Battersea used to chop down each others trees?
Edit: and they used the common for grazing livestock.

Me and my sister used to live in Macaulay road, and used to know a little boy called Tony, whose father was a boxing or wrestling referee.
He lived on the corner of Lilleshall road and had an older sister.
She used to take us all swimming in
Clapham Manor baths, and we played in your garden !
Glad you're enjoying Canada. Best wishes.

We played in your garden when we were children.
You had an older sister who sometimes took us both swimming at Clapham Manor baths.
Glad you like Canada. All the best from London.
