This is the single greatest decision they ever could have made to save this game from the slow burn of 12 years. Going from an almost 20 year old engine to a less than 2 year old engine, built from the GROUND UP is the only thing that could have made this new generation possible. Instead of letting the game die off, milk money out of every last loyal player until its over, like so many other games in similar situations. The amount of time, effort and skill it takes to rebuild the entire game from complete scratch. You know the Devs LOVE this game. The amount of passion and care I've seen from this team is the reason I've played this game for almost a decade straight ❤ I cannot wait for the new and beautiful SMITE 🎉
I feel like a lot of people don't understand how massive the item system changes are gonna be for build diversity and player expression. It's gonna be a blast.
I hope they do actually go back and make some of the older, popular skins transfer over eventually. Because it would be a shame for skins like Thanatoast and Chef Vulcan to be stuck in Smite 1.
That’s all I could think about. Predecessor’s ui is ugly too on top of the new heroes looking janky and the sound design being lackluster. They tried but in the end Paragon’s artists were S tier and got replaced with A or B tier people

also there’s nothing stopping duos from boosting. if i play jungle at a top level and my friend plays support at a top level, whats stopping us from just queuing as the opposite, low rank role, then doing an informal swap? (ie. i queue as a bronze support but i play jungle, and vice versa), there’s ways to fix the ranked system and honestly, i don’t think this is it at all. but again i hope im wrong i hope i look stupid and eat my words when this comes out and exceeds all my expectations, but i dont see it, too easy to game the system

Unfortunately, I doubt the second Smite will flourish if at all. So many people are trying to justify everyone's complaint about skins not being released on the new one is probably what the nail in the coffin will be for the company in general. What people fail to realize is that Smite has a very difficult time garnering new players and the ratio to new players spending gems is far lower than the older players spending gems, so they're really hoping on the fact that either new players come along and spend money or that the older players won't be so upset about paying for updated skins of skins they already purchased, and what a lot of complaints online no matter how many times UA-camrs and loyal fans like to push the narrative that it is a new game. They don't see a new game, they see a few God reworks and some nice lighting, and all of their time invested and money for 10 years is basically gone. The same experience, the same characters basically, the same modes, the concept is all the same. This was seen coming years ago when Smite was initially released, UE3 was already old. They should have invested in transitioning a lot earlier and building the pipeline for the transition to be smooth and not this hot mess but instead they decided to venture into failed side projects that have only lost them money and now cannot afford to invest in the manpower required to overhaul the game and bring the skins over. They literally recently went on a firing spree and fired 30 employees to restructure their company. Their bad financial decisions and failed projects are starting to catch up. What further shows this as a rushed attempt is the fact they will be developing it alongside the first Smite to appease the players who've invested heavily into skins as they transition into the new Smite in which obviously the old one will get shut down so in thus spreading their already thin player base into two separate groups. They couldn't possibly afford to give a 1-1 conversion ratio on legacy gems since a lot of their profits are from whales. They initially tried to test the water by releasing the FAQ wording basically in legal jargon to emphasize the complexity of the project by saying "To just port every skin to SMITE 2 would take about 246 person-years of work." later in worlds released the PowerPoint in saying "limited" amount of fan favorites from Smite 1 will be ported over and can be purchased 100% through legacy gems available. Since Incon said he saw the same slide months ago, so they were seeing how initially players would react. Not good obviously. All in all, shits not lurking good no matter how many of you are holding on to nostalgia. Hopefully, your pockets are endless and you can continue to donate to that cause.
