- With Cities: Skylines II on its way this may be the last opportunity to do something I've been wanting to do for years: A PROPER CS1 BUILD VIDEO SERIES. Follow along as we'll develop the countryside of Millau and together create something special! In this episode we build the first (so far unnamed) village along the railroad in the southwest corner of the map.

For city names I was thinking of Rayon which is French for ray. I was thinking this to symbolize something like the city/town being a ray of sunshine onto the world because of its calmness and beauty onto an otherwise chaotic world. it’s not a perfect name but I just thought it seemed fitting.
That is literally such a great idea, i was playing around with sunshafts mod and trying to get cool screenshots of the bridge with the sun rays going through the cable stays! Also Rayon would be much easier for me to pronounce probably. Ill have a think but its definitively a top candidate!
Rayon is a cellulose fibre. Also called "Viscose".
@@hcrunoh, I was talking about the French word rayon not the English word.
@@MrWhale4475 French cities names are very rarely common words, if so they are paired with "Sur-Mer" next to the sea or "Sur-*Name of the river* ".
So if your city is on the Sorgue river, you can call it "Le Rayon-Sur-Sorgue" or "Le Rayon-Sur-La-Sorgue" !
@@KrabyLaFourchette Ok, thanks for letting me know. I was playing around with google translate so I wasn’t even sure if what I put was entirely correct.
Great build mate, glad to see you taking on a build series! Looking forward to more 😊
Thanks so much! I actually did think about you during the bobbing in the final stretch of this marathon around timestamp @53:49 😉 gonna look into doing the wild hedge emote thing 😅
I really like this approach. I have only just started playing Cities Skylines and I don't particularly enjoy the feeling of always being pushed towards the creation of some vast sprawling metropolis. The painstaking attention to the placement of every building makes it feel very personal. The town is far more realistic and natural, because it has been developed with purpose. Excellent work! And thanks for a superb map.
Thanks and yeah i can relate, feeling cornered to instsntly build a massive metropolis can be offputting and especially so if you care about how things look and work and match real world examples. Its so nice to play the game this way but i never in my wildest dreams expected it to become quite such a hit. It makes sense but at the time of recording i just wanted to build something simple and cute 😅
I really like the idea of starting on the edge of the map and working your way in with small villages along the way. Limiting the services in these small villages will help keep it realistically small. This first little village looks so good.
Came here from
Overcharged Eggs recommendation. Fantastic build. Really so many diverse ways in which to play C:S now will all the mods. Your build is really interesting and will definitely steal ideas. Thank you!
Typing from a spin bike leads to spelling mistakes! Lol
No worries haha i do that alot (misspelling that is) thank you for your nice words and id be honored if you steal ideas! That makes it all the more worth sharing them for me! :)
1 hour videos are a blessing. Please don't cut out to 20-30 minutes.
totally agree
this village is very nice. i like that you are building along the train line and river. also love the football pitch addition to the village
It all feels just like it should 😉, it is going to be so fun to base this build around that one railline snaking through the map!
A charming and natural looking starting village. I will enjoy watching the progression of this build.
Love this Teddy, the town looks completely real + I really enjoyed your thoughtful narration. A great first episode.
thanks @noakessimon, thats so motivating for me to hear! 😊
i always see videos of people that make their towns into these huge cities. it's nice to see people keep things on the smaller end :)
Yes Teddy! I've been hoping for a build along I can do with you. Don't stress about the voiceover - I like your videos because I like you as well as the way you play the game, and i'm sure others are the same, so it's nice just hearing you say whatever :)
Im blown away, thank you so much!! This motivates me more than you know! ❤
Great voice over!
I know you said you dont want a recreation of Millau, but something to do consider to match a small french village vibe is to:
Leave weird empty lots,
abrupt road ends or swerves to avoid farms,
and roundabouts on either end of the intercity road/highway with a circuitous bypass.
This shows so much time and experience in C:S. Truly a pleasure to watch this! Can't wait for more!
Dude, don't stop being you. Appreciate the video. 29:06
Absolutely amazing episode. Loved the commentary and cannot wait to see how this build progresses! Thanks for all the amazing content!
Thank you so much Moose 😘 !
This is beautiful. Going through a rough time and the horrors of the larger world feel overwhelming a lot of the time. Focusing in on this little beautiful world feels like balsam för själen.
❤ Millau is my happy place too. Stay as long as you need to !
Just wow, great work Teddy. Love it!!!
I love your building palette (especially the houses) it really magnifies your construction! Cool video 👍
What houses is he using do you know? They’re really cute
@@roxanneguerette934 european suburbia content creator pack houses!
Very inspiring start to a map and your reasons for sharing this. Can't wait to see more!
Thanks Darren! Im super excited about finally doing this and doing this my way but it really means alot and motivates me that youre enjoying it so far!
I really enjoyed this. It felt honest and the build was very nice. Looking forward to seeing where it goes.
Thanks so much PP ☺
Really enjoyed the video, loved the build and actually really drawn into the voice over, nice calm, relaxing video mate, good job, looking forward to next episode.
Thanks so much Max! Really appreciate it and i cant wait for next ones also! Ive been waiting so long to share something like this and this amazing reception and your kind words is so incredibly motivating!
I love the build, to my surprise, this video appeared in my YT feed. I saw your post earlier on IG. Keep up the great work.
Great Video man! It’s really strange I came across this video 2 days after travelling over Millau viaduct for the first time 2 days ago after 3 weeks in France and looking down at the town. It was beautiful
Wow what a coincidence! One day i gotta go and do the same! Never been to that part of France
Liked and subscribed, looking forward to following along the build. Great looking hamlet to start off with.
Damn, this is an amazing map! Thanks for shareing mate!
I just stumbled over this little gem. :) I really like your vibe. Enjoyed the video. :)
Hi Teddy. You have such a talent and are a great guy too, I have no doubt your confidence will blossom. And what an awesome map too. Thanks ever so much and I'm really looking forward to the rest of the series. Cheers.
Thanks Zonnor! Im glad youre enjoying it ☺
Teddy you absolute beast. I love your maps happy to have found this series. I’m probably about to start a train-only start of your map deleting all the highways (OTHER THAN THE VIADUCT OF COURSE!!!!) and only connecting to highways much later.
Also, (take it from me, I work in radio) don’t worry about your voice overs. They are totally fine. Nobody has any idea what they are doing with that stuff until they just start doing it!!!!
@@alexsmith6322 thanks alex :) i have suggestion. What if you converted the viaduct and highway to a tgv high speed rail line? 😅
I'm hooked. Found your name browsing Steam screenshots. LOL.
😅
Millau, vraiment ? C'est dans ma région, incroyable et hâte de voir la suite! GG.
Amazing video! I always get excited for European style builds. Can't wait to see more.
Thank you so much! Yeah I was worried maybe things were about to get abit to Eurocentric but in the end, its the build i really want to do now, Im glad you liked it!
Great build, I find the voice over is working perfectly
I love this small town atmosphere. Pls do more!
I will! 😘 been busy on other stuff lately, more millau is coming
this map just wonderful! tnx for it, i will try it myself after your video!
Thanks, that makes me happy to hear, have fun on the map!
Beautiful video. I especially loved that transition at the end
Thanks :) ill try to include more of those for you in future episodes!
Ay caramba, a proper build series! I'll be in France when this premieres so I'll keep an eye out for any baguette bridges for you
Mds kjkkkk boa
Hello Teddy, thank you for your magnificent work... This village looks like it's right out of the region where I live and love so dearly. Sending love from western Bohemia.:-) Please continue.
This probably was the most unique start to a series from a small creator! I cant wait for you to reach 10,000!
Tysm Isaiah, that means alot! I still dont quite understand what it is that you all seem to enjoy so much about Millau. I mean i love it also but i have no idea how it become such a fenomenon. This video is already more than 10x more viewed than my second most viewed video. If you can help me understand how it came to be this way id be very grateful! 😅
Really enjoyable. Thanks for talking through it.
thanks! Im so happy you enjoyed it. Reading comments like this makes my day every time
glad i stumbled across this channel, you got urself new subscriber, love the way you build ;)
don't worry about the voice over, it's always better than just music, and this way we kinda get to know you :)
I literally had no idea! Im so happy because i can talk for ages about this stuff and recording + editing isnt nearly as bad as i thought before. I guess thats why they say you just have to try it
Railway 2 train networks will be more flexible and realistic. Love your channel.
So much work on one map amazing
Hey man, first time watching a video of yours. If you're still debating to voice over a video I would say keep doing it. You got a relaxing voice and it sounds really natural man. I enjoyed every second of the build so far.
Thanks alot JJR! It really gives me boost of confidence hearing these kind words ☺
Don’t worry on making sure everything you do on screen is talked about, as almost every other “professional” CS creator does not always stay on track with what’s on screen. Well, come to think about it… any Timelapse voice overs.
Thanks for the inspiration!
Came for a nice small town build video but stayed for the honest dialogue about self improvement. 👍
Oh thanks alot. Yeah Im blown away, I had no idea how something so simple would be so enjoyable as it seems to have been for many
this makes me want to get back into the game, would love to recreate the feel of the small mountain towns you pass going I-70 from Denver towards the Eisenhower Tunnel
Great video and the narration is very informative en pleasant. Looking forward to more videos. Liked and subscribed.
Thank you so much 😊
Your a new builder to me, I've followed CS for many years as well.......how have you only got 3k subs with this quality of build? 😮😮😮
Looks great and I await the next one. 👍🏻
Thanks alot, I think its that im now actually creating the kind of content that people seem to enjoy and have been waiting for, i had no idea this was gonna be so popular but im excited to have all the new friends along for it!
I thought it's not realistic, but I remembered about Milau Viaduct in France
Wow, didn't know you did this map. I saw it on the workshop some days ago and I thought about starting a city using it. Looks great
So far ive got to say its really fun to build on :)
😮Whaaat... I didn't know you can put a train stop at the edge of the map. Omg... mind is blown. 🤯The more you know~! I hope it actually picks up passengers there. 😆
It does! I had to test after recording, the reason we dont see any sofar is probably because the town is just really tiny so far with realistic population mod turned on. Had to spam a bunch of highrise residential buildings to get traffic. Passengers should start using it as we develop the map and give people a reason to use the train ;)
Oh it's really beautiful :) And coincidentally I was thinking I should record my own "last town" on CS until CS : II
Do it! :D for posterity!
Everything in this town reminds me of the town I live in which is amazing!
Thats pretty cool! making small towns is such an underrated parts of Cities Skylines 😁
Petit clin d'oeil a une ville Française :) Thank you !
amazing video hopefully this would also happen in cs2, also this map is giving some de javu on conflictnerd
Your camera work is really good here, Teddy. I thought your audio was totally fine too, but I can tell you later what kind of things I do to improve voice vs click stuff. You’re a natural at explaining your process, and since you’ve done it so much it makes the video not need to be cut down. You are making me wonder about whether or not the highly edited videos are worth the effort. Idk, I have fun with them but it takes forever like you said. I do think you’re right about cutting down overall length but idk, this video did extremely well so if it ain’t broke don’t fix it!
Finally about the town; your service, commercial, and industry placement before residential was the right move for sure. I prefer to do that as well, since they just need to be in the right place. The European residential isn’t southern France but I def saw (and toon videos of) lots of it in the Alsace. I’ll share some with you later. Great start to the town, a pleasure to watch and listen to this humble beginning of what will no doubt become a legendary build!
☺ thanks so much XB you are a huge inspiration to me. I dont know that id be doing this without you and watching your videos!
@@TeddyRadko 🙏
What a beautiful map
Thank you :) it is a labor of love 😊
First time watching your vids it looks interesting I'll see how this series goes. I have this feeling that you're a Scandinavian.
I am Swedish, your feeling is good! ;) Thanks for watching!
This map is great, makes me think about German Moselle region as well. Maybe even gonna play one last game of CS1 on this beautiful map ❤
Wow, what a wonderful map :-) I watched your newer roundabout videos and then stumbled across this video when having a closer look at your channel.
This map has such a stunning beauty, I didn't know, that was even possible on Cities Skylines. I only know the vanilla maps, and they are somewhat simple.
As I myself am a map maker and buildings modder for Farming Simulator, I'm very interested in building maps and building for Cities Skylines 2, now that I play the game. Therefore your map Millau, and your other maps on the workshop, are a big inspiration. I'd like to learn to build maps as beautiful as your maps.
If you still didn't resolve your problem with the microfon, here is how I do it for my UA-cam videos: other than most of the other youtubers I use a headset with a good microfon. I couldn't work with a microfon, that is attached to the table, because I move my head a lot while playing and speaking. Not every headset with a microfon is good enough for this task. You need one, where the good quality of the microfon is an important part of the product description. And I needed an extra sound card for this to work, because the headset microfon was to weak to produce a good (loud) enough sound for videos just with the mainboard soundchip. A simple soundcard from Sound Blaster is good enough for this job, but again it is important, that the soundcard is specialized in good microfon sound. Then, when the hardware is ok, I needed to adjust my recording software OBS with some filters against hissing and such.
Thank you! and thanks for the microphone tips. I didnt seriously consider a headset before but i might just have to look into that!
Looks very good, only thing I would change are the roads, they feel massive for the size of the town
100%, Node Controller makes it possible but i fear thatd be a massive timesink haha
The map is amazing!!!!! If it only didn’t need also a dlc I could play it :( but pls keep considering doing more maps like this, it’s truly a masterpiece IMO
Im not done with cs1 maps just yet 😉
Love this keep it going!
I'm so thrilled you're doing this! 🍿🍿🍿🍿
Thanks so much Michele! I am so excited also! 🍿🍿
Great video and thanks to overcharged egg for the recommendation
Awesome awesome awesome job!
Looks great.
I like the "Small Steps" right out of the gate.
I've recently decided to force myself into taking my time and not to worry about getting a ton of stuff built. Just relax and enjoy my more focused attempts to make nice looking cities.
Small steps and limiting scope is just such an incrediby underrated way to play the game in my opinion! So far Im absolutely loving the progression up the valley. 10/10 would recommend everybody to try it atleast once!
10:30 I like how u don't find "cul de sac's" French even though the word (as far as I am aware) originated from France.
Could be missing something here though, but the French name always tricked me into thinking it was French ;)
Great chill video
did you also know the first DDI's (diverging diamond intechange) were built in France? Like cul de sacs we dont associate it with french city planning but maybe they just did it first?
Je pense que contemplation serait parfait comme nom!
Beautiful build, but I would like to see a few neighborhoods less... packed? The further out you get into any country, the more sporadic housing gets and the larger the land properties are. Even if not "efficient", having a few sparcely populated areas I think would be cool. IE, not all houses are directly packed next to the next. Anyways, lovely town and looking forward to city skylines 2!
I agree, if i have any regrets about this town, which i love, is that its a tad bit too dense for what its supposefd to be! Great observation!
@@TeddyRadko No need to have regrets. Always time to fix or just do it differently in the next town!
Railway 2 train networks will be more flexible and realistic. Love your channel!
the bridge is really beautiful, it is quite similar to the Pelješka bridge in Croatia.
Interesting,will google it!
I can't seem to build anything on vanilla maps, and I think it's because of too much space. That's what I love about your maps and cities. They always feel just right. I need to take some notes from you 😅
I think way too much about framing my builds to limit them so they dont have to spann an endless expanse to feel complete! Mountains, hills, lakes, and oceans are your friend in this regard! 😊
Incredible build:) You should really get some French local trains from the workshop to roundup the look. There is some great ones by Alexgazz and REV0
Thanks so much! I suppose i never mentioned this in the video but my thing is trying to only use vanilla and dlc assets so no workshop for me. I do use quite a few mods tho and im really excited to share my ways of making custom train stations using IMT and node controller! :) Also fun thing you mentioned Revo, i might want to take some swiss inspiration for some parts when we get closer to the main town! ;)
New subscriber here. Voice overs do not bother me. I sort of hate time lapse with too much music or time. I like your perspective on building this. I always look at the blank space and try to fill the space. I love the idea of painting a picture of a time or place and filling in the details as you go. I look forward to seeing more episodes and how your map gets filled out. Thanks for sharing. BTW what node thing you prefer the older version of?
Thanks so much, it means so much for me to hear that! :) Im talking about "node controller" and i say here i prefer the old one but i can already say that in the coming episodes i change my mind and get the new version " node controller renewal" :)
Great build!
in french two L's make a y sound and "au" makes an o sound, so mi-yo would be the correct pronunciation. hope that helps
Great start nice to see a more rurral build to start, knew therd be a 200iq play in there somewhere and then the train to the edge of the map with no staion thats a niffty trick
Thanks Spuds! Yeah its really useful to get more consistent trains to the outside connections! I like it alot, it will all come together once we get to the main town station!
@@TeddyRadko oh the number of times ive built a staion at the edge of the map and ran roads out to them etc, when I could have just done that lmao
I think the timelapse could be faster, I personally really like akruas's build videos
Noted, thanks for the feedback!
tres joli village
Awesome! I live not far from here! It's pronounced "me o ", no Ls needed :p
Such a beautiful map ❤ you probably need to slow down your camera movement, otherwise love it.
Noted, this is something i know i want to improve on, you are so right!
@@TeddyRadko I think you will do fine 😊
You have the one segment along the rail in the farm industry area as dirt road. For a single farm, in real life, you can have a dirt/gravel road to your silos no problem. The downtown farm industry means all the farmers in the area will be bringing trucks in to be loaded onto train or to be processed. In that case - multiple trucks - it does not make sense to have a dirt road. Just a thot...
Could pave it all tbh! Good point

Google translate: "Oh, my son is attending a Korean high school in Korea. " 🤣
Love it
😁 thanks!
Great work! I'm looking forward to see more! But just to satisfy my french side, it's pronounced Meeyo. 😋
Thanks @dandomine, my struggle to pronounce Millau going to be a recurring problem it seems, I will address it and hopefully, one day I will learn!
@@TeddyRadko No worries! It's not that important. Looking forward to next episode!
in the case of city names, I propose the name Dilf Central for your consideration
Dilf would symbolize something about you the creator of the city, because of your calmness and beauty onto an otherwise chaotic dating scene. Its not a perfect name but I though it seemed fitting,
Very good video!
Thanks Maurice! Cant wait to see your builds on the map!
Do you have discord? I would love to join that if you have one! I joined because of the recommendation from Overcharged Egg and I’ve been binging you channel all night 😂 I love your style and I’m glad to be subscribed now!
This yellowish theme fits really good to this map and it don´t feels very vanilla looking
Its remarkable how good it works, imho its the best vanilla combo!
the game should have village cenarios
It really should!
Football Field near the railraod? I dobnt think so its good idea. Dont lose your ball kids.
in french we don't say millau but meo ;)
Episode is a bit too long, but the concept is good and execution pretty, so I'm in to this series.
This is something I really want to work on making episodes more bite sized, thanks so much for your patience with me :)
@@TeddyRadkoif you can I’d just speed up the Timelapse a bit. Others like OE and $2.20 go faster. But I personally appreciate the more laid back tone to the video. It’s nice hearing you talk a lot, and it felt very natural :D good video mate.
I personally really enjoy long videos
@@northover6015 @ronathebear thanks guys for commenting! this is truly invaluable feedback!
If u where to use a map theme like european this map whould realy look like the rhein valey near rudesheim an rhein u probably dont need to do that muchs lans skakping either and the big bridge chould be made to look like the bridge near the rhein river that goes over the moesel river near bon germany i think im gona try re create some of it on this map
I love that! Yeah my inspiration other than the location is definitively more "generic european"
Send me a picture of your audio set up, I can help you out with that if you want. Nice build mate, welcome to the gang 😎
Like on software or my microphone? Im kinda anxious i have alot of half assed bodged solutions goin on with that i fear 😅
@@TeddyRadko ahahaha your microphone and stuff, don't worry I've had my share of Frankensteins, I'm sure we can handle it xD
The building and everything was great! I loved it! But PLEASE, I live nearby, it's pronounced "mi-y-o", with a descending "o", not "ow" :D
