Only got a northern soul on vinyl and it’s the HMV vinyl week issue from a few years ago disappointingly on awful silver vinyl, which is always terrible for playing! Missed the green one HMV had of urban hymns, but if an album as classic as that is worth buying on vinyl then it’s worth buying on black! Along with your desire for the Haigh Hall gig to get a vinyl release I would like David Bowie at the Move festival in Manchester in 2002 because I was there and Bowie played a banger of a show! But it’s not “when he killed ziggy in 1973” so I guess it’s of not interest whatsoever to Parlophone/Warners to issue this! They never bother with the ones I went to!!!!

Where do you get your plastic/poly sleeves from? They look good.

for me this is the worst Verve album, even worse than "Forth". Really just an Ashcroft solo album with bits and pieces of the rest of the band thrown in there. "A Storm In Heaven" is their absolute masterpiece with ALL of them at the peak of their powers. "Urban Hymns" was Ashcroft trying to match how big Oasis had become, really. A throwaway album.

I love all their albums... with maybe an exception for Forth which was lack lustre.... most fans don't take to Urban Hymns as it's the record that made them more mainstream... it made them money, and without UH they would never have been in a position to play Haigh Hall. I like UH, and they all did most certainly contribute although Ashcroft did by his own admission present songs more or less finished as regards words and music. Maybe that's why some "original" fans don't accept UH as Ashcroft had started becoming a singer songwriter.. he'd found his feet

@@suffolkaudiophile to me he didn't find his feet, he lost his balls! :P "Mad" Richard was a totally different animal in Verve from 92-94. He sang from the soul, it came from a deep place and McCabe's soaring guitars with Simon's heavy groovy bass took that band to the stratosphere and back. By the time "Urban Hymns" came out he was trying to write songs for the radio----and he succeeded, but he also succeeded in destroying a great band in the process.

@@FogAndLime having discussed this album and the recording sessions with Nick I can say the he was along with the others 100% commited to this album, he even rates Forth better than UH. To each their own.

@@suffolkaudiophile interesting because I’ve also spoken to Nick about it, and that’s not the feeling I got at all.

@@FogAndLime Well... I suppose he's selective what he says and to who... he knows everything about the technical side of the sessions how it was recorded and the audio path and the fact it was analogue transferred to digital.. Ashcroft didn't play lead guitar or drums or bass or second guitar or keyboards... that was fone by Nick, Pete, Simon and Tongy respectively... they contributed their parts, nobody can play like Nick... Ashcroft brought the songs, and they all worked on the arrangements.
