Nice review Doug. For the price that’s a cool little raft. What good Canadian doesn’t have an old hockey stick laying around to make a push-off stick out of. Cheers.
Thank you for your very kind review. I've been thinking about buying this kayak and have been looking at a lot of reviews and yours was very good and informative.🙂
There’s a UA-cam video from an inflatable kayak club in the Pacific Northwest - the club president tested every sub $300 IK and the Intex Challenger came out on top for tracking and paddling efficiency. The Challengee, however, is too small to fit camping gear in there with you, so it looks like the Explorer is a way to go.
It definitely works well Mark and the price is actually quite affordable, over here anyhow. I love the idea of putting Wye in front of Explorer! Perfect! Thanks for watching Brother! Doug

First I've ever heard of that word of portaging. I may need to drop that word here and there to sound smart though! It's hard to beat the portage-ability with an inflatable kayak...see what I did there haha! Great idea with the hockey stick. Hey there Doug!!! Great review and the boat sure stood the test at the park!!! The rubber Intex doesn't seem to jacknife at all when you sit in it which was a concern I had about a rubber boat with no hard bottom. Thanks for posting,!!!
Thanks Mike and the jackknife effect was a concern for me initially as well but clearly that’s not a worry. Inflated properly this kayak will hold 400lbs with class. Thanks for watching Brother! Doug

I appreciate your opinion but there’s no elephant in the room. I’ve never had an issue inflating the kayak in 10 minutes or so and I’m no athletic specimen 😂. It’s really not that hard but like anything in life it requires a little bit of effort, definitely not deserving of a one star rating, as you put it. If you find it that hard get yourself a battery operated air pump or return it. Doug
I got mine for a few years. Rabbit chewed a hole in it but i patched it with a heavy duty dingy repair kit. The only stupid thing i did was keeping it inflated outside in the sun for 2 weeks while camping. I used it daily but it was in a salt water lake. So salt water and sun, made the fabric stretch a bit. Its still perfectly useable, but its main tubes are a bit bigger now.
Sounds like you had a little bit of bad luck but as you say, these things are almost bulletproof in terms of their build quality. Appreciate you watching and commenting! Doug
I use this thing out in the Lakes around Southern Ontario, I take it to Rondeau park often and go out at least 2 km from shore with no issues riding this solo. Hell I am out there watching movies on my phone lol.
this review is refreshingly interesting, both because the brand is 'intex' (whomofwhich have less than a flattering reputation with their air mattresses) and because the gentleman in the video appears to have truly put this kayak through some pretty tough testing. many years ago i was using a sevylor tahiti, which has a similar structural design and shape, on a tidal river and also on the ocean and the thing performed very surprisingly well. from viewing the briefs images of the gentleman paddling, i, however, suspect that i might desire a longer paddle (although perhaps the oem paddle is just right for the waters traversed in the video). i found this review to be have been very well done as well as informative.
Thanks so much! The oem paddles are a little short but usable. Given the price you are getting a lot of value with this product. Appreciate you sharing your thoughts with all of us! Doug
i took mine out today, for around 5 continuous hours, for the first time. i had the seat approx same spot yours is. i added 1 of the 2 sections plus the joiner from the second paddle to make approx 2 metre long paddle (not counting the lengths of the paddle blades). if i were the designer i would have made a second skeg location at the opposite end in same relative location and then sometimes go with just 1, or both, skegs. i found the boat to be highly enjoyable and your video was kind of the final impetus to get me out there sooner.
@@daktarioskarvannederhosen2568 Awesome! Great idea with adding the section of paddle. The skeg idea is interesting and would be great to keep the boat tracking straight better but it would probably hurt it’s ability to manoeuvre easily I think. Nevertheless I’m happy you got some enjoyment out of the boat and glad I was part of your experience in a small way!
Great review. I really enjoy Kayaking. I have a plastic Kayak that I seldom use these days. Last year I picked up a smaller tandem Inflatable (Different manufacturer, but similar 3 cell design) so I could Kayak with my Girlfriend. I like the fact that it deflates for storage and transportation. It's perfect for a casual afternoon of paddling around on the lake. Thanks for the video.
I got this one Dave for the same reasons as you plus go on camping trips to more remote areas that you could only get to by water. Thanks brother! Doug
Wow comes to mind, he's a very original drummer just like the band is. Fear Inoculum was a long time in coming though eh? There are so many creative drummers out there... I'm working on Animals as Leaders - Physical Education right now and Matt Garstka is another very different thinking drummer... thanks bro!
Just pulled ours out of the shed for a pre trip inflation. Bought it last year for £89. All is good and can't wait to get out on it this week. This has been a cheap way to see if kayaking is for us. Best 'bang 4 buck' inflatable kayak on the market. Well I'm looking at getting us a touring sea kayak each possibly for next year. Not inflatable though, although sliding up onto the beach then packing EVERYTHING away in the carry bag and walking off to pop it in the boot is so great. It makes me smike doing that everytime. Same for setting up too with an audience then disappearing out to sea 😎👍There are so many beautiful and partially hidden places to see via kayak in the UK.
Awesome stuff my friend! It’s a great affordable way for many to enjoy the water that otherwise they wouldn’t be able to. Appreciate you taking the time to share your experiences my friend. Thanks! Doug
Sounds really sturdy. I actually saw a dude down at the cape fear river on an inflatable boat not much bigger than that and he had an outboard motor on it. lol. That thing moved on up and down the water. I bet that skeg works pretty good. It's along the same concept as the rudder on my hobie. Of course that's actually for steering but it makes a huge difference in how it tracks once you drop the rudder down. I like it Doug. If it does what you need it to do, then it's right for you. You're always gonna get a little wet in a kayak. Really can't completely avoid that unless you wear a scuba suit or waders like mine.💪👍💯
You’re right Bill and I don’t mind getting wet cause it’s worth having the ability to be on the water. This kayak definitely works for me and what I need it for. Inflatable boats have come a long way and this one is just one option. Thanks so much for your input Bill. Appreciate you watching Brother! Doug

I use this thing out in the Lakes around Southern Ontario, I take it to Rondeau park often and go out at least 2 km from shore with no issues riding this solo. Hell I am out there watching movies on my phone lol.
Awesome!! I’ve never felt uncomfortable in mine anywhere. The ability to get out on the water is great! Appreciate you watching friend! Doug
THANKS YOU FOR SHARING THIS VIDEO
Thank you for watching friend! Doug
Nice kayak great video.
Thanks so much Marilyn! Appreciate you watching my friend! Doug
this review is refreshingly interesting, both because the brand is 'intex' (whomofwhich have less than a flattering reputation with their air mattresses) and because the gentleman in the video appears to have truly put this kayak through some pretty tough testing.
many years ago i was using a sevylor tahiti, which has a similar structural design and shape, on a tidal river and also on the ocean and the thing performed very surprisingly well.
from viewing the briefs images of the gentleman paddling, i, however, suspect that i might desire a longer paddle (although perhaps the oem paddle is just right for the waters traversed in the video).
i found this review to be have been very well done as well as informative.
Doug
@@PinetreeLine My girlfriend would never go for Canoe/Kayak camping, she's a Glamper for sure, hence the Travel Trailer. Take care.
Super cool Kayak review my man! :D
Thanks Tom!! What do you think of Danny Carey’s drumming on the new Tool album? Appreciate you watching Brother!
Thanks! Doug
It looks like a viable option, solid review. Thanks for posting.
It’s an option that works, not on big water like yours but certainly the lakes, rivers and creeks up our way David. Thanks for watching Brother!!
Doug
Hello my friend.😊
It wow wonderful nice!👍💕💕
Thank you so much my friend! Doug
