My only band was on a mallard hen. Most states have a limit on how many hens you can take. Your 2-4 hens aren’t going to screw up the population. Hunt how you want regardless. As long as you have a good hunt, nothing else matters. Hens get bands too. 👍🏻
put on a pair of nitrile gloves under wool gloves. i discoverd that this duck hunting season. the nitriles dont hold heat, but they keep your hands dry so they warm in milliseconds!! when you put the wool gloves on. it really works
These solo kayak hunts are wicked man. Getting after it, birds doing it dirty, and taking home your limit, cannot beat that!! Awesome video, can't wait for next one!!
I’m a Veteran that lives in Texas and it would be awesome to get out in the woods or on the water bud. Maybe like a “Vet Special” or something? I’m sure everyone would probably watch! 🎣🦌🦆
3:36 you’re moving too much buddy, I know it’s hard not to when you have them in all directions. But you have no overhead cover and ducks are extremely good at picking up on movement. You’re looking around like crazy, have to look with you’re eyes not your head and body, might have been flaring off the ducks. I love this kind of set up man just wanted to give you a tip, not trying to be an a hole!!!
It makes me so happy seeing you get mallards. I’m on my first season and am still waiting to recover one. I shot one today but lost it. Keep it up man.
Look into paddling in wind techniques. If you offset the paddles, instead of putting them together parallel, it will let the paddle that's up in the air slice through the wind instead of catching it. I don't imagine it will help much going downwind, but it definitely will upwind.
Great video brother well done. Quick hint. When a pair of mallards are flying or coming in, the drake is MOST of the time in the back. Unless you can identify which one is which try to shoot the second bird. Get that green
I loved your hunt! Nothing like it when a front comes in. Was with my deceased brother when we shot 8 ducks (limit at that time) in 30 minutes. Love your excitement.
I so admire you for hunting alone. I do so for deer but just can't bring myself to do so for ducks ... it maybe because I'm a bad swimmer and not too comfortable on the water.
Don’t understand why all the flack and hate for taking hens. Meat is meat, arguably I’d assume hens would be better, whitetail bucks, are tougher and sometimes more gamey then does
yah i get it but when you take a hen you take a possible 5-9+ ducks but you take a drake it dont hurt the population at all but if your not see anything its fin with shooting hens but if you have tons of birds it would be better to try and shoot drakes.
@@jadynm6796 not rely waterfowl populations has been on a rise due to conservation but taking alot of hens(more hens than drakes) does take a tiny chip off it and 1 drake can breed with lots of hens it dont take lots of drakes to breed lots of hens tho the preferred hen, drake percentage is 60-40% 60% being hens. by the way im a meat hunter so thats why i care about the population to make sure their will always be game to hunt.
dylan boyd it still takes a drake to make a ducklings hens have to have a mate shoot nothing but drakes and hens start having no mates and the population is unbalanced and so you do need to take some hens
@@dylanboyd7249 I understand that, but it's not like the duck numbers are suffering. By that logic we shouldn't be hunting any hens period. And I think we all know that'd do more damage then a mix bag.
doesn't it kind of depend on where you live as to if they are going to taste good? Out here they spend all day eating worms in salt marshes so they taste like mud.
@@Raevenswood That's true, likely vary's from region to region but any ringneck I have shot up here in Canada has been feeding on wild rice and tastes as good as any mallard.
Can you do a review of the Auxbeam kayak bow lights mentioned at the end of the video. I am looking to get a similar set up on my layout boat and wanting to know battery you chose, how you ran the cables, quick disconnect setup, etc. Thanks a bunch. Really enjoying the videos. Don't beat yourself up on taking hens. It happens and just part of the hunt in my opinion.
Josh, spectacular hunt! Love the content. I’m slowly getting around to viewing most of your vids. Love the energy. You may have already done a vid on this, or at a minimum, talked about it... But can you describe your plan of action, God forbid, you go overboard a long distance from your truck and get soaked to bone? Turning to nightfall, etc? I assume you’ve got materials for fire-making, other basic survival tools to make it reasonably comfortable and survivable through a night out? I had this happen to me when I was about your age. Had waterproof kit, made fire, dry clothes, had some soup and tea and made it out next morning. Didn’t sleep. But didn’t die either... so. Or maybe on your hunts you’re not unreasonably far from your truck and could quickly slog out in a pinch? Again, love your upload! Thx!
I would say that if I were to go overboard, i would be able to make it back to the truck pretty easily. I don't travel more than half a mile to most of my spots. I do tend to keep my big jacket in a dry bag when I am paddling somewhere because I'll sweat with it on.
Kewl video ... first of yours that I've checked out. Really makes me miss Waterfowl hunting. Hunted a ton when I was younger but now live where the waterfowl hunting is not very good.
If you was disappointed in one hen then you'd really been upset with what we got today😂 3 man limited of mallard hens but was over all a 3 man limit mallard woodies teal and two pintails. Gotta take what you get on public land.
Hey bud, can you give me your advice. I’m wanting a kayak for just me when I go to a few spots. I’m stuck between the sit on top and the sit inside. I like the sit inside better. Only down side is it rains when I duck hunt here in Alabama. The sit on top who shed the water. But the sit in would just hold it.. anyway, great channel!
Looks like u got a hell of a push great hunt bro... Shot 9 this morning on 1 widgeon 2 gaddys 1 canny and 5 ringnecks lol the ringnecks are so "easy" to breast lmao great hunt... #MALLARDSBRO

By far the best hunting channel on UA-cam
Shallower water = more boat stability = better shooting. Well done Josh

Georgia Wild yeah those ducks really looked like they hated his decoys here only 100 flew in shooting range 😂😂
With that wind moving all the gras etc around something not moving some looks abnormal. But generally yes you are correct.

Mike Clark if u follow his Instagram he did kill a band
Yeah that's why I said it. Saw it on snapchat then ig this morning

Best duck hunting content on UA-cam

That’s why they make limits on certain ducks! Hen or not. Killer video!
really like your conversational style calling!
Too see the lights work isn’t being weird I get excited about things like that too. Great video Josh keep up the good work!!
I like how ur not shooting spoonies but if I shot one I would go ballistic I saw one once last year past the season it was awesome
You vids are getting me so hyped for duck season I’m leaving tomorrow for Arkansas can’t wait!
good luck!
Would love to see a video overview of your kayak, and how you set it up for duck hunting.

Unless you are shooting thousands and thousands of ducks, that is making no impact. And yet again it takes a drake to make those babies!

What an awesome video and hunt!!! That was a lot of ducks
I’ve watched a lot of different hunting channels. But since I’ve found this one it’s all I watch. Great job!!! Great videos!!!
I can't afford to pass up ducks. Nice to see you can be successful hunting late day. I haven't had any chance to start early. So far, I've got none.
You need to get together with Bobby and slay some mallards!
I can't wait for the video with the band
Finally get to hunt in the morning so hoping its a good one
Awesome spot. Good on you doing it solo.
That's as many ducks as I've seen my whole season!😂 good videos. Keep it up my friend.

I'll try to have it up next week

awesome vid! we have had quite a few days like this in kansas this year so far. been one of my favorite seasons
It's going great!
I'm just screaming at the screen "SHOOT THOSE SHOVELERS!!!!!" lol then again I haven't been to a spot where I can pick and choose what I shoot haha
What do ppl do with the ducks after they are shot?
@@youtubeadministration1059 eat them,
Makes me wish I still had my kayak. A lot of places I hunt in dependent on friends with boats to hunt.
Hey dude!! Love the content!
Great video josh! Watching these kayak hunts have me thinking about getting one🙃🙃🙃
They're pretty great!
Those are the day's we dream of nice hunt!
Yes they are
Heck yes that’s a good day right there
real nice job there buddy... i remember my first hunt... it looks like you had a tough morning
Could you please do a duck decoys spread video I would really appreciate it. Keep up the great work on the videos
Hey Josh made some duck enchiladas, they were great. Awesome recipe, I added taco seasoning to them. Keep up the great videos!!
Great hunt! Thanks for sharing!
Awesome! Killing it! Literally 😂
Spoonies taste amazing, try making duck tenders out of them. The greasy meat just makes them mouth watering.
Keep up the good work
Nice job Man! You rock Dude! Subscribed!

I’ll trade you some mallards for some spoonys
Love your videos man!! Trying to get into duck hunting and have been learning a lot. Sick content
Nice hunt
At 2:06 I wanna say "get your ass in the damn kayak"😂
You should have tried to shoot a drake of each species! That would've been awesome!
What duck call do you use???
Your one hell of a caller

This hunt was sick! Keep it up brother!
Great videos man. I'm really enjoying your content. Keep em coming!
One question, Why can you only shoot them when they are flying? There are so many sitting close to you 🤔😅
Badass 👍 Slow start to the season out here in California but it’s picking up . Super jealous haha
You beg for mallards we beg for divers😂
weird
Hell yeah you killed it 🤙🏽
It was great

I wish we even had open water where I'm at everything has 4+ inches of ice
Dang man only having to shoot once! You were so excited you were making me dizzy .Lol😁

We are open Saturday hoping to limit out

Down here we barely get any mallards. It flies it dies💥💥
Why hate on the spoons? They can be pretty good depending on where they’re eating. Lol. But not on that day. Good hunt bro.

I can't believe you pass on those spoonies! I'm in NW Oregon and whenever I get a shot at a nice hollywood, he's goin down! Love shootin spoonies!
what is the wire on your Gopro? is it for the battery? I always struggle with keeping my Gopro charged.

What shot, choke and lead ? Having trouble as a beginner hitting ducks. Thanks
I use 3 shot or 2 shot bu5 for geese I use 4 shot
4 shot for geese? Most people would say BB for geese. Why 4 shot? Isn’t that small? Thanks for replying.
