Damn I wasn't expecting people to act so hateful over this, I'm sure the majority of people are happy with this but after I stopped recording I checked Instagram and every post about LP had some of the most disgusting / degenerate comments I've ever seen in my life. These people should be embarrassed, it's fine if you don't like her voice, that's completely subjective, but people are attacking Mike and are saying they should change the band name because it's not Linkin Park and that she's a horrible singer and did an awful job, like that's objectively false.
First, LP was started by Mike and Brad, it's Mike's band, he created the LP sound, Chester was the last person to join LP and even replaced their first vocalist. People act like Chester = Linkin Park and Brad, Mike, and Phoenix just don't exist. I understand that because he's who I think of when I think of LP, but these people need a reality check.
Secondly, she is an incredible vocalist, she had a couple issues during Lying From You but it's their first live set and she literally got better and better as the set went on and she could hit every note and do it with vocal distortion, her voice is very different from Chester's and may have been weird at first but that's the point, they tried very hard to get someone who would not be compared to Chester because they're not trying to replace him, because you can't do that.
People are also saying she has no emotion in her voice? I felt the opposite, she delivered the aggressive screams with insane intensity and even got choked up at one point and couldn't sing. These people did not watch the entire stream and it shows, like I cannot believe that I waited 7 years for Linkin Park to return and people are being so miserable about it, like yes, there are other vocalists out there that may have been a “better” fit, but there's always someone better, people will complain no matter what, people complained every time LP released an album even with Chester, but anyway, sorry for the rant lmaoo I'm sure the vast majority of people are open and giving her a chance:)

It was expected lol. I remember when fans hated LP direction when they wen't into more techno music, a lot of people were just the same and this was sadly to be expected from people who act like infants to change.
She's similar enough to do some justice for the older songs, but different enough to give the band it's new voice. Very impressed.

Mike said something interesting during a recent interview. When they tried her vocals with the band in 2019, they knew she didn't sound like Chester but her approach fit with the band's sound. Going with a vocal clone of Chester would have pissed off the fans and critics for not being similar enough or good enough, so they did something really ballsy by going in a completely different direction.

People has been saying that "Doesn't sound like Linkin Park" since Minutes to Midnight, and everytime that haters say something LP becomes bigger, She's really good, obviously she was nervos at the beggining but sounds nice, and the album "From Zero" is a new start for them.
Fun Fact, their first band name was Xero and that was when they have to cast a new main vocal when Mark Wakefield left the band and Chester came, so they're on the same point again.

26:53 - I was already getting so emotional during Waiting for the End... Emily starting to cry and being unable to sing just broke me. Can't imagine the pressure in general, but singing those lyrics while stepping in for Chester... She was incredible and it's so good to have the band back. Can't wait for this album and tour.
She also said in the interview they did that the thing that made her start singing was hearing Chester’s given up scream. Her exact words were that young her was like “yeah I could do that” and that’s what got her started

Her voice took me a few listens to get used to, and obviously no one will ever be able to fully replace Chester. That being said I enjoyed the performance and look forward to hearing new LP music.

I was all in on her as the next singer during Waiting for the End. When she choked up singing it, I knew she understood the weight of these songs. She also sang it so beautifully
Same. I wasn't so sure at first but I felt like from them on she actually sounded better and more confident, she really killed the rest.
The best tribute to Chester was finding the peace he never could. Couldn't be more thrilled the band is back and clearly loving what they're doing.

Linkin Park was so important to me since I was 12 years old. I cried like a baby when Chester died... I missed LP since 2017. Seeing my favorite band back makes me feel so happy ❤
I relate so much to this reaction 😭 the battle to hold in the tears was so tough! Honestly couldn't be happier with Emily as the vocalist. She captured the spirit of Chester's singing while also singing in her own way.
The thing that makes Emily a perfect stand-in for Chester is her versality - vocally, she can do everything from singing softly to belting to screaming. She doesn't do it exactly as Chester did, and frankly it'd feel cheap and unemotional if she did, but it's a skill she shares with him and it allows her to make choices in the moment about what's going to serve the song. It's something Chester had from day one, which is extremely rare, and in Emily's case it's likely a skill she's practiced and honed over years in Dead Sara. Both are awesome.
And yeah, there's the occasional choice where maybe she's forcing too much, but it's their FIRST show together and it happens a handful of times. The majority of the time, especially in 'big moments' like Crawling and In The End, she's nailing it. She has the right understanding of the band and its music, though, and over time, she's going to get better and better at figuring out what each song needs.
I found out through the release of the emptiness machine music video and when she started screaming i legit lost my breath, got goosebumps and started crying. Fucking amazing to have linkin park back, Chester definitely would want them to continue and they're doing it right

I didn't watch the whole live show, but was glad enough to listen to Bleed it Out and then the premier of The Emptiness Machine. I can't stop sobbing and bawling my eyes out. This feels like a new beginning and I hope it all works out for them. The new song gives me so much hope and I get so overwhelmed when I listen to it. Absolutely wonderful.

30:45 she sacrificed so much of her voice to make that part work full throttle, from a vocalist standpoint you can tell by her shoulders, it's like Chester was channeling that unto the stage. I am absolutely blown away by her performance. I hope she takes classes to protect that, it was coming from the throat to sink it. Same with the end of Faint.

I watched this live and thought she was incredible and the whole band sounded amazing. I had chills. Was so surprised to read hateful comments afterwards. I just think it's people who think they are replacing Chester. There's not one person that wouldn't rather have Chester alive and well and in this band today. But life happens. You have to let the band eventually move on. It's been long enough. Chester would have wanted that.

He had to take a small break from touring with them, but he was still in the promos for the new album, and he played guitar and everything on it. Now he’s touring with them again. I’m sure it’s a similar thing, and he’ll be back sometime.
She came to give a new look to Linking Park, Chester left us a great legacy and we will never forget that, and she is giving all her being and passion to music with her great voice, and I know that Chester is there from wherever he is. grateful and happy that they continue with their lives and with a new project. Good decision to take a woman... People are still going to run their mouths of course, but with a man it would be much worse, because ppl were not able to compare him with Chester. I like the new songs so far, but the old ones with her are not my thing TBH. No hate or anything, just for me it feels off and brings me no joy and that is fine, i am just happy they release music again, especially for Mike!

I think it's just best to not give the haters any response. Even though Chester was the soul of LP, I believe Mike was the heart of it. Of course with Brad, Phoenix, Joe and Rob who made up the arms and legs. Mike wrote his heart out and Chester sang and brought emotion to that message for him. I kind of think of this when Journey replaced Steve Perry. We all know Perry was the soul of that band. But the band wanted to continue and although nobody could ever replace Steve, I don't think anyone should ever fault any band for wanting to continue with their lives and artistry. We all feel like we lost a brother in Chester, but the as the old saying goes "Life goes on." We love and miss you Chester! Linkin Park forever!

she’s using the drive and belting in her singing! she’s killing it, and i notice how much she respects the band, the fans and understand the position she is. very respectful, the voice techniques are really high level, take a show in this level is a real struggle! i respect and admire her
I loved this, she's the right direction. I don't think going a male vocalist would have been the right direction, they would be forever compared to Chester. Emily knows she can't sound like Chester, so she doesn't try, she sings her own style. Its the start of a new era of LP, and i'm here for it.
You see how happy Mike is throughout the whole show. I am glad. It has been 7 years now, and whilst Chester will never be replaced, what they are doing will continue to honour him and keep him in our memories. The choice of Emily was a very good one and complements the band superbly, she did an awesome job and must have been under so much strain starting the first concert.. Happy and sad to see them back, and look forwards to the future.
As an addition, I think she will improve a lot more with time as she settles in. There was a little cracking, but totally understandable wunder the circumstances.
The repeating lift me up let me go almost sounds like a message from Chesters soul himself saying its ok to move forward.

I admit i was hesitant to listen to the new song and the live show. The hate she's been getting is absolutely undeserved and frankly, it's probably because she's a woman.
Her gender doesn't determine her talent. Look at tatiana from jinjer, Courtney LaPlante from spiritbox. Emily is a fucking star. Lets not forget she was chosen for this by Mike and the sheer balls for her to come out and perform with such humility in her demeanour and fury in her voice. I hope she takes the words of every hater and turns them into fuel, if she does, she'll be unstoppable.
I'm all in she's perfect. People will say her voice cracks let her down. Not for me, she gave it her all to the point she'd ran of air. She'll only grow into it with more practice. She choked up on waiting for the end because she was emotional. That's when the reality hit. She's not chester she is Emily Armstrong. Let's not forget chester would more often than not break up certain screams. Especially in given up.
If you don't like it, guess what the old songs are on Spotify and UA-cam to listen at your leisure. You don't have to watch or listen to the new era. Swallow your sexist pride or just don't listen again. Its really that simple.

My gosh, if it wasn't allowed to replace a singer for whatever reason, no matter how tragic, then ACDC, Nightwish, Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, Helloween, Arch Enemy and some others wouldn't exist anymore. She did an excellent job. She also gives the old songs a new touch by not trying to imitate chester. Because that would never work.

loved every second of it. Emily is amazing. The people hating (on the internet..) they either don't exist or are just doing it because they can hide behind their profile. In real life they rocked out to every second of it and they know it.
The sound is so Linkin Park...BUT...Emily and Chester have very different tones. Emily's scream comes from a place of anger...Chesters came from a place of pain...you can hear it if you listen to both versions...same but so different.
Stop listening to the people who "hate" online. They are blood sucking trashbags who don't deserve a second of anyone's time online or in real life. Just because Chester is gone doesn't for a second mean that all the other members needed to walk away and end their careers and passion. Not once are they claiming Emily is replacing Chester, they still acknowledge him as if he is still with them in every performance.

Whole show is a try not to cry stream. I'm glad they're back... I'm really impressed with Emily. Her voice and techniques works well even for LP's older songs. I'm sure Chester is very happy with this new LP, watching it from heaven.
I fkn love it, love it, love it, love it. This is progression. Moving foward. Colin and Emily are brilliant, and I for one, cannot wait to see whats next. The Emptiness Machine is all class. We won't ever forget Chester or Rob, they are part of the LP journey.
I'm not much of a poster, my comment is my opinion and mine alone. I am a die hard fan of LP, when I heard of a possibility of a new singer and the return of them I was absolutely thrilled! I wasnt expecting the new singer to "replace" Chester that cannot be done we all know this. To my point though, I think her voice is absolutely amazing! She's got the talent and I honestly believe with the addition of her the band is going to embark on a new journey and create more amazing moments and memories for he fans all over. HOWEVER, I personally have a hard time listening to her singing Chester and Mikes songs. Not because shes bad, by no means not for that reason, but I cant stop hearing Chesters voice and I cant stop comparing them and she doesnt hit them the same way Chester did.(I know give me hate) With that said I do believe she is going to do great with the band, that new song they released Emptiness Machine is absolutely amazing! I look forward too all the NEW music they release!
No, you're absolutely right. In particular, the way she does melodic screams is very different from Chester's, so those feel like they're falling flat a bit. But then when she does it in Emptiness Machine, it sounds great; it's just hard not to compare when she's singing his songs. I think her singing songs that weren't written for her voice -- and that we all know well as being someone else's voice in our heads -- is a big reason for a lot of any perceived quality issues in this performance. That, and she was clearly very emotional and anxious -- and who wouldn't be in her position? -- which led to her handing the mic to the audience quite a bit as she tried to regain composure. (Side note: when Mike clapped her on the back before their belting harmony on Papercut, it was so sweet! Like a moment of, "you got this!" 💗)
I think as we hear more songs written *for* her voice, and as she gets more comfortable singing with the band live (i.e. when she starts feeling more like a member of LP instead of "that woman you asked to join the band a year ago and who can't sing as well as Chester", like she joked about at the end of the concert), she'll be amazing. Emptiness Machine is great, and her ballad version of Lost was chillingly beautiful. I'm confident the rest of the album will also be wonderful.
No need to give you hate for speaking out your mind in a respect full way. A lot of them 'so called LP fans' are forgetting this...
I also think she can work some more on giving her own touch to the already existing catalogue. Of course she doesn't need to sing it totally different. Some songs require to sing it more like Chester while in other songs she can sing it more in her normal singing style. I'm sure they will improve from now on. The live show was already quite promising though. She has this great raspy voice and has a good control over her fry scream. Her screaming is decent, a bit monotone but you can't expect her to have everything.
@@KBRoller Yeah the harmony in the papercut was so beautiful! It reminds me of a lot of Chester but in a good way. Their voices blend in a nice way, I also hope the album incorporates this.
Mike said it best. Your feelings are valid and everyone will have to process this in their own way. They have had a 7 year journey to get them to this point of moving forward with Emily. The fans are just starting this journey.

If you're still looking for recs, I've been a fan of Dead Sara for forever, some of my favorite rock music in the last decade.
Lemon Scent, Weatherman, Mona Lisa are all great tracks that can tell you exactly what Emily is about. Whispers and Ashes is also great if you want to hear the quiet stuff.
Also notable, Heart-Shaped box, fantastic Nirvana cover that some may remember from the marketing of Infamous Second Son on PS4.
I was pleasantly surprised when I figured out she was the new vocalist. I love dead sara and love infamous second son even more
To those whoever saying the new vocalist is awful is not a true LP fans. She never replace chester, she is here to fill the void. You can never imagine the amount of pressure put into her to Imitate chester to ensure the legacy of LP continues. I like it. Emily is a great singer and as a LP fans from 5 years, i love it.

I was so mind-blown that the concert was even happening, and trying to figure out what I thought of Emily, that I was just jamming along and not really paying attention to the lyrics. Rewatching it as I watched your video now, every time any lyrics talked about moving on or starting over or, in the case of Crawling, always being a mistake -- all those lyrics choked me up, because I could only think of them in the context of the band's new journey, and of Emily constantly being compared to Chester (there are already a lot of "fans" who wanted them to just get a Chester sound-alike instead of moving forward; some even saying they shouldn't use the LP name without Chester, which is dumb AF on multiple levels). Got me teary.
Brad was there in the Apple Music interview on the official LP channel and he's also performing on the album. He might not join the tour.

When she first hit that "Crawling" chorus it was like damn bnear hearing chester , she sounded SO much like him holy fuck , that gave me goosebumps
